Uru: Ages Beyond Myst is a puzzle-adventure game
which takes place on special worlds known as Ages.
Uru's gameplay can be viewed from first- and
third-person perspectives, a presentation
different from other Myst titles. Players navigate
Ages in third-person, with the first-person option
available for closer inspection of clues and
objects. Uru has no item inventory and players
cannot pick objects up;puzzle items must be pushed
or kicked into place. The onscreen interface is
minimal; there are no health meters, maps, or
compasses to distract from exploration.
Players begin Uru's story in New Mexico by the
Cleft, a deep fissure in the ground that leads to
the D'ni caverns. A man who introduces himself as
Zandi sits in front of his trailer by the Cleft,
encouraging you to discover the environment and to
"join the exploration". The player
stumbles across a hologram of a woman while
exploring. The woman, Yeesha, tells the player the
story of the D'ni and tasks the player with
finding seven journey cloths in an effort to
rebuild the civilization. The plot is unresolved
at the end of the single-player game; later
expansions and online content continue the game's
story.
