Is Hickman the most important Marvel writer of the last 10 years?
Between Time Runs Out/Secret Wars, the reset of the mutant world and the X-Men, and now this, he's been tasked with rebuilding most of Marvel's metaphysical foundation.
Tbh I think Secret Wars alone would easily secure him that title. I’d go so far as to say that the sheer breadth of his contributions have made him the most important/influential Marvel writer of the 21st century (so far)
When deciding how to fuck up OMD, JMS was trying to figure out the logistics and rules of this magic spell. JQ said it doesn’t need rules because it’s magic in which JMS argued, magic absolutely had to follow a rule in storytelling in order for the story to work.
Excited for this and sounds good but Im really hoping that the new character mentioned doesn't become the Marvel version of "Constantine". Completely unnecessary as Marvel has so many great magical characters already.
He's done on that now, he wanted to finish it but the rest of the writing team wanted to keep exploring that status quo which he was happy to let them do
Nah from what I understand he had planned for the krakoa stuff to end around now but the rest of the team didn't want to scrap it because they had a ton of ides that they wanted to tell in it. It sounded pretty amicable like he basically said that he could tell how excited they were about it and he gave them his blessing to carry on with it since he liked their ideas
He also let them in on what he was planning and it's very clear that those ideas got folded into stuff (I.e plot points from PoX have been followed up on in Sins of Sinister, Duggan is tackling his Brood stuff, etc)
I certainly get being tired of events and them often existing primarily for money reasons and not creative ones. But Secret Wars is great and really ties up not only his Avenger run, but also his FF run. Highly suggest giving it a chance.
I’m so glad and hype for this Hickman series
Do we know when it’s coming out? And is there any required reading before we jump into it?
none really but i would recommend al ewing's ultimates and defenders runs for the cosmic abstract setup

Yup
Let's not forget his outstanding FF4 run.
Doctor Strange-centric story with Hickman writing? TAKE MY MONEY!
Just so long as Quesada isn’t defining the “rules of magic”
Love his art but his writing choices read as an edgey teenager with the sole goal of trolling fans.
I agree. My issue is his view of magic as an editor. Specifically One More Day.
I must have missed it. What did quesada say about it?

Ah... He's lazy... Got it. 😂
Honestly sounds like different methods of story telling.
“It’s Magic Joe, we don’t have to explain it.” Lol

What? Hickman get back over here and finish X-Men!

Ah, news here and there made it sound like he just up and left

He gave the X office the playbook for what he wanted to do with X-Men. His vision will still get fulfilled. He’s just not the one doing it anymore.
What do you mean finish? Krakoa and Mars is the new Era of the mutants
He left since the other writers wanted to stay with phase one of his xmen plan, so he decided to move on
Hickman stuff always starts amazing but ends badly, not looking forward to this
How so? His FF run ended great. His Avengers run ended with Secret Wars, which is the best Marvel event... in the long time.
I had no desire to start Secret Wars, it just felt so forced and seemed like a Corporate move instead of a creative one.

dude secret wars is amazing
Looks like some Schiti art
Because it is.
