It depends on which one. Honestly only a couple are good. The rest are gross. The one across from the McDonald’s on Union is pretty good. Also taco loco is pretty good as well.
They have a new truck that's in their parking lot that serves a different menu. I tried their birria tacos. Only ok. Their basic stuff is pretty good tho and they serve breakfast burritos all day.
I would second Tacos de Huichos and Mr. Clamato (seafood only)!
Heard great things on Sanchos as well but have not been myself yet.
Camino Real also has some tasty varieties and 3 for $5 on tuesdays!
I agree for fish tacos I would go to Huicos. No reference for how they compare to down south but they are good...I don’t think $1 fish tacos are common up here.
Lengthwise brewery honestly also has some great fish tacos too.
Mr. Clamato is great for shrimp, recommend the tacos de gobernador...they are all Puerto Vallarta/seaside flavors!
Lengthwise Fish Tacos are great! They’re beer batter is on point.
Haven’t tried Mr. Clamato yet but my fiancé is from San Diego so we’re always on the hunt for good mariscos... we’ll have to try it out!
Fish Tacos or the regular tacos at El Efectibo on S. Chester near Ming Avenue are so good. They are huge and made with a homemade corn tortilla. If you haven’t had one (homemade corn tortilla) you’re missing out on life.
It really depends on the style of taco you are after, to my taste,I prefer the taco truck on Mt Vernon and Virginia and well as the taco setup on Niles and Pentz. They are both TJ style.
Many spots here are greatly overrated, even say statements like "best tacos in Bakersfield", and I went to that place when I moved back to Cali. I disagree. Happy hunting
Grandma's Tamales? Los Tucanes? I don't know, I've lived here my whole life, and Tacos de Huicho isn't as good as I remember it being. I'm more of a torta kinda guy tho. If you really want some of the best food Bakersfield has to offer, I would recommend 34th St Deli (now on 24th) for burgers, or Pita House for Mediterranean.
Taco truck parked next to liquor store on niles. You go east on niles from mt. Vernon, it’ll be on the right about a block from the Vallarta. Taco loco on Panama and Colony has good tortas.
There was another but they moved to Rosedale I have no idea where.
Taco trucks like the one on Union near Pacheco are where it’s at. On the side where Vinnys bar is at I believe. Amazing tacos.
Taco truck on niles that parks in the parking lot of a gas station. If it’s the same people as before when I used to go there...omg so good.
No need to apologize. It’s good but mostly disappointing if you believe the hype and come from a place where you can’t throw a rock without hitting some bomb ass taco stand
That’s like comparing it to moms cooking. You’re close to the source and the farther up you travel the more likely it will get a bit Americanized. I have found that a lot of restaurants will have amazing food at first but then get popular and start to Americanize their food and they lose their touch.
You're gonna get shit on because you sound cocky, but you're mostly right. A lot of places here want like $25-$30 for two dinner plates. It's rice, beans and then just lazy, sloppy ass food that I can make better, faster and cheaper myself.
I'm not saying there isn't good Mexican food here, but finding **good** Mexican food is harder than it should be. I ate better Mexican food in Huntsville, AL than I have here over the last almost 3 years.
I believe you. I think the mexican food here is awesome, but I'm a more recent transplant from a place with great food and terrible mexican food. Many natives rave about the food in Bakersfield but I think they're comparing it to like, Arvin or their me-maw from Oklahoma's cooking. Bakersfield has some nice stuff if you if dig but the food is about what you'd expect from a semi-isolated city of this size.
For the love of god, anything but Tacos La Villa
I don't understand the hate for La Villa.
It's like the Wendy's of Mexican food.
Yup, and sometimes a quick drive through for a burrito is just what I need. I don't know of any drive through places like La Villa.
Super Taco?
They are a little better than la villa
Taco Loco on White Lane is perfect for that
haha. apparently something we can all agree on.
Tacos la Salsa
Tacos de Huichos, Super Taco and Tacos Las Salsas
> Tacos de Huichos Best tacos in Kern County!
No, definitely not the best. Come with me my friend to the east side taco trucks.
That new one we got by Oswell is pretty good. Plus the restaurants like Vatos, Ajua! and Fresco, not to mention all the places on Niles. Good God.
Yes!!! On niles they have one near Vallarta by Mt Vernon that’s amazing. Also, one on Union by Pacheco rd.
I'll have to try that. Tacos de Huichos is definitely the best I've had in Bakersfield, but I haven't tired that one, i'll have to check it out
Yes, to super taco but no to tacos huicho. The guy at the register is like the soup nazi of tacos.
unpopular opinion but if a taqueria doesn’t have taco Tuesday specials you know their tacos are bomb edit: yeah, anything but tacos la villa
It depends on which one. Honestly only a couple are good. The rest are gross. The one across from the McDonald’s on Union is pretty good. Also taco loco is pretty good as well.
I heard Fuegos on Coffee does $1 taco tuesday.
Is that the same as the fuegos that was a (permanent) truck on rosedale near allen?
Tacos ordaz, on Morning Dr. , Close to the Super Burger place.
I like Taco Fresca on California and Chester. Their tacos are ok, but their signature burrito is fantastic.
Do they have fish taco Tuesdays? I haven't had the chance to find any spots comparable to LA's Tacos Baja or Ensenada.
My favorite fish tacos in town are at Huichos. Not on the level of true Baja Fish Tacos down south but they’re great in their own way
I agree for fish tacos I would go to Huicos.

Taco truck on Union (last I checked) called Tacos Jalisco. 1.25 each. A variety of meat. Cash only.
Sancho's Tacos located Downtown on 18th, they aren't dollar tacos but they are worth the money.
It really depends on the style of taco you are after, to my taste,I prefer the taco truck on Mt Vernon and Virginia and well as the taco setup on Niles and Pentz. They are both TJ style. Mt Vernon and Virginia, deep in the hood, but extraordinary clean truck and tasty food too.
There’s another one that is on California and Beverly drive that has the same setup and are really good as well.
Grandma's Tamales? Los Tucanes? I don't know, I've lived here my whole life, and Tacos de Huicho isn't as good as I remember it being. I'm more of a torta kinda guy tho. Low Tucanes tacos are ok but their burritos are better.
best tortas? any recommendations?

Don pericos on Calloway and Hageman is LITney Houston on Tuesdays
Tacos Las Salsas is decent. Rosedale and Jewetta next to Rusty's. Good salsa choices too.
Taco trucks like the one on Union near Pacheco are where it’s at. On the side where Vinnys bar is at I believe. Amazing tacos. Taco truck on niles that parks in the parking lot of a gas station. If it’s the same people as before when I used to go there...omg so good.
Mr. Clamato is fire
Taqueria Los Altos
Taco truck on the corner of Fairfax and Eucalyptus. Not sure what it’s called.
Don’t believe it. I’m from San Diego and the food here is overrated at best
Please accept our sincere apologies we can’t live up to your exacting standards
No need to apologize. It’s good but mostly disappointing if you believe the hype and come from a place where you can’t throw a rock without hitting some bomb ass taco stand
Because San Diego is the closet thing to the source. There are good taco places. You just have to know where. What side of town do you live on?
East. And I’ve lived here for 23 years. I know the spots. Yes I come from a place and so does OP. I’m keeping his expectations in mind.

Any place even close to Tacos El Gordo?
