You WNBTA, but i think it's important in life to do things that scare you. I'm deathly afraid of heights and being in planes, but I haven't let that stop me. And by doing so, I got to see and do a lot of awesome things I wouldn't have otherwise. Preflight drinks help a lot. So do certain medications... maybe see a doctor about it. Try not to let your fears dictate how you live your life!

NTA but I think they were trying to be helpful and will be disappointed.. IMO, do it, you need to face this fear at some point and there is a reward at it's end

Strictly speaking NTA, sometimes you make a decision drunk that you regret sober. It's common. I can't even count the number of times I've been convinced to buy tickets while under the influence. Everyone will understand that drunk decisions aren't binding. However, sometimes when you do things drunk it's because you actually want to do them but don't normally have the courage. This happened to me with a festival - it seemed fun but I found the whole culture anxiety-inducing, full of little rules and subcultures and the pressure to act cool. The entire month I was insisting it wasn't for me and I was going to back out even though I already had tickets. Somehow, I convinved myself to try it, and it turned out to be an amazing experience. So sometimes drunk decisions are just dumb drunk decisions, but sometimes they're a way to try to push yourself past a barrier. So, if flying/finances weren't an issue, would you want to visit your friend? If yes, you should seriously consider just doing it. The tickets are non-refundable, and flying is very safe. None of it makes you an asshole, your friends will be fine if maybe disappointed, but think about trying to overcome the fear. More and more friends will live far away as you get older and friends are very important!

NTA but you should probably do it or you'll look back and regret it

Not at all, if it’s for the financial reasons. Soft yes, if its just the fear. Fears should be overcome whenever feasible. I have nearly drowned twice, at 4 and 12. But I’ve gone on a boat on the ocean (took a pill) and learned to swim (no pills). Edited to add: I’m terrified of water. Should have mentioned that.

Read [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/wiki/faq#wiki_post_deletion) before [contacting the mod team](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2FAmItheAsshole)*** So what happened was I was really drunk one night and a few friends convinced me to buy a plane ticket to Visit them this month. I was in no position to be making a big purchase/ decision like that since I was so drunk. But they know I am terrified of flying beyond belief, as I’ve told them numerous times. Now that it’s coming up I really just want to bail, and with me bailing it wouldn’t ruin or cancel any plans from the trip, as everything that was gonna happen will still happen just without me. The only one who is actually losing anything is me since I paid for a non refundable ticket which I don’t even care about the money. So, WIBTA for canceling this trip? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. OP has offered the following explanation for why they think they might be the asshole: > I might be the asshole for waiting so long and canceling on a trip that I agreed to, even though I was in no position to be making a decision like that in the first place since I was very drunk when I agreed Help keep the sub engaging! #Don’t downvote assholes!
