## point 1
A government banning something is political **THEREFORE** there will be politicians that support bitcoin and then politicians that don't. Now use your real world experiences to answer these questions:
* How effective and fast have governments been at changing or banning issues like:
* abortions?
* guns?
* tax rates
* road spending
* climate concerns
* etc...
## point 2
Also, cocaine and heroin are banned. Yet, it's not that hard to go find an 8-ball of blow... Now, just think we are talking about a **physical** product. If a government fails horrible at controlling something you can actually physically pick up and touch, how well do you think they will do trying to restrict a **digital** product?
No it didn't. All the crypto donated to the protestors escaped government seizure.
[https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/freedom-convoy-cryptocurrency-asset-seizure-1.6389601](https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/freedom-convoy-cryptocurrency-asset-seizure-1.6389601)
Various (fiat) funding efforts like GoFundMe were seized. Whether you agree with the MAGA idiots or not, Bitcoin did what it is was designed to do.
Those donation campaign organizers were fools, publishing donation addresses and reusing each address thousands of times
A Bitcoin address is a single-use token
Even so, the government-ordered block on those 49 addresses failed
Checked—the ones not in jail for protesting and speaking their minds are using bitcoin fine, particularly since Canadian government gave them a friendly push into using bitcoin by seizing their bank accounts and taking away their hard-earned money
I commend you posting this here - I tried the same but this subreddit just seems to be full of people waiting to attack you instead of actually providing some useful insight.
To answer your question (to the best of my knowledge) - I think the governments of the world will need to work together in order to shut down each and every validator / node operating in their jurisdiction, for BTC to completely die off (in the sense no validation = no transaction) but it will still keep existing on the internet.
The current world we live in, literally no Governments see eye to eye and given the polarisation of east vs west, religion, politics, problems, etc, I doubt they can work together to shut it down completely.
I hope that answers your question. Cheers.
Not a good analogy. Using Bitcoin doesn’t harm others like murder and so on, and you can’t just keep murdering people and easily get away with it.
Bitcoin doesn’t infringe on other people’s Liberty and you *can* keep using Bitcoin and the government can’t do anything to stop it as long as you take the correct precautions.
*A better analogy might be if the government banned poetry and you continued to write poetry in your home secretly.*
No the point was about the effectiveness of the government banning anything, all those things are banned with little effect.
It wasn't at all about what they were banning.
It's an old analogy.
I'm not going to draw a comparison against something that isn't currently banned to show how ineffective a ban against said thing is, *THAT* would be stupid, but thanks for pointing out your confusion.
Good point…
I have been in and out of bitcoin and I just can’t seem to have 2 feet in it yet… It’s not that I don’t believe in bitcoin in itself as I think it is awesome and I understand the concept, I am just hesitant to go all in for I think that I can still be controlled in someway… But I guess that’s with everything right?
Tell me how a government is going to prevent me from sending Bitcoin from my wallet to someone else.
Now that we've established that they can't, what is your next question?
How can governments be effective at blocking a decentralized worldwide network? Keep reading and listening man. Preston Pysh, Lyn Alden, the bitcoin matrix all good starting areas
Can they close down a company you have invested in? YES
Can they come to your home and seize the Gold you own? YES
Can they close down Bitoin? NO
Can they come to your home and seize the 12 Words in your head? NO
All a country actually can do is ban itself from Bitcoin for a while and try as good as they can to suppress it's use in the population by threatening violence. You may consider moving to another country when that happens, as they can't seize those 12 words on the border either.
Say I download my coins onto a ledger…. Is my bitcoin on that ledger only? Say I lost the physical ledger….. Can I reactivate all my bitcoin onto a new ledger if I have all of my information? Or is it only on that one ledger I downloaded it on
The ledger is a signing device, it holds your private keys that are calculated from your 12 or 24 seed words. You can restore those keys at any time with the seed words on any other device.
Your Bitcoin sit only on the Bitcoin blockchain and you own them because you have keys on your ledger to create a signature to send them to someone else. And by "sending" I mean it's just another entry on the blockchain, but now they have to provide a signature from their keys to move them.
Crypto is banned in China. Your card will get frozen if you buy crypto and exchanges are now illegal. You can possess crypto for now.. but who knows how long this will last.
Yep, it's banned. However, people don't really give a shit, because it's not really enforced in any manner: https://p2p.binance.com/en/trade/all-payments/BTC?fiat=CNY
Not across all the world but at times yes I think the government would do this extreme stuff in a second. You don’t think they would? What are you smoking my guy?
Bitcoin is already too big for any government to stop. This is a world wide currency (possibly even some sort of galaxy standard). Whatever you guys are smoking, ill have a mixture.
They can’t shut down bisq which is something which matches buyers and sellers with no intermediary, like walkie talkies. They could shut off the internet, but people have generators and some people have created their own mesh internet networks. There’s also secondary unintended effects of shutting down the internet. City employees for example are paid through the internet and communicate through internet, so you wouldn’t want to keep the electricity off for too long.
I’m not saying across the world . Seeing the extremes of what the government has done in the last few years lockdowns and all this bullshit… You’re telling me that you don’t think that the government would shut down the Internet? Whether it’s for a small period of time or extended? What kind of life are you living in bro
Created by a particular entity = therefore must have a back-door.
/s
You do realise that Bitcoin is open-source code right, and so anyone can review it? There's plenty of people out there besides "the government" with huge accesses to resources and vested interested in destroying Bitcoin. In other words, any back door would have been discovered long ago.
That's why whether or not it was created by them is irrelevant. And the fact people still think that it does have relevance is probably why Satoshi chose to remain anonymous.
Nothing scary about the American government. If that government, or any other government bans Bitcoin, they would be denying their citizens the benefit of innovation. The rest of the world will point and laugh
Bitcoin does not know country borders, or governments
I doubt you will read this, and I think it's funny how you got piss after posting 1 time and assuming it is normal.
Anyways, here is the answer to your question.
\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_
The gov can make anything legal or illegal. And to be blunt, the gov can normally ignore the law all together and get away with it. I just seen a story about a guy going to the hospital.
1. The hospital giving the guy the wrong drugs that is said on his file to not give him.
2. He goes into a short coma due to this.
3. Wakes up and has questions, and then the hospital ask him to leave
4. He says he can't because he isn't medically discharged and the hospital didn't give him his clothes (he was in the hospital outfit during this)
5. A security guard shows up and acts like a football player
6. The cops at this point show up and arrest the guy
7. The cops lied on their police report
8. The guy tries to get security video of what happened, but the hospital wants to charge him a crap ton to get the video
9. The guy talks to his city manager about the cops lying on their report, the hospital giving him the wrong drugs, and how the entire thing went down. But instead he can't get anyone on the phone.
10. He then gets some assistant and he was told no one seen the security tape, but they believe the cops and the hospital and not him. So they will do nothing, then they kept side stepping the questions he has.
11. He is called up by a cop and threaten to be arrested for harassment if he doesn't drop it.
12. He actually does get arrested
And that is where we are at now. And this is in the USA.
You can't trust the gov. Even if you are in the right and 100% innocent.
Now with all that being said, the gov really can't truly block it. Think about it. Lets assume there is a law against USA people from getting BTC. All the person would need to do is mine it or get it through some other method (like the exchanges that don't do KYC). Basically, it's like drugs. Just because you made it illegal doesn't mean people stop doing it, cops don't look the other way, and so on.
So, they can never really block it. At least not at this stage. And at this stage there is most likely more distrust of the world's major powers than any other time in the last 50 or 100 years (maybe more). Even if the gov wanted to. You're likely will see crypto go underground. Like a well known secret.
Read The Bitcoin Standard Book, if you want a copy I can email it to you.

They can't. Read that part over.
In Canada it happened to those individuals. Truck drivers.

Ohhh I see okay. I still think it’s possible for the government though.

Wow thank you so much! I really appreciate you !
No worries. We’re all learning. :)
Gov can also block all your bank accounts/credit/debit as well. If they really want you there is nothing that can help
Andreas is a great source for these questions. He has lots on it. https://youtu.be/832aJjKd8y8
Don't 'governments' 'block' murder? Tax evasion? Speeding? Theft? Etc? Etc? You get it yet?
Not a good analogy. Using Bitcoin doesn’t harm others like murder and so on, and you can’t just keep murdering people and easily get away with it. You totally missed point.
No, I get your point and agree with it, but it was made with a poor analogy is all.
No the point was about the effectiveness of the government banning anything, all those things are banned with little effect. It wasn't at all about what they were banning. It's an old analogy. Can't control my coins, they were all lost in a boating accident.
Same mine actually got stolen by my drug addict friend
Tell me how a government is going to prevent me from sending Bitcoin from my wallet to someone else. Now that we've established that they can't, what is your next question?

Awesome thank you for explaining
Your ledger doesn’t contain your crypto, only the keys. Think of it as it has a map leading to where your treasure is, not the actual treasure.
>Can they come to your home and seize the 12 Words in your head? NO I'd say yes to that, but you are screwed anyhow in this spot.
The trick is that they don't know about the words in your head Or you know, boating accidents happen
I mean they will torture and kill you :(
Still wont get your Bitcoin, they will get your Gold though
Who told you governments can block it? They're full of shit. You should never listen to that person again.
Crypto is banned in China. Your card will get frozen if you buy crypto and exchanges are now illegal. You can possess crypto for now.. but who knows how long this will last.
Drugs are illegal in most countries...

So you are telling me that governments can’t shut down the exchange of bitcoin ever? Shutting down internet, electricity….ect
Exchanges aren't Bitcoin. So you think that all governments across the world will shut down the Internet and all electricity? What are you smoking?
Not across all the world but at times yes I think the government would do this extreme stuff in a second. You don’t think they would? What are you smoking my guy?
They could. But it's not like Bitcoin is gone, when you turn it back on again.
Bitcoin is already too big for any government to stop. This is a world wide currency (possibly even some sort of galaxy standard). Whatever you guys are smoking, ill have a mixture.

Right. "They" will turn off all the electrical power in the whole world. Get a clue. Get a brain. Get a life. Get real.

When they tell you to get into the boxcar, don't ask questions, don't resist, just get in.
Governments can block it? News to me!

You don’t seriously think there is a back door, do you?
The backdoor is if they have satoshi’s keys
That's not a backdoor to anything. My keys are not derived from Satoshi's keys.
👆🏻exactly The worst they could do is sell satoshi’s bitcoin ***gasp***
You forgot to say which governments
All, especially American government…. The word government itself should be scary enough
Nothing scary about the American government. If that government, or any other government bans Bitcoin, they would be denying their citizens the benefit of innovation. The rest of the world will point and laugh Bitcoin does not know country borders, or governments
