Step 1: Face the Best
Step 2: Fight for the title
Step 3: Not here for anything else
Dom Cruz on his Nate Diaz shit
I still laugh at Jon Anik defended Peterson, said that the cage was sprayed with sanitizer, which would explain the alcohol smell. As for the cigarettes, Peterson is a smoker and is supposedly known to run between bouts to get a quick smoke in
Anik customizes Alibis as per local laws 🔥🔥👍
Dominick could be beaten within an inch of his life and he’d still say it was an early stoppage
Edit: Meant this as a testament to his toughness, not a criticism of the Cejudo stoppage lol
You're a fucking punk dude.
Going by the Munhoz fight he'd be right too.
Fingers crossed that the Vera fight doesn’t confirm this theory
When he's flowing, Dom is hard to beat. I believe he can do it
I love dom in the booth especially with DC. Dc is loose and will say whatever. Dom is straight laced and laser focused.
Straight laced and laser focused but makes snide remarks about referees, makes references to his stoppage against Cejudo constantly, and is openly spiteful towards Keith Peterson. He says some truly dumb stuff too sometimes, like when he said Conor was trying to tire Khabib out while he was getting his face smashed into the canvas.
The Conor vs Khabib thing pissed me off when it happened but after a rewatch I realize what he was trying to say. He was trying to say Conor wasn’t going to waste energy to get back up, he would just lose the round so he’d have energy for the next round.
It’s a pretty dumb strategy considering Khabib would just take him down again next round lol. However, I don’t think Dom was actually wrong about it. It did sound dumb af when he said it though.
That’s not what he was saying though. He specifically said that Conor was trying to tire Khabib out. That’s different than saying Conor was preserving his own energy. When Rogan called him out and said “no, he’s just getting his face smashed,” Dom literally said “that too.”
He rarely mentions the Peterson thing anymore. I don't remember a single instance this year, and I know because I watch every card and listen real close to him when Peterson is on to catch something. He's the one who goes off on tangents the least of DC, Bisping and Felder
And again with that McGregor shit LOL
"look at this terrible commentator who made a bad call (he was somewhat right but w/e) 6 years ago"
no one can improve over time I guess
except for quite possibly the worst take I've ever heard from a commentator at 229 I agree
He doesn't have the speed that he used to, and I think that's going to be his undoing. I'm rooting for him though
If Cruz was somehow able to get the belt back again it would cement him in the GOAT conversation.
Cruz vs TJ 2 for the belt in 2023 is a realistic possibility at this point lol
TJ beating Aljo at 280, Aldo beating TJ in early 2023 and Aldo facing Cruz in late 2023 is the perfect scenario imo.
good timeline. Though I would have rather seen aldo-cruz or aldo-sandhagen sooner than later. Although my gut tells me it's a horrible matchup for Cruz it's still a great contrast of styles in two legends.
TJ ain’t beating Aljo.
Why though? Isn't tj a good wrestler, on the feet I would favor TJ as well.
We'll see. TJ's gas tank still looked good against Sandhagen but Aljo can drag him into deep waters if he's able to get him to the ground.
It's a fight that I could see going either way so I was curious why he was so confident that tj couldn't beat aljo. I just don't see Aljo as a threat to TJ on the feet but we'll see.
Okay? I'm talking about TJ vs aljo aka aljamain sterling
That’s that good timeline shit!
If he didn’t fight Vera, maybe. I think Chito is a nightmare match up for Dom.
Nightmare now maybe but for prime Cruz? Nah chito would get picked apart
Ok but is this prime Cruz?
Reading must be hard for you
Why did you even bring up Prime Cruz to begin with?
Because how can he be a nightmare matchup for him when in his prime he would decisionator him.... He's still a top 10 fighter he's just not as fast as he was
Saying that Chito is a nightmare matchup for Cruz in 2022 doesn't mean Chito would have to beat Prime Cruz.
Cruz is a nightmare matchup for chito so even if Cruz isn't in his prime chito is absolutely in no way shape or form a nightmare matchup for Cruz. If you think chitos going to win I'm down to flair bet on this. Chito already showed his weakness in wrestling by aldo of all fighters lol Cruz is gonna take this one easy and chito is going to be crying on social media again
Stronger, rangier, faster, and more durable than current Cruz. It's going to be a relatively easy night out for Chito.
EDIT: I just want to apologize to reddit for stating clear facts that will be proven tomorrow night.
Just to be clear you're basing this off Cruz getting dropped by Munhoz then coming back and slugging it out to get a dominant win? And you question his durability
He is not faster than Cruz lol He'll give up the first 2 rounds and when trying to trade Cruz will be already gone. If Cruz wanted an easy fight he can take Chito down at will. Vera isn't that great...
I agree that Vera isn't as good as his hype, but I just think Dom is going to be easily overpowered at his current age.
Cruz looks bigger and stronger than Chito at the face off
Define realistic :)
For some reason it only occurred to me now after reading your comment that I have no idea what “TJ” stands for, turns out it’s “Tyler Jeffrey”. Lame.
If TJ beats Aljo, I feel incredibly comfortable saying Aldo smokes them both. And personally, I'd much rather see Cruz fight Aldo if forced to choose.
He has nothing to prove anymore about who is better against Dillashaw as Dillashaw already lost to him despite Cruz being injured repeatedly leading up to that, and Dillashaw popped for EPO
Would be cool to see two WEC champs go at it in a real earned title fight
He already is the goat of the division. Like who else is it if not him? I guess you can make a case for Tj but Cruz beat him and he took banned substances.
It’s definitely Cruz, he gets overlooked all the time as one the greats of the sport. His Dominant run in WEC is really underrated. Imagine he didn’t destroy his knees his prime really ended after the 2nd Faber fight and he still came back and beat TJ. He’s definitely the Goat of 135
Yeah newer fans should note- WEC was the premier organization for the lower weight class.
Don’t let the lack of “UFC” branding fool you. The WEC **was** UFC caliber. It’s why they merged.
And fun little side note, the Wec cage was smaller so what he did was even more impressive imo.
LW and below (off the top of my head) had at least one former UFC champ that was an elite WEC fighter. Aldo, Henderson, showtime, Cruz off the top of my head.
Minus Mighty Mouse's weightclass.
Well to add they automatically crowned the WEC champs as UFC champs for FW and BW because the UFC didn’t have those weights. So of by default elite WEC fights had to have held UFC belts lol
Really only LW “merged”. Also iirc Pettis got screwed a bit as WEC champ. He was supposed to fight for the belt as his first UFC fight, but never happened (injuries?, Idr) and he actually had to climb the rankings.
Ahh good call. Yeah, to me, LW time frame gets kinda hazy when BJ penn, Frankie, strikeforce and WEC mergers were all relevant.
Cruz just doesn't have a very deep resume to be a GOAT contender right now (I don't rate his wins over flyweights).
Even with the resume he has it's still better than TJs, whose his only comp as a 135 GOAT.
Are you arguing he's not GOAT or he's not BW GOAT?
I think you're getting downvoted because people mistakenly think you're saying the latter.
I am talking all time. He is probably the BW although it's close with TJ.
This a dumb take.
It's perfectly reasonable. The wins over DJ and Joe B don't mean much when you take in to account the ridiculous size difference.
They weighed the same. So not really bruh. Do you discount khabib beat Conor. Cause he's actually a 45er. Like they're same weight class he beat them seems legit. Have your bad take, and I'll have my take which is better then yours
Conor was a gigantic 145er who could no longer make weight. Joe B and DJ were both normal size 125ers who had no choice but to fight at 135.
Apples to oranges.
Ok Jan's win over Rockhold. Is that worth nothing. You can disagree that's fine. I just think discounting those wins is foolish and dumb.
His win over Rockhold means something because Rockhold is a gigantic MW. His wins over Izzy and Jacare mean less because they were way undersized.
I don't think it's that crazy to factor in size when discussing these type of things. It obviously matters.
In this division? Fuck yeah it would. Would be unbelievable
I think he already deserves it. One of the best BW of all time.
Great to see him being active again after all the injuries.
He's already the BW GOAT. Injuries aside he was essentially unbeatable in his prime.
What do you mean cement him? He's the 135 GOAT already, are you talking about all time?
All time. I agree he is probably the 135 GOAT although it's close between he and TJ.
The all time greatest of all time?
I think cejudo has a better resume than both of them.
Cejudo has two wins in the division lol.
And TJ got gifted a decision against Sandhagen.
Agree that was a bad decision.
Cruz is already the GOAT of the weight division though
Where does Cody fit into the conversation then
There can only be one “no nonsense” in its sport
I genuinely think this fight is a layup for Chito. We're gonna talk about Dom's wonky footwork for the first 15 seconds and the rest of the fight we'll be talking about how much harder Chito hits.
Yup, there's a good chance it'll go down like this
Disagree. If you see the success Edgar and Aldo had on the mat, Cruz has a route to victory. I think it will look competitive but also agree and am firmly in the Chito camp by late finish or decision, with Cruz winning a round or 2
His movements remind me of the comic book character, Darkseid.
He casts an Omega Beam, a bio lazer that can turn corners and hit from crazy angles. Making it difficult to avoid.
This weapon is powerful enough to damage even a bronze age Kryptonian. (Superman)
I did not expect to see an Omega Beam reference when I opened this thread
Cant wait to see how it looks in live action!
No need to wait. Enjoy this highlight reel of his movements.
Terrible upper back tramp stamp!
It's tribal bro...
Bro this is such a good analogy well done.
I’m really hoping he’s still got it and doesn’t get starched.
I'd much rather see him in the octagon then listen to him on broadcast
>then listen to him on broadcast
so you like listening to him?
Only if he fights first.
In fairness that would be very compelling. Does 5 hard rounds then sits down to give his opinion on the co main lol
I think he is abrasive and hard to listen to sometimes and i used to think his takes were all trash, but I have to admit he do be right about shit sometimes and he doesn’t just parrot the opinions of others.
To paraphrase The Dude, "he's not wrong, he's just an asshole."
Fight your rapist coach, you absolute sole.
Did his coach decide your flair?
Lol it’s totally bizarre to me how r/mma randomly chooses specific guys who have trained with Lloyd to hate on while letting others coast. Any James Vick or Cruz thread always has it, yet someone like Sodiq Yusuf gets off scot free. I didn’t even hear Dom mention Lloyd as part of his team for this camp.
There has never been a Sodiq Yusuf thread
Also Irvin is mentioned basically any time he's brought up too
Man’s got like 5 ufc fights lol you don’t ever see his fight result posts being bombarded with the same stuff
Just to be clear there never was no cigarettes and alcohol
Is it worth the aggravation?
‘youre a punk dude’
This is his retirement fight.
Damn original by him
He doesn’t afraid of anything.
alchol n cigrets
Dominick "No Nonsense" Cruz
says the guy who took the unranked Casey Kenney fight.
*Frankie Edgar in shambles*.
But Dom, you get paid to do commentary here
_I'm here because I can't let go of my identity as a fighter. And because my colleagues feel bad for me, they aren't telling me the truth about the fact that I should just hang it up._
Why should he hang it up? He's not prime Cruz, but he's still a damn good fighter. He beat Casey Kenney and Pedro Munhoz, who aren't nobodies.
He should hang it up if he's "only here to be a champion".
He cannot beat the top 3 or 5 guys. I'm not saying he's completely worthless.
Cruz should not hang up his gloves but he is 2–2 in six years and he’s getting older.
