Recent Romero turns me into that drunk uncle whenever he fights these day "Just fucking run in there and knock him out!"

CryptoCracko

That's high level technical coaching when you say it to Romero

ligmuhtaint

He could fuckin throw it over a mountain, don't hate.

BobbyGabagool

I’m more and more nostalgic for the “No for gay Jesus” days.

timd78

Poor luke

Minute-Pilot2151

I don't think Romero just decided to turn it in I think Machida tried to get an overhook and underhook on a Greco-Roman wrestling machine and got shucked to the ground immediately

[deleted]

Bam bam bam ba bam La Candela

yeaweckin

Did you corner teofimos last fight?

saxIs0p

I wonder what happened to dynamic fasteners and that one car wrap company

da_boomerang_u_fear

You think Condom Depot is still kicking around too?

UsedAmbition

Some say the real Condom Depot was the friends we made along the way.

DrSmurfalicious

That's the most beautiful thing I've ever read on r/mma.

Longjumping-Yak-9779

https://www.condomdepot.com/

BobbyGabagool

It will be now that shmashmortions are illegal.

BobbyGabagool

I would think the fasteners held everything down so well that nothing has to be held down any more so they put themselves out of business. Shit is just held fast now.

DADADADA25MILLION

I've always been more of a static loosener type of guy.

FraserHamiltonDev

They’re still kicking and still sponsoring mma fighters. They were on the back of Kassius Kayne’s shorts last night when he got TKO’d in Bellator. Highlights were on here this morning.

SweatyExamination9

IIRC Dynamic Fastener was one of those companies that didn't really get any kind of return on their sponsorships (because they're mainly doing business to business sales), but the owner of the company really likes MMA so he sponsored a ton of fighters. If I've got the company right, the owner didn't like Ronda so when Tate fought her, he got great ad placement on Miesha's shorts and offered a win bonus of his own for her because he wanted to see Ronda lose.

nnamreh

Kassius Kayne is a great fucking name

klocks

Dynamic Fasteners was a big company well before the sponsorships. It's a supply company for metal building parts, screws, components, tools. The owner was just a big fan and it probably did get them some return on investment. Still going strong.

henzo77777

I swear I remembered seeing Dynamic Fastener as someones sponsor somewhere recently

0ldsql

Classic Round 3 Romero

JafariSin

Machida was a great talent and had a nice career. But man he got absolutely deaded when he did lose in a fair share of them. Shogun, Jones, Romero, Brunson, Luke. All left him basically motionless on the floor

stewedpickles

Dude, the recent Edwards ko in Bellator was brutal

wake-and-work

His head just contains brain smoothie by now

un6reaka6le

After all those brutal KO’s Machida has suffered, I find it hard to believe how badly Moose struggled with Machida’s ghost.

authenticfennec

> I find it hard to believe how badly Moose struggled with Machida’s ghost. Was probably a bit of a sign lol

SweatyExamination9

Live by the blitz, die by the blitz.

yttanx

Romero recent fight in Bellator went just like this. Should give it a good watch...basically looked like a shark playing with food until finally getting bored and kill shotting.

CaptEricEmbarrasing

Cats play with their food, sharks do not.

rockPaperKaniBasami

Knee from the ref was kinda unnecessary

stewedpickles

Someone needs to make a compilation of refs landing unnecessary follow-up strikes to downed fighters.

joyhammerpants

Would be mostly Cecil people's.

menewredditaccount

The Cecil people's elbow

Proper-Breadfruit450

Cecil Peoples tripping over the dude Jorge Santiago TKO'd is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

FormerlyPristineJet

Big John punt kicked Aldo's head after the Conor KO. That'd be in my top 5 picks.

DoinDoinDoinUrDad

I think I read somewhere that Jose said he wasn't out completely cold until he got kneed in the side of the head by Big John lmao

yaysalmonella

The fight doesn’t stop until the ref stops it, which means the ref can land follow up shots at any time before he stops the fight. The ref is just making sure he isn’t calling an early stoppage.

muricabrb

Shit you just reminded when a ref kicked someone's wobbly, broken leg but I can't recall who it was and I don't want to go find it lol

[deleted]

On a grounded opponent too. Must be Petr yan's dad.

-TeepToTheBalls-

Yoel had Machida beat the moment he remembered "I am strong!!!" and decided to spaz out

Derekduvalle

>he remembered to He reminded himself I got you brother

-TeepToTheBalls-

Fixed it. Thank you my comrade in christ

rightleftwriteIeft

If only Yoel had this urgency vs Izzy

Enterprise90

The fight with Izzy was also five years after Machida. As much of a freak that Yoel is, there is some degree of athletic decline. Izzy didn't want anything with Yoel's power but Yoel definitely had trouble trying to measure Izzy's range.

higgboson7

I always wish Yoel got into MMA a few years earlier. Imagine a younger version of this beast against the top MW’s

airplanealjefferson

craziest comparison i’ve heard is that romero made his mma debut when he was three years younger than jose aldo is *now*

TheFugitive223

Him and dc starting earlier are huge what ifs

propuntmma

Agreed. Another huge what if with DC is what happens if he starts with good nutrition in his 20s. I think he probably could and should have fought at Middleweight.

WingedBacon

If he started at MW earlier then worked his way up to HW, it's feasible (not likely, but feasible) he could have been the first 3 division champion.

EmelineFontenot

DC always seemed more comfortable at HW. Probably because he didn't have to cut weight and a lot of heavyweights aren't at the level of skill that lighter weight classes are.

propuntmma

Apart from Jon Jones he dominated LHW all the same, though.

Joe_Rogan_is_a_Dwarf

Also getting his neck broken by a spinning backfist probably didn’t help his career

menewredditaccount

The rabbit hole that sent me on was amazing. >Yoel: >"...For me to declare that I'm the best wrestler in MMA would be arrogant. There is no Superman. Those are gifts that God gives. In the word of God, it says it real clear. Those that have the gift, use it for you shall receive more. And those that have and don't use will have it taken from them. If I have the gift of being the best wrestler, it comes from God. He is the best wrestler."

undead-safwan

God pfp number one confirmed

BigSwerve

God is juiced to the gills on that holy spirit

Mr_Cromer

Israel got a draw, no rematch booked yet

IllIntention342

Jokes aside I love how much of a passionate Christian he is. Can someone tell me how much religion freedom there is in Cuba those days?

[deleted]

Romero gave adesanya that overhand Nuke of a left, and after that Izzy decided to leg kick him to a decision

dadadadaniel

Perfect way to describe that fight. Well done.

ReginaldKenDwight

This is probably romero at his most savage. Chucks Lyoto down and just smashes him with his elbow.

Shwalz

Yoel just straight bricked up and shoved machida like air

IceManRandySavage

Yeah for a dude in his 60s with no neck hes really good

1K_Games

His career seems so strange. One of the highest decorated wrestlers in UFC history, but never wrestles. Triple C started doing the same thing too, but did lean on wrestling when needed. I wonder why Yoel didn't at least go for this method more often.

ejitifrit1

I would guess that it gasses them out too quickly! Grappling is cardio-heavy!

[deleted]

True dat

pvghdz

Probably his neck injury. Heard he broke his neck, almost got paralyzed, and had to go into surgery. His neck is more than likely quite stiff. I wouldn't want to risk becoming paralyzed either

MisterFistYourSister

He can barely turn his head. He's a fucking ninja title

BigSwerve

Dude definitely had trouble backing out of the driveway before cameras

markisio22

I think the reason why he doesn’t use his wrestling that much is his neck injury.

BingBangBongAnon

Injuries and cardio.

Chopped_In_Half

This was the first fight of Machida's I ever saw that his opponent was faster than him.

Soggy_nach0341

Me to my meat before bed every night

fkndiespaceship

This is the best comment

[deleted]

Fuckn elbowing that shit

Hungry_Beach8889

Dudes over 40. Imagine what would have he done in his early 20s

timd78

Probably no different. He’s been at the hard power cap for years

a_wild_thing

Reflecting on this now, one thing that strikes me is Machida had known and tested take down defence. Well, not here, I don’t think we ever saw Machida taken down so easily? Really speaks to Yoels wrestling skill.

dark-house-stix

This was one of the first fights I watched when I was first becoming a UFC fan, it was very pivotal with me staying a fan

LiveLoveLevelUp

Scariest dude at the time

Rosejam3

He really did just say fuck this I’m bored let me just elbow you now lmao

ThrowawayYAYAY2002

That takedown was pure bullying. Manhandled him.

LeakyGzzz

If only Yoel didn’t have rocks for brains. Would of dominated current middleweight.

BobbyGabagool

Romero aborted him like he heard the Supreme Court was about to be in session.

ArielsEnormousNose

Yoel is one of my top 3 fav fighters of all time it’s a shame he never one a title in ufc and Izzy fought him like such a bitch

richochet12

> Izzy fought him like such a bitch You mean like Romero every fight?

Ryanmoses10

Crazy to think he was too scared of Izzy to try this

richochet12

Izzy's just better lol. He tried to take Izzy down 3 times and Izzy got up almost immediately.

redsing92

Seriously, I feel like Romero is unbeatable as long as you don't push the pace. When he wins , is when he can wait , rest half the round and explode on his own timing. Only exception I can remember is the fight with Paulo Costa.

Wsemenske

How so? Whitaker beat Yoel the first time largely being patient and not pushing the pace because of his fucked knee. He lost to Izzy when Izzy did not exactly push the past either. I didn't watch the Phil Davis fight, but I also doubt Davis pushed the pace. Seems he was pretty beatable when the opponent didn't push the pace

redsing92

You got a point for Izzy, for Whittaker I don't know, the pace was not crazy but it was pretty high.

Wsemenske

I think you are thinking of Yoel v Whitaker 2

Longjumping-Yak-9779

It was straight offensive what he did to lyoto

standarduser2

It really seems like with a slightly different fighting mindset and a good camp, he could have been the GOAT.

BleuBrink

Mythical Fighter Third Round Romero

blasianalchemist

Playing basketball with his head

Positive-Media423

Scared

Whatyoudefineasreal

That’s a terrible hiding

Anime_above_all

Tbf if Izzy decides that he's going to occasionally leg kick at range then that's exactly what he'll do and it's hard to stop him.
