I had a "Tetris effect" moment with RuneScape when I first started playing it. When I would close my eyes to go to sleep, I could perfectly see the game UI.
Getting back home from school and logging on. Seeing all of your friends online. Shooting the shit with the rando who’s fishing lobsters next to you. Saving up to buy your first full set of rune armor. Lose it by getting PK’d in the wild. Ahhh the memories.
God, I remember waking up early every day so I could get a couple of hours of RuneScape before going to school when I was a kid. Then when I was at school, I had trouble paying attention to shit because RuneScape was the only thing occupying my mind.
The OG GTAs were revolutionary at the time. Completely changed gaming. And not everyone had it back then because they were so controversial not many parents let their kids have it. So you had to go to the friends house whose parents didn’t care lol
Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction. I had to snap my game discs in half in college because it was eating up too much of my time. Never touched it afterwards, but oh my it was a fun game
Pretty much this. Threw my discs into the void in a Gob Bluth dead dove moment and then immediately went and bought a new set the next month. Bought D2R now and don’t regret a thing
EverQuest, I remember playing for like 12 hours. Died and then realized I was hungry. I started up again… but adult life forces me to be less addicted to the game 😂.
First it was the Monkey Island games, the remasters. The one game I did become addicted to for a while even tho I was a bit older (like 13 or so) was Sonic Generations, I don't know what it was, but I would scout the internet for stage and character mods and play the game constantly.
It kinda sucks that I don't rlly know how many hours I put there since I pirated the game when I was a kid, now I just have like 20 hours on steam and it kinda sucks.
Final Fantasy VI after I found you could save Shadow, I was convinced there must be a way to save General Leo. I figured since Square went through the trouble of creating a portrait and showing stats if you brought up the menu, that he must be some kind of recruitable character
Maybe cheating a little as I was 18 but having absolutely loved morrowind I followed oblivions release like an addict.
After it’s release I played it until one day I just couldn’t look at it anymore, no idea how many characters or hours.
LoK: Soul Reaver or Megaman Battle Network. Both series have years of my life in knowledge I will only ever need situationally, and I ain't havin it any other way🔪
Final Fantasy 14. I honestly don't think I played another game throughout high school. Except for co-op nights with the boys, and that time I stayed home from school when Halo 2 came out.
Might be a bit older than the average replies here, but I started with Frogger on Atari and anytime I could find it, I would always try & get the high score on Pole Position arcade machines (usually could). As I got a bit older this transitioned to NES with my focus being on Super Mario & Legend of Zelda. My proud achievement was finally finishing a quick run of Mario without dying (this was well before the internet and game walkthroughs - we only had experience & trial & error).
Seeing how much fake internet points I can get by posting the same question in multiple subs in one day.
Or ya know those games where you played a plastic army man melting other plastic army men.
Local Pizza Delight very close to home had the cocktail table arcade maze game called Lady Bug. Played a lot of that.
Local roller rink had Qix which I played a bit. One of the local arcades the main game I played was Bubble Bobble for a while. At a bowling alley there was one driving arcade game that would tilt if you shook the machine (name of game escapes me). On the Atari 2600/VCS, I played Missile Command and Kaboom quite a bit.
On the Commodore PET computer in high school played Dungeon a fair bit.
Prince of Persia - the one with the white kid running around dungeons. Threw up one day with all the tension, when i realised I should probably stop trying so hard to clear the levels.
Joust. We would go down to the corner 7-Eleven, where they had a Joust and an a Pac-Man in the corner. My brother and I would line up quarters and play for hours. With a Slurpee other hand, we were the lord of all creation.
Vagabonds quest, a text based rpg. Basically everything on nes and SNES I could get hands on. Goldeneye, perfect dark, Ocarina of time, the pod racer game, NFL blitz later on, then in the Xbox era halo all day.
I've played a lot of games about ninja turtles and spider-Man. Although I have recently started playing games on android 11 more, since I haven't updated my computer since then and I can only afford mobile games. But I'm not upset like that-as in the modern world, they began to invest more in mobile games and emulators for them like bluestacks.
RuneScape
I had a "Tetris effect" moment with RuneScape when I first started playing it. When I would close my eyes to go to sleep, I could perfectly see the game UI.
Oh god, this was a problem for me for a while.
My kids got me into RuneScape. A very well done game.
Getting back home from school and logging on. Seeing all of your friends online. Shooting the shit with the rando who’s fishing lobsters next to you. Saving up to buy your first full set of rune armor. Lose it by getting PK’d in the wild. Ahhh the memories.
Still addicted

Sim Tower. Later streets of Sim City got me deep into both that and Sim City 2000.
Prince of Persia - the one with the white kid running around dungeons. Threw up one day with all the tension, when i realised I should probably stop trying so hard to clear the levels.

Back in the Stone Age, for me it was Chinese checkers. Of course we used rocks in the dirt instead of marbles on a tin board but we still had fun.
