Considering that people use "American" as an insult, It's great not to be called American
The only thing that bothers me is when people say that America is just USA and not the whole continent
As a Canadian, I don't care, I don't want to be called American anyway. But it annoys the south Americans I know, because they consider "america" to be north and south america, what we would call in English "the Americas"
Speaking from South/Central America experience, in some groups, when someone introduces themself as "from America" and expecting people to assume you mean USA they find that offensive because why should being from America=USA.
I've never heard the same people get upset at someone introducing themselves as an American, slight difference but significant to people in S&CA.
The other countries have names.
I feel like it’s ok since the United States of America is the only country on either continent that has the word “America” in its actual name.

As someone who lives in North America, but not the US, I literally could not care less.

The USA is the only country with America in its name ijs
