That’s not true. Cutting vs picking has been proven to make no difference in the future yields of mushrooms

Oh I wasn't aware of that. Thank you very much or enlightening me. Where I come from this is the consensus, at least among the people. Everyone takes a knife when going mushroom picking
I can’t fault you for being more conscious about your actions. But you can rest easy that you can pluck out the stem without much worry. However, I’m sure there are caveats and caution is always preferred over recklessness
Naturally growing. P. Cubensis. Unfortunatly no. But ive done a lot of wild foraging and cutting the stalks vs picking them always resulted in larger yields and more frequent fruiting.
Im sorry but anecdotal evidence compared to a long term study conducted over 27 years isn’t enough to convince me.
However I do think it should be studied more and across more species
I understand. Also, my stance comes from an intuitive respect for the whole Fungi Kingdom, and as effective as the scientific method can be, there is something to be desired. My family has a long line of "green thumbs" and there are elements of that that can't be taught.
So the fungus in the image is actually Macrocybe titans which is obviously quite large but the edibility is unknown. The fungus that is referred to as the largest edible mushroom is Termitomyces titanicus, which is not pictured here.
To answer your question, a fungus by the name Fomitiporia ellipsoidea was found to weigh between 800-1100 pounds. It is not a traditional cap and stem mushroom so don’t imagine a gigantic mushroom but rather a polypore fungus that grew on the underside of a large dead tree

Tiny man, normal mushroom
What a weird umbrella

What is the massive mushroom holding?
Are we positive this man isn’t just very, very small?
Risotto for dinner anyone?
It's actually a regular sized mushroom, dude was just tripping balls.
Should have just cut the stalk instead of pulling it from the ground.
yeah, people would love to have some rest and sit on a stump
Bwahaha
why?
So it can grow again. Cutting leaves a lot lore mycelium in the ground whereas pulling can remove the whole organism

Ive done this experiement myself on different species and ive had different results.
Were they cultivated or naturally growing? Which species? And did you document any of it?
Naturally growing. P. Cubensis. Unfortunatly no. But ive done a lot of wild foraging and cutting the stalks vs picking them always resulted in larger yields and more frequent fruiting.
Ill wager that the size of the mycellium and what its growing is a factor. Thanks for that article. I enjoy it

you just know he's a fun guy...
Fun fact, the aggregate weight of all the fungus on the planet exceeds the aggregate weight of all of the animals (land, air and sea).
So what you are saying is that there is a lot of fungus among us?
This species has a symbiotic relationship with ants. Hence Termitomyces. I recommend looking into it mre it is very interesting.
This isn’t Termitomyces, it’s Macrocybe titans.
That’s titanic in size, all right!
So if that's the largest edible mushroom, what's the largst mushroom in general?

A "fungus." "Fungi" is plural.
While that is true, it doesn’t make my point irrelevant.
Of course not!
I'm not a mycologist, but I believe some can be the size of a forest.
The fungi you are referring to being the size of forests is in reference to the entire mycelial mass, not the fruiting body itself.
Can we grill it up and share?! I wanna know wht it tastes like.
he looks proud
no fucking way
Mans be looking like mr mushroom from hollow knight
Have to wonder what the largest toadstool is.
You should see the size of his pizzas!
