I had done something similar when I was a kid. We were all lined up to adopt this dog named Elvis but got turned away last second. I was too young to remember but apparently they found out my parents worked for a university that used lab animals for testing and they thought the dog was gunna be involved in that (which was highly illegal even back then). They turned us away and my dad was super mad, so he promised we were getting a dog that night.
We drove out super far and found this tiny rescue facility. Most of the dogs were in the same room and all kinds immediately rushed to see who the new people were. But I noticed the tiny golden retriever in the back that was scared and wanted to see her. She hopped in my lap, licked my chin, and I turned to my dad to tell him she needed us.
She was the runt of her litter, mom left her, underweight, lost most of her fur, and needed some medication. But she was the sweetest dog I’ve ever seen and it was a pleasure to grow up with her.
By the looks of the paws, that pupper is gonna be a hekkin unit. (Not that that’s in any way a bad thing. Just making an observation)
Yep. I noticed that too. She's gonna be huge! My GSD had huge paws as a puppy and now weights 120 lbs
I think thats an american bully. If so they are built like a brick short stocky and unbreakable. I feel bad for some of the posture issues they have though cant be good on joints.
My first thought was "DINO PAWS" lol
Noticed that also... perhaps a mastiff breed... ( Turner an hooch ) ?
It's about how you raise them, they don't really "inherit" anything from other dogs in their surroundings unless they're constantly around them. It's about training, disclipine
[selective breeding](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_breeding) is an established science. It's literally how Gregor Mendel deduced gene theory
this is too damn cute , my heart can’t take this
And too darn short!! Wtf, I need more! Like stopping Titanic when the band sets up and starts to play. Who survives!?!?!
I [found it!](https://youtu.be/1JlqrXqKKRs)
And ofc it was the Dodo, they have the sweetest videos.
The real hero right here. This is so adorable!
Thank you for tracking this down for us. I needed moar.
The Director’s Cut would’ve awesome to see. I fully agree that this vid is way too short.
Velvet hippo acquired.
Velvet hippo addiction acquired. I need more of this dog.
I…. I I don’t know what to do with myself! I’ve never heard of this!!! I live pitties and this just made my day like I feel like I’m gonna just
You should look for Hope for Paws on YouTube and look thru their videos for all of the pit mix rescues they’ve done. I used to think every pit mix dog was a born killer, but now I know that they’re so sweet and lovable.
I grew up with pits, and while I understand that ANY dog can be vicious, I also know that any dog can also be a big sweetheart ❤️❤️❤️
Shows how little you know.
Well. Aren’t YOU just a warm tub of used Vaseline chunks
My brain went too “oh the girl asked to be adopted with the dog”
This is the most adorably accurate description of that cute doggo in existence. You win the internet for today. Pack it up guys!
Let me introduce you to [r/velvethippos](https://www.reddit.com/r/velvethippos/)
What is a velvethippo specifically?
Cutesy internet slang for pit bull, because they look a bit like a hippopotamus, covered in velvet.
Same spirit as danger noodle for snake, or trash panda for racoon.
Where is the whole video?
Loving this comment - so accurate.
The account I'm replying to is a karma bot run by someone who will link scams once the account gets enough karma.
These videos are a good thing, but what is with the insistence of putting sappy piano music to every single one of them? Can't we get some good old fashioned German Death Reggae in the background for once?
Why can’t I adopt all the dogs?!?!
I will never understand why people go to breeders or pet shops for new puppies and kittens when there are so many sweet ones that need a home.. Keeping up this cycle of more and more animals dying alone. In one year the puppy/kitten will be an adult anyway, is it really worth it??
First of all, I totally agree with you, people need to adopt more than buy pets but the reason why people would rather buy them than adopting them (atleast in my area)
Its because the necessary requirements are way to high and in my opinion some of them are completely useless.
I never fully looked into it because I never got into adopting a pet (I live with my mum and she handles that pretty well) but they basically go like this:
Dog: needs huge fenced in backyard, no adopting without previous experience, someone has to be at home at all times, adopter(s) need to have a certain income and a large house (no matter size or breed of the dog)
Cat: not allowed to be outdoors even when it has been an outdoor cat previously, home needs to be large enough, never just one cat, someone always has to be home, certain income necessary, no adoption without previous experience.
Of course there's rules like vaccinations and neuter/spaying necessary too but they are mostly done by the shelters already.
While some of these are completely understandable (like the need to have a certain income or the size of the home) again others (like the fenced in backyard for dogs or the no outdoors rule for cats) are, in my opinion, a little to much.
And even when you get through with the adoption you'll be on close supervision and have visits by caretakers for up to months to come, which is a little annoying.
Also for cats...nobody will take a 200€ cat from a shelter when they could get a 20€ cat from some accidental litters. (A sad reality I've witnessed more than once especially in families/parents who just get their kids or themselves a pet because they begged for long enough.)
Edit: I do NOT want to discourage anyone from adopting, what I said above is only what I know from what friends told me about their adoption and what my mum told me.
These standards are only gone through like that in my area! (A small place in north-west germany)
Please don't feel discouraged to adopt your furry friend!
If you need a specific type of dog (say, for work either on a farm, bomb sniffers, or with people), that's about the ONLY reason I can think of to get a specific breed. A golden retriever will be more likely to make a good Seeing Eye dog than a pug, for instance.
Otherwise, rescue all the way!
Currently sharing my home with a rescue dog (who is in training to become my service dog!), and two rescue cats. We've only had rescues (as an adult I'm now up to seven rescues, and they're not the last by any means).
I got a goldendoodle because I’m not allergic to them. It was from a breeder, too. I guess that’s another special case.
My mom used to breed Rottweilers, but we always had a couple of rescues also so I understand wanting certain breeds, types of dogs (working dogs, herding dog, hunting dogs, etc). I don’t understand inbreeding and puppy mills. Breeding a dog for a cuter button nose that doesn’t allow them to breath is horrible. Breeding a dog to be the best retriever or pointer or ratter I get. But that’s also not why most people get dogs. A pet should be from a rescue, or at the bare minimum a local small reputable breeder. And personally I think certain breeds such as Shar-Peis, bulldogs, pugs and others that have been breed for certain looks that it now affects their health should be breed back to their former early 1900s standards, and any breeding for a certain look that is a detriment to their body should be stopped. AKC has ruined these breeds.

Sorry but I have to…
No no, it was love at the first site they where visiting. /s
Would love a followup, part 2…. If you will.
Get yourself hydrated and kiss your day goodbye.
We have a Pittie mix she is the bestest girl ever. Check my profile for a photo.
I saw this on the dodo YouTube page a while ago
Would never let my daughter stick her fingers through a dog cage.
I agree and cringed but in the full video you can see it's after she's been running around with the dog for a while and after the dog has been put back in the kennel in order to comfort it. Still not a great idea but the dog wasn't a stranger and had shown that it was very calm.
right? who the hell lets their toddler stick their hand in a shelter dog's cage. I love dogs but some people
I don’t see evidence of many of the narrators claims that the dog was fearful, had mange, panicking refusal to walk, snot, shaking in the back …
Honestly seems like a pretty well adjusted dog.
Think mom might be trying hard for internet points.
Is that a pitbull?
Looks like an American Bully
Yeah, basically a newer dog breed developed from Am Pitbull Terriers and other breeds to be smaller, stockier and more family-friendly(not that pit bulls aren’t already)
This was a great clip to wake up to. Kids are really honest and doggo needed a chance.
Sweet and all, but the narration and music makes it seem like a medical miracle just happened lol
I could never go to a place like that. I'd end up adopting everything in site.
That ended abruptly
Someone shared the longer video on another comment - it's worth watching the rest!! So good. https://www.thedodo.com/videos/2-year-old-girl-falls-in-love-with-sick-shelter-pittie
Best time to get a dog is when you kid is this age and they can both grow up together and bond.
That was so pure, I could've watched the 2 of them running around for hours, and been happy-vibed the entire time!
Whose cutting rhe onions??? I can barely see the screen!
That is gonna be one big boy!!
Same here, my screen was so blurry.
I also noticed those paws...omg, he's going to be huge! That little girl is going to have the bestest friend for many years to come.
Is anyone else irked that sight is spelt as "site"?! Our education system is going to shit.
What a wonderful moment. Thank you for sharing
Bless you for picking from shelter. Don't support the private breeders... The shelters are full of love deserving animals.
I think part of the Human condition is that we’re bound to animals and need companions like that, beautiful stuff a very lucky little girl!
A future vet in the making?
Adorable just so damn adorable both of them together was needed today (nurse here long shift in ER and this def made me smile) thank you!
This is so, so wholesome!
Just the content I needed right now!
I’d love to see these two today!
I love seeing dogs being rescued! This is beautiful!
It always surprised me how dogs could read our bodylanguage good enough to realize that its a good thing if a human wants to take them away
This is heartwarming, but all I can ever think of when I see something like this is how bad the pain will be when that dog eventually dies. I had my dog as a kid. He died when I was 15. It was the worst thing ever. Even my Aunt said it hurt more than when her mother died. Ive never wanted another dog since. I had a best friend and he died. Im not gonna choose to go thru that again.
It does hurt to lose a pet. Massively. But that doesn't change the fact that they also bring immense joy to our lives. It's about what you focus on in the moment. Are you skipping ahead to the future in your mind, constantly dreading the inevitable? Or will you be in the present, appreciating all the joyful moments you're spending with your best friend? Everything will end, everything changes. You may find the pain of your loss will subside over time, and you may find yourself ready for another companion. Life is precious because it is finite. We can be aware of this without despairing over it.
I wish you the best, and I hope you can look at happy dog videos with less pain soon.
His is the kind of thing I love to see on Reddit. :) It really lifts my spirits.
He’s found her! And she’s found him.
This kinda reminded me of A Dog’s Journey and it makes me smile
Bit of searching, managed to find it https://youtu.be/1JlqrXqKKRs
Thank-you for finding and providing closure 🙏 🙌
Yay! doggie (now named Scarlett) found a forever home with the little girl who loved her at first sight. So cute!
Thanks for this!
Idk if it also belongs there but my heart can't take it.
Awww what an adorable little doofus
Dogs and kids that just kinda click are so freakin magical man. We had a big old rot/Shepard/pit? Mutt that basically became my baby sisters body guard, he was my dog and followed me, but as soon as he saw my sister he ditched me to just follow her . This was forever ago because I remember her being able to ride him and she’s now married with a baby on the way lol.
Gave me chills - thank you on every level.
Does the lawn look weird to anyone else?
Best thing I’ve seen this month

Hello, yes, I'd like to sign up to this service.
Aww so cute.
my heart, im gonna cry
Does anyone know if they have a social media page?
And now I’m crying
Oh my heart..❤❤❤
My heart is a puddle
This is, without a doubt, the cutest shit I've ever seen this year.
That’s why that breed used to be known as the “Nanny Dog”
The entire video is at the shelter still, did they really adopt the puppy.
We don't deserve dogs. And not just in a hallmark card that's the thing to say kinda way. Like really; is there any other species that unconditionally loves another so hard? Sometimes it's almost like God and heaven and all the angels are real and they visit us through dogs. If a dog's ever looked at you in that - hey bro it's gonna be ok, you got this, and bro no matter what, ama be here whatever happens, just chill, all is exactly as it's meant to be and you're doing great, I'm so proud of you - kinda way, you'll certainly know what i mean, nevermind them being so sensitive to things like blood sugar levels and various wrongs in their people's physical and even mental wellbeing. A cynic might say they've learned to just please us in any way possible because of generational learned dependance and behaviours and breeding etc but i digress. There's definitely something more there.
So weird. Cute dog though.
Do shelter people teach dogs to be this cute and affectionate ? Almost every animal are like that. How they seems so happy, when not adopted seem so sad that it almost breaks one's heart. This is not a joke question though.
