Although a later and slightly different offering from Counting Crows thantheir brilliant previous albums such as "August and Everything after" and"Recovering the Satellites", this stroke of genius does not fail toimpress. Many fans may feel this album is too "mainstream" but I have todisagree. This was the first Crows album that I bought, and I fell inlove with the band and now own every album they have produced. The lyricsare beautiful, Adam's voice is breathtaking and the whole album is afantastic combination of upbeat tracks and spine tingling mellow soundswhere you cannot prevent the hairs on the back of your neck from standingup. In my opinion, the absolute gems are "Black and Blue", "Holiday inSpain" and "Up all night" although there isn't a particular song out ofall 16 which I do not enjoy listening to. The bonus track "You ain'tgoing nowhere" is superb...this one track may swing the cynics who did notwarm to this album. Although I am clearly not the most well informed fan,nor have I been a fan since the early days, I am more than capable ofappreciating the pure class that Couting Crows produce, and this album isperfect for new listeners or more open minded fans who truly love the bandfor being who they are, even though it is not easy to define what that is.
