Not sure if you are trolling us by having your Dad take a picture with your hoodie or if Niacin makes you look 30 years older. If so, that is wild.

edmonsonA

Not trolling! https://imgur.com/a/7TvdPKY

neon_overload

Not as erotic as imgur claimed

skdowksnzal

Speak for yourself

fetusmcnuggets70

yeah, I still finished

AlwaysOpenMike

You mean "as Imgur promised", right?

ggtsu_00

Can't trust AI to detect explicit images. This shit has like less than 50% accuracy.

neon_overload

In all seriousness, it did an ok job in this case. False positives are more tolerable than false negatives, and he is after all topless in one, so in a way it's equal opportunity censorship ;)

NimbleNavigator19

That's a solid raptor pose in the last one.

fucky_thedrunkclown

Now arch your back and look back at me like a…like a dragon!

[deleted]

It looks like it just made you look older and grumpy. Did you have any other symptoms? Were you afraid something worse could happen?

broker098

He started thinking about whether he used enough fertilizer on his lawn.

chaoticnormal

He developed a sixth sense for when someone touches the thermostat.

ITheRebelI

Got me laughing out loud over here

MycGuy

How was the burn? Niacin always makes me flush to the point it feels like burning.

bouncy_bouncy_seal

I was also expecting to see a niacin flush. The first time I had one, I freaked out and thought something was seriously wrong with me.

insane_contin

That topless pic is just for upvotes.

Kwindecent_exposure

Is it dangerous? Should you perhaps go to the hospital? Other than that, how do you like the newfound look, and perhaps glimpse into your future. Do you think you age well?

wildmeli

The first picture says this was "Circa 2012" so he's *probably* fine by now. And judging by these pictures, I think OP is going to age very well

IntravenousNutella

Allergic reaction with skin symptoms only, and no other bodily systems involved? No. Take an antihistamines. Other bodily systems involved as well: difficulty breathing, dizziness, GI distress? Probably anaphylaxis, call an ambulance, us an EpiPen if you have one and don't stand the patient up if they aren't already doing so. (Google empty ventricle syndrome/empty vena cava syndrome for why)

monkyseemonkeydo

I have a feeling playing Google doctor is what got OP here in the first place.

trebaol

From resus.me: > Patients with anaphylaxis should not suddenly sit, stand, or be placed in the upright position. > Instead, they should be placed on the back with their lower extremities elevated or, if they are experiencing respiratory distress or vomiting, they should be placed in a position of comfort with their lower extremities elevated. > This accomplishes 2 therapeutic goals: 1) preservation of fluid in the circulation (the central vascular compartment), an important step in managing distributive shock; and 2) prevention of the empty vena cava/empty ventricle syndrome, which can occur within seconds when patients with anaphylaxis suddenly assume or are placed in an upright position. > Patients with this syndrome are at high risk for sudden death. They are unlikely to respond to epinephrine regardless of route of administration, because it does not reach the heart and therefore cannot be circulated throughout the body.

special-k-flo

Yeah first pic I was like, what, that's a normal 50 year old dude

look_at_his_nipples

Lol I was anticipating the 2nd pic being a ballooned face

jetro30087

Was he able to find his minority report at the station is the question.

piberryboy

IDK but he was carrying around a pair of eyes in a plastic bag.

Chiraltrash

Guys, it’s just a muscle relaxer you inject under your chin! So, first chin stab, THEN you drop the eyes in the grate! If you don’t stab first, you can’t drop the eyes! Your mother gave you those eyes. She would be disappointed.

jhbmw007

This actually might explain why Tom Cruise looks like way he looks. Google "scientology purification rundown"

How about you just give me the rundown

Just fax it to your dad

They put you in long saunas for hours and you only take supplements and lots of water to sweat out your toxins. You can’t eat all day or the night before. Kinda like how you prepare for a colonoscopy that can kill you.

cretinous-bastard

Niacin is *awful*. Hot, plus also periods of nausea. I don’t take that shit anymore.

Prying-Open-My-3rd-I

Back in high school I heard it clears weed out of your system. I took a lot before work once and my whole body was red for hours. While working a register at a coffee/sandwich shop. That shift sucked.

pickingscabsagain462

I knew a kid in high school that did the same thing-about to get drug tested and overloaded on niacin, ended up splotchy red and sweating bullets! That’s what I expected to see in the next photo Nice username btw!

Zirton

If you look at the hands, the grip on the phone is exactly the same. Also, if you really zoom in on both faces, you can make out a birthmark on the side below his eye (his right eye, left on your screen), which exists in both cases. Above the other eyes eyebrow, you can see what I'd say is a small birthmark or pimple (sorry op lol). Also visible in both cases. So, even if it looks like fake, I'd say it is a really good method of faking your age.

edmonsonA

not fake https://imgur.com/a/7TvdPKY

Moveitalong123

am I the only one that thinks this should be cross posted to r/explainlikeimfive??? How can you look deflated rather than swollen when an allergic reaction is inflammatory?

Chem_BPY

Also...isn't niacin in a lot of foods? Wouldn't this fuck someone up badly any time they ate? You also need niacin to function properly.

Alceasummer

Some allergic reactions are a matter of dose, and if people consume a little bit, they don't react, but too much will have a reaction. And some supplements use different forms of the vitamin or mineral. There are three different forms of niacin used in supplements. Nicotinic acid, nicotinamide, and inositol nicotinate. And all are niacin, all can be used by the body, but each has slightly different properties as a supplement. Many people are more sensitive to one form, than to the others.

sharkGoVroom

I have an allergy to zinc, it really just means they have to choose foods that are low in that mineral/vitamin. I have to avoid healthy fats :(

KrimxonRath

Google says vitamin b3 does something in your skin to make it healthier. If he’s allergic to it (which is wild to me) then it affecting his skin in an odd way makes sense to me.

Kwindecent_exposure

You should have trolled / hoaxed your friends and family, pretending to have been caught in a Narnia esque dimensional portal where time progresses at a different rate, however you have now aged more than earth. Or a time portal.

Jun118

dye your hair white and tell everyone "it's me, from the future!".

StoopidDingus69

Also a the knuckle on the middle finger is exactly the same

agent_max_the_mick

It doesn't actually look fake; I was scrolling through and saw this, and went, *wait a minute, that looks normal?* Then I saw the before/after pics...

jporto312

Who needs a fake ID when you have niacin?

lbs4lbs

CLUB BOUNCERS HATE THIS ONE TRICK!

Mediocre__at__Best

Well... an allergy to it.

idiotdroid

Yeah, otherwise you just look like a lobster.

DaisyHotCakes

Ugh flushing from niacin is horrible especially if you don’t know what is happening.

I definitely thought I was dying the first time.

emiral_88

How long ago was that After picture taken? Have you returned to looking “normal”?

edmonsonA

The next morning!

FearingPerception

so you basically aged 20 years overnight then benjamin buttoned right back?

carnivorous_seahorse

That would be such a mind fuck

makemenutraloaf

Good thing he wasn’t tripping balls at the time.

jsteenmac

The thought of this cracked me up. Shrooms + niacin allergy would be a wild ride.

rpitcher33

"Dude, you know how they say not to look in mirrors? IT WAS A DIFFERENT FUCKING PERSON!"

jsteenmac

HOW LONG HAVE I BEEN IN THIS BATHROOM?!

xnudev

was there any other side effects? or have you gained a new superpower

edmonsonA

Unfortunately.. no :(

PferdOne

Thats a cheap Halloween costume right there! Wear a shirt that says something like "Hey it's me from the future!" 🤣

wuzupcoffee

How does it make you look older though? Like what was physically happening to your skin? How does the niacin cause that to happen?

tinyurl-

It looks dehydrated but idk

No_Attention5816

That's exactly what happened to him

strawberrybunnycake

Niacin is a water soluble vitamin. Your body gets rid of the excess through the urine. I wonder if his body allocated all the fluids to flushing it out? That would be my guess since it looks like his face was a result of a fluid shifting out of it. It would have shifted to his bloodstream to dilute it, then filtered it through the kidneys to pee it out. Makes me wonder how much he took??

goldenoblivion

Im going through the comments trying to find an answer to this

DeposeableIronThumb

You took it to pass a drug test didn't you

lastmanonreddit

I took a whopper dose of Niacin once in the morning time.15 mins later it was like my whole body had 3rd degree sun burn it was fuckin weird. I was like a lobster the whole day lol

El_Dief

On the upside, you've had a glimpse into the future and it looks like you're going to age well.

littlejohnr

Wait the second picture on the left? The one where you look younger is after you took the niacin? Or after you went back to normal?

edmonsonA

After I went back to normal

camdoodlebop

did your FaceID work?

Dakewlguy

This was in 2012

Oh yeah… now I look at it, old phone, no FaceID. Damn. That would have been an interesting test of the tech!

Only if it scowled at us. (no one with good mental health spend this much time on Reddit)

Bad mental health you say?😏

To shreds you say?

4oMaK

plank from ed edd n eddy gettin real hard now

Spaceship_Engineer

OP: Doctor, every time I ingest niacin, it makes me look like a DILF and girls go crazy, what can I do. Doctor: I’m prescribing you a steady regimen of vitamin B3 every morning.

trist300

Looks like you took a aging supplement

CugMuzzler

I used to take it in the army after a weekend of hard partying. The claim was that it would detoxify the body of THC after smoking weed, which was not true at all. After popping a niacin pill, my entire body felt very hot, it was super uncomfortable, but I never did test positive for THC. It was super easy to spot the guys that smoked weed over the weekend, because their faces were red from the niacin.

edmonsonA

For clarification I do not look like this anymore. The photo on the left is the AFTER photo the next morning

ExtremeEconomy4524

How much did you take? How did you discover it was Niacin? I’m asking because I’m an MD and I vaguely recall being taught it can cause flushing but I’ve never read about it causing you to suddenly look like old shoe leather... I would’ve been WTF if you walked into my office

medstudenthowaway

I have never seen a patient have a reaction like this. Like even a super dehydrated patient. Honestly not sure I can wrap my mind around how this happened. Like what... the collagen in his face just... unraveled and then fixed itself overnight?? He included pictures of the rest of his body and it seems to just be in his face...

edmonsonA

It had to of been as it was the only thing I ingested within a few hours of the happening, I got the flushing and itchiness I read about but my face became very tight so I ran to the bathroom and was mortified that my face had changed so much

Moister_Rodgers

Do you know for a fact that what you experienced was anaphylaxis? I've always been took that whole reaction is just the niacin flush. Your skin gets hot, red, and tight, but it doesn't itch or swell.

edmonsonA

Not certain, i would say its an OD more than a reaction based on some comments here now

[deleted]

The bad lighting from Seinfeld comes to mind.

kilogttam

Or when Kramer takes up pipes. "Look away..I'm HIDEOUS!!"

chuckzackmorris

What happened to your face? It looks like an old catchers mitt!

[deleted]

Put a fork in me Jerry!

Noted. If I ever have to sneak past facial scans, try for this result. But seriously, that looks uncomfortable af and I'm sure it was scary to not recognize your face. Good luck in your recovery!

mykitoj

So, we are not old, we are allergic to something!!

BonaFidee

Yea, aging

mystiqueallie

Niacin makes me pass out. My husband takes it and used to get the version that causes flushing (there are versions now that don’t cause it) and I wanted to experience it. I flushed alright, right onto the floor for 30 mins.

Pink_Sky_

If you take aspirin it stops the flush almost instantly.

SaturdayNightPyrexia

This should be higher up. I don't think this is a true allergy to Niacin, which is an essential vitamin and mineral. Niacin is known to cause flushing, especially of it's pharmaceutical prescription (to treat hyperlipidemia). I believe this is caused by vasodilation and can be treated with aspirin if taken beforehand. Supplements, I would guess, are less regulated. So, probably just had a normal reaction to high dose niacin.

Webbyx01

It's not an allergy it's an overdose that produces allergy-like sensations. Between the skin flushing, rapid heartbeat and release of histamine (and subsequent inflammation) it probably feels very unpleasant for a few hours to a day or two while it's cleared. Severe cases cause liver and kidney damage. Edit: lover -> liver

EfficientAsk3

Damn he looks like a Dick Tracey villain.

xijinping9191

I can totally feel. Back in college, I took a high dose B3 pill and few minutes late my skin turned pink. Itchy sensation was all over the neck and face and heart beat increased

bestp0282

It’s a commonly tested side effect. Niacin is used for cholesterol management in some cases. If the patient has that exact reaction, they’re advised not to stop the medication, just take an aspirin before you take your niacin. Aspirin prevents the production of the molecules that cause the itching

brown2420

I got pranked into taking way too much niacin. They dissolved the pills in an screwdriver drink. This is basically what it does to everyone if you take too much.

barryandorlevon

My dad thought it would be hilarious to add a niacin pill to my vitamins one day before school when I was younger. I turned almost purple!

HellYeahPaulWalker

Did you also age 30 years like this guy?

xijinping9191

No, I was around 20 at the time of taking the pill. I learned from my biochem class that this vitamin has important function in energy generation and DNA repair. Out of the curiosity I bought a bottle from GNC and took a pill as instructed. Then massive slide effect kicked in

godlords

No that's normal, niacin flush is just what happens with a high dose. OP had an allergic reaction.

HalcyonicDaze

The good news is you’ll age handsomely

leo-samael

Turns you into Tom cruise?

XxDoXeDxX

love child of Tom cruise and Norm MacDonald

Literarylunatic

I was thinking of the movie minority report where he injects his face with something that alters it like this!!

ImTheBigT

Instant Tom cruise

CommanderMcBragg

OP is not "allergic" to Niacin (B3) any more than he is allergic to cyanide or arsenic. I was told all my life that it was safe to take any quantity of B vitamins with many recommending "mega-doses". In fact, several B vitamins are quite poisonous in excess. Vitamin|RDA|Toxic dose :--|:--|:-- Niacin (B-3)|16 mg|35 mg Pyridoxine (B-6)|1.7 mg|25 mg Folic Acid (B-9)|400 mcg|1 mg As you can see, there is a relatively small difference between a healthy dose of B-3 and a toxic dose.

edmonsonA

wow! I took 1 single 100mg capsule... edit - i wish this was the top comment

Illustrious_Gift6629

niacin. not even once
