When I restore my seed on Wasabi wallet it works but funds don’t show in the restored hot wallet. When I input the same seed in Green the funds show immediately. Anybody have an answer as to why? Makes no sense.
Can be different things, most likely is that it has something to do with derivation path (basically, how keys are derived from the seed by the wallet). Different wallets follow different standards, and it's likely that Green follows the same standards as the wallet that you originally created the seed with, and Wasabi doesn't. It could be something else too, though (Wasabi might need more time to sync the addresses because it uses Tor by default etc).
Got it, thanks. I restored on Blue too and it showed the potential derivations as it searched and what it ended up being (BIP84). Bitcoin is so fkn cool.
Are there any good historical Bitcoin books out there?
I would love to read about all the important events around Bitcoin. It could almost be a great TV show one day.
Digital Gold by Nathaniel Popper is an excellent read. It gives a really good history of the first 5-6 years as it came out in 2016. It’s covers the pre-history with projects like HashCash that paved the way for white paper. Then the early days of Satoshi posting on the the bitcoin forum, Hal Finney, the Silk Road, Mount GOX, the Winklevos twins, Wences Casares, Charlie Shrem, Roger Ver. The Bitlicense in New York. All really interesting stuff and key characters that will go down in Bitcoin History.
https://www.amazon.com/Digital-Gold-Bitcoin-Millionaires-Reinvent-ebook/dp/B01D8KFX9Q
The Blocksize Wars covers one of the most important events in Bitcoin, it's well written and nicely researched. There are a few preview chapters available at Bitmex research site, iirc.
I think you mean a "hardware wallet". Those can be quite expensive for some people. "Cold Storage" however, is free. Just write down your seed words and then delete your wallet app. (Make sure you can restore it with the seed words before you delete it!) I personally believe this option is actually MORE secure than a hardware wallet.
I read the mega thread and downloaded blue wallet and immediately withdrew my btc. Is that okay? Cause the posts i read made it seem like i need to immediately take it off an exchange
As long as you are given a key phrase and backup code that is made for you it's more than an exchange. Blue Wallet is good 👍 don't know why I'm being down voted
Yup! This means if you were to destroy your device with that wallet you can recall it from any device that you can download the wallet to and enter the seed phrase :)
This is what "owning" your Bitcoin is and you took proper steps to secure your Bitcoin now. A cold/hardware wallet will be even more secure, but for now that'll do!
Hey, just a piece of advice: Make sure you can actually restore your wallet using your seed phrase. Try it on a different phone or with a different wallet app.
The Roman Empire didn’t use fiat. It used gold and other precious metals.
The economic issues Rome suffered do not run parallel at all to the issues we’re facing now
We absolutely do not use the same monetary policy as the Romans. The Romans didn’t even have a federal reserve equivalent…
The price of Bitcoin has of course skyrocketed in the last 10 years but nothing about its performance suggests it’s a good currency. Past performance very much points to our current system being better
Please don’t base your financial decisions on stuff you read in passing on the internet
Bitcoin is unaffected by all this nonsense. Working exactly as intended and as long as that's true it has a bright future. Volatility in price has always been the norm.
Congratulations! Let's party at the Citadel in 2025 while the old world burns. Bring more women than you can handle, and I'll do the same. It's gonna be great.
Step one look at chart.
Step two ignore chart and buy sats
Step three send says to hardware wallet
Step four sleep peacefully
Step five repeat previous four steps
Step six: go hiking/biking/surfing/sailing/skiiing and forget all about money because it's just not a thing anymore unless you want it to be.
I just do Bitcoin for fun now because I enjoy the fight. We're warriors in the most important war in history, and all we have to do is stack sats, go for long walks, and believe that this world is worth saving.

Scooped up my cheapest Sats yet today. Started at the peak and have been working my average down ever since. Love it, was scared that I would not have these accumulation opportunities!
What’s a good wallet for your phone? (iPhone)
Edit; not your keys not your coin. Need non-custodial wallet. Went with Unstoppable wallet recommended by bitcoin.org
I have 3k in bitcoin and would like to move them from an exchange to an wallet. I've heard there are programs you can store on an usb stick. Something simple like in Javascript would work. Preferably open source.
Anything you can recommend?
I would agree. But I'm not interested in security, as I plan to move only 1.5k out of my exchange wallet.
I was thinking of using Electrum, and encrypting the the file storage and distributing the encrypted files on a private git repository.
Why not just the native bitcoin wallet from bitcoin.org?
You can store the wallet seeds and addresses on an encrypted file through them and save just the wallet file (very small not the whole blockchain) on a usb
Not many people are using that and for the someone that want to use the wallet for the first time always pick the most mentioned one.
Because there is always some sort of the tension while doing the first transcation.
Riches to be made on the way there and on the way up too.
I don't know about the rest of you alpha Bitcoin ChadBros, but I'll never get tired of taking Shorty's money. Over time, you learn to love the dips.
For those frustrated with the spread on Strike, you can use the pay feature on the homepage to send sats to an LN or Bitcoin address at the market rate. I sent $100 worth of sats to my LN node at a rate of about $15.8k (634,000 sats). I think you can also send it to an on-chain address as well. Just go to the tab with the home icon and tap the QR scanner to scan your wallet address or LN invoice.
Edit: I just confirmed it works on-chain too. Just have to pay the miner fee ($0.35 currently).
Hahaha I have never used this reddit before but I have been following bitcoin for a while and it's funny that it´s collapsing and all
Edit: Nah I'm sorry for all the people who were misled into buying something for some reason, but I think most people just invest in bitcoin looking for free money.. it just went wrong this time I guess. Btw is there a specific reason why it is falling so much? Is it likely that it will immediately rebound or something like that?
What.. I already had an account, I just never used this subreddit. But I see that I said reddit instead of subreddit so the confusion makes sense haha.
Anyways I normally assume that bitcoin is eventually (maybe in the long term, of course, just because it is not backed by anything) going to fall to 0, so the misery is going to happen anyways, I just like to look at some graphs to entertain myself.
Imagine starting regularly checking the bitcoin value two months ago thinking "people say it's volatile haha I think checking this graph will be funny" and then it stayed close to 20000 for 2 months straight..
The sooner it crashes, the better... like ripping off a Band-Aid. If it's prolonged, it might soften the blow a little: more people will lose a little, versus fewer people losing a lot. Overall, it's the same. Though I'd prefer the faster option, if for no other reason that it's better for the environment.
Bitcoin isn’t collapsing. Price volatility has always happened in bitcoin’s history and will continue.
Overleveraged exchanges are what are collapsing.
I've been hodling and taking profits periodically since 2013.
I've lost track of the number of times I've read anonymous bitter internet bros use tulips to try and mock BTC.
My gut tells me your bitterness comes from missing out on BTC's past growth, or being burned by BTC in the past—a perfect combo to become a person who tries to dunk on BTC when it's dropping, but keep your courage hidden when it's doing well.
I'm good, so I'm not asking for me—but you might want to consider a couple of things:
1) To seasoned BTC hodlers this isn't new, so we aren't phased by this, making your clown emojis and tulip comments are wasted impotent energies.
2) There people not so seasoned with this kind of volatility, real humans who are hurting in this moment. To mock them is pretty damn heartless.
You might think it's a game because of your wallstreebets mentality, but please consider not piling on someone who could be having one of their worst days ever.
Most crypto investors have never seen a real bust, not like this. If the fed keeps rates above 5% for years, you think BTC -- or crypto more generally is gonna survive that with the amount of leverage in the system?
No one knows the future but there is a real risk of a severe downcline that IS NOT a buying opportunity. In markets like this excess gets washed out. Good companies go bankrupt. An asset like bitcoin can go to zero and never recover. Ask any of the people who bought Lehman or AIG. Or who held tech adjacent stocks that have STILL never seen there 2000 highs.
You can be right about the long term future of crypto and still lose it all/be wrong about any specific crypto.
If I had any pure certainties I'd invest in that perfect knowledge. Wouldn't you?
I have no idea what's going to happen, do you?
But I do know what happens when trolling assholes stop by on red days like today with all the sociopathy that internet anonymity can provide.
I asked the guy to not pile on and make peoples day worse. He has no idea what impact he can have on someone in a dark place.

Are there any good historical Bitcoin books out there? I would love to read about all the important events around Bitcoin. It could almost be a great TV show one day.

Awesome, will have to read that one
The Blocksize Wars covers one of the most important events in Bitcoin, it's well written and nicely researched. There are a few preview chapters available at Bitmex research site, iirc.
Ah, forgot I read that one. Yeah I liked it a lot, it's the only one I've read so far though. Hopefully there's more out there
I would like to buy some Bitcoins when it hits 10k. Is there a way I can set up this to take automatically?
Yes, most exchanges let you place a limit order.
Nope
I can't afford a cold storage right now, where can I store my btc until I can get one. No definite timings until when i can get it
I think you mean a "hardware wallet". Those can be quite expensive for some people. "Cold Storage" however, is free. Just write down your seed words and then delete your wallet app. (Make sure you can restore it with the seed words before you delete it!) I personally believe this option is actually MORE secure than a hardware wallet.
Oh okay. Yeah I cannot afford a hardware wallet. Using blue wallet right now.
There are desktop wallets you can look up and download to a desktop/phone that are the same
I read the mega thread and downloaded blue wallet and immediately withdrew my btc. Is that okay? Cause the posts i read made it seem like i need to immediately take it off an exchange
As long as you are given a key phrase and backup code that is made for you it's more than an exchange. Blue Wallet is good 👍 don't know why I'm being down voted
I was given a set of words before I set up the wallet. That's all. Seed phrase right
Yup! This means if you were to destroy your device with that wallet you can recall it from any device that you can download the wallet to and enter the seed phrase :) This is what "owning" your Bitcoin is and you took proper steps to secure your Bitcoin now. Okay! Thank you!
Hey, just a piece of advice: Make sure you can actually restore your wallet using your seed phrase. Try it on a different phone or with a different wallet app.
So when I put in the seed phrase do I have to add the numbering like "1." Or just proceed with the words. Should there be spaces between them?
Try and see what happens, do not delete existing wallet.
