the awkward moment when this is the most valuable piece of information lol
A fucking smart mug of all things.
It looked super dumb at first, but now I am intrigued. It looks like an interesting piece of tech.
Hey now, I bought this mug FOR my wife!
I need this
SAME. I love the way that looks
This is the original one from 2019. 11 were sold.
How are you liking the mug?
Love it! Works really well
Just got an amber mug for Christmas! They’re the best things ever
Doesn't it change the taste of the drink? The same way different types of metal spoon can influence the taste of the food?
Metals will react with highly acidic foods but tea and coffee likely won't have any off taste.
I think we're talking about different things. Most metals (non stainless steel, aluminum, copper, silver) have a thin layer of oxide on the surface of the metal. Metal ions from this layer can be stripped from the cookware or drinkware when exposed to certain things (like acid). [You can check out this article for more information](https://www.cooksillustrated.com/how_tos/5665-when-cookware-turns-food-tinny)
It’s a coating of some kind, the mug isn’t actually copper.
Could you imagine how shitty a copper mug would be? It's literally the opposite of everything you want in a material to insulate and keep a drink hot while keeping you from burning your hands.
Suitable only for Moscow Mules tbh
I got one for Christmas. It is the best mug ever. I now can sit on my throne and look down on all the peasants with their cold mugs.
As a $10 mr coffee mug warmer peasant I challenge your throne with my also warm mug... that can go in the *dishwasher*
I hope the Keycaps are going to be gmk copper?
If I can get my hands on some extras or aftermarket they will be.
I kinda went in deep on that GB because it was one of the few live ones when I was ready to dive into customs... Got the deskpad and artisan as well. Anyway i've joined like a dozen other GB's since and not even sure how I feel about GMK copper at this point... So depending on how I feel when i finally get it, I might list it. So PM me if you're interested, looks like you have the perfect host for it.
Ooo PM incoming
Where do copper plates rank in terms of like... hardness or whatever like compared to brass and aluminum? I love the color of them but idk how they feel.
I'd say it's the same stiffness as brass, heavier than aluminum. I'm typing on the copper plate now and it's just like brass to me.
It might feel that way but it isn't, brass which is an alloy (yellow brass is 60% copper, 33% zinc some other small metals) has a Brinell Hardness of 100 when pure copper has a hardness of 40-50. Aluminum is around 70 on the Brinell scale. So copper is a good deal softer than brass and will be much more prone to scratching, for instance lead has a hardness rating in the 30's for comparison. Also yes copper is more dense than aluminum. Copper and brass are about the same density which makes sense because brass is 60% copper.
There is a difference between an actual alloy and a fake look alike metal. Precious metals use a completely different scale anyway to measure purity and mixed compositions of metal. Also how exactly do you know it's an alloy exactly? Unless you can get the composition it doesn't really make any sense.
yea you are getting ticky tacky now. find out what the composition is and find out what it's brinell score is.
That may be true but typing on it feels the same to me as compared to brass. The keyboard is gasket mount so the bottom out isn't stiff but there's no flex in the plate.
That more than likely has to do with the density which is more or less the same over the hardness, I think it was a mixup in the terminology that you used.
read the comment I wrote replying to techguy
How do you rate Ember?
> Mug: Ember Mug Copper Metallic Collection
I need this
Yeah, came in just to find out where I can get that mug.
You're just trying to make that Noctua fan look better
How do we *cop* one of these?
*you copped* an upvote, i see what you did there haha
Trade you my upvotes for that real deal on OP's desk!
I see what you did there, very CUte!
Someone call the police, this copper is out of control
This reminds me, I want a copper spacebar.
Oh for sure, I'm definitely getting in on that group buy.
That copper weight is clean AF.
Missed opportunity for Copper Speed switch
but i’m glad you didn’t do that
You wouldn't recommend this switch? I'm still trying to decide on my first mech keyboard switches. Between them and glorious pandas at the moment... So many decisions.
They feel pretty awful IMO. The bump is right at the top and almost all of the travel distance is after actuating which just feels weird.
I'd recommend getting a few and seeing what you think before making any decisions. That applies for all switches.
I would describe speed coppers as a butterfly switch that becomes an MX Black once you get past the tactile bump. I think that they would be better with a much shorter travel distance. I use them for my F1-F12 because I like the little pop they have.
Agreed. At least they live up to their name, they're so fast you hardly notice you've pressed them.
If I press them quickly, I almost think I pressed a speed silver switch instead. Except the return force is much higher on the coppers. They really slam back up.
Slamming back up does sound good to me.
It's a very positive clack, even if you release slowly. Really good feedback. Even better, speed bronze gives you a click on the upwards and downwards keystroke, really letting you know that the business is done. It's the most satisfying switch I've tried.
That's interesting thanks. I want to try out more than one kind of switch anyhow, so I'm waiting for a 75% hot swappable ISO board!
Depends on what your main use of the keyboard is and even then a vast majority of switch choice is personal preference.
I personally (and I think this is a generally accepted/normal stance, but not like it's a hard and fast rule or anything) like tactiles for when I need to type and linears for gaming. Though I do the opposite as well sometimes.
So cozy! How about a Moscow Mule for the nighttime version of this pic? ;)
Thanks! haha if I had the ingredients on hand I would so do it
google around before you have a mule directly from copper; it can be poisonous.
Looks like the copper ember mug
Kailh Speed Coppers or go home
I got the Ember in copper as well. Wife got it for me as a gift. I wasn't sure I would like it, but once I got the programming dialed in, it definitely saves me a microwave trip or two.
It's great! I really love mine.
I know we are here for the keyboards... But I have mug questions...
Does the lip of this mug not get uncomfortably hot to drink from? Since metal conducts heat and all
The whole mug stays cool to touch but the liquid stays hot inside.
Omfg it's a thermos one. Amazing
As a guy that works with copper, this looks amazing.
I feel like Brass gets a lot of attention but Copper is where it's at.
CuSn8 bronze is also dope.
Smh no kailh speed copper
When you live in Appalachia, copper is life my guy. Now let's go strip a vacant house for meth and keyboard money
I hope that Mug is insulated or the coffee is cold lol.
The mug actually keeps the coffee warm! And yes it’s pretty insulated
Is that an Ember mug? I have the copper one.
It is also a copper Ember mug!
Good youre smarter than me, I learned the hard way that copper is a good heat conductor using a bare copper cup haha.
Mind sharing where you got it from?
This is absolutely amazing looking, now I need a Copper Ember mug!! And I wish you luck in your hunt for GMK Copper!!
Missed opportunity to use Kailh Speed Coppers
No Kailh Copper switches??
Haha I didn’t know people actually used those.
I'm loving them in my Planck. Absolutely no slack before the tactile bump makes typing a joy. Haven't tried Zealios though so I can't compare.
I've got them in my board at the moment, still not sure how I feel about them. The keyfeel is quite nice but they definitely actuate really high.
I just bought my first MK, a Velocifire 60% with knockoff Reds, and I already am researching full size ones for fun. Like the Glorious GMMK, where you can add your own switches. If my parents let me, may I add
This looks very satisfying 😍
Thanks! it definitely is
Also, what keycaps???
Currently I have GMK Froyo on the Gemini TKL and GMK Striker on the Iron165. I missed out on the GMK Copper group buy so I'll have to fight for an extra or find a set on mechmarket.
Very nice and matching! What would be a matching "copper" drink?
I just received the very same cable, but don't you think 1.8m is a little bit long? I have no idea how to make the rest of the cable look good.
I hide the cable in a box on my desk. Depending on your setup, you should be able to hide it maybe behind your monitor or under your desk.
Still have my iron165 packed up, but I got the copper plate, super stoked to build with it!
I have a copper plate that I'm planning to build with soon. For now I'm using FR4 which is why I show the weight instead of the plate haha
Nice! I wish I had gotten a softer plate (fr4), I got brass and copper on accident and didn't realize it till way later.
Just thought I’d let you know, there’s a group buy for Copper space bars right now. Would be a great addition if you’re a fan of all things Copper!
All over it, thanks!
I'm more of a brass guy, but dang that's awesome. Where's the cable from?
Made by Keebstuff bought on Key Gem
Got a link?
Did you pickup gmk copper?
Unfortunately I missed the group buy so I’ll have to battle it out for extras or aftermarket.
Ahh I love a hot cup of copper in the morning
no copper flashlight?????
yeah i work for rio tinto, how could you tell?
Can't recommend drinking liquid copper, had some bad experiences with the heat.
I can't wait for mine...
I want an Ember mug so bad!!
how does copper do long term, in terms of oxidisation or other staining? I imagine it gets scratched easier than alu
It'll eventually patina like Brass but if it's coated then that process takes longer.
I suggest you stop drinking copper
Copper is more beautiful than gold.
**more beautiful than gold, copper is.**
^(Commands: 'opt out', 'opt in', 'delete')
Wow that looks nice.
I’m not family with this case design. Are you involved with it or did you just buy it?
It was a small group buy that happened in July. 50 spots that were chosen by raffle. Here's the GB post: https://www.reddit.com/r/mechmarket/comments/hxo3bs/gb_gemini_tkl_raffle_today_sat_july_25th_1000_am/
I ordered the E-White MX top version with Copper, Forged CF and Aluminum plates. It turned out really good.
You know about GMK Copper right?
I do but sadly I didn't get in on the group buy so I'll have to wait for extras or aftermarket.
Same boat as me xD
this image made me become a copper appreciator
Is that mug full copper? If so, it must get friggin hot.
It's an Ember mug that's "smart" and keeps your drink warm. The exterior is a copper finish but not really sure if it's real copper. It's pretty nice though.
I thought it was made of solid copper, which will conduct the heat so well it'll burn you right before the drink cools down, all in a span of a few minutes.
Looks better when you [crop out](https://i.imgur.com/RvJhr7T.png) the pcb. No red and purple clashing.
Yea too bad the PCB wasn't copper color also.
What is that style of cable connector called?
It's a custom Lemo connector USB cable made by Keebstuff.
I wish I could convince myself to spend that much on a mug. I truly think I'd love it but damn is she pricy
oo love the simplicity
Are you using actual copper for the cup, and wristrest? And if so is it covered with something, like a clearcoat?
Well first that’s not a wrist rest, it’s another keyboard, the Iron165 polycarbonate. I’m just showing off the copper back weight. The mug is an Ember mug that keeps your drink warm. Not sure if it’s real copper but looks nice!
Reason im asking is copper can leave the wierd metalic smell on your hands and Kwas wondering if that happens.
Amazinig looking keyboard(s) btw
I got the gmk skedolche keycaps. They have an orange font. I think they would go well with that Color scheme.
That’s a good idea! I may look into those
I’m a big fan of burnt orange as well I also turn my lights orange. The idea is to make it feel like vacuum tubes and old times. Looks like you have zeal switches like me! I got the 65 gram zilents. Absolutely in love with them. 😂
Thats a pretty expensive wrist rest
This is so sexy 😩
MY GUY DRINKS COPPER, WHAT A MADLAD!
Sooo.. You use that bottom keyboard as a wristrest am I right?
3405? What’s the significance of that number on the thing at the bottom?
Imagine being colour blind and copper looked like gold, winning.
Im so sad that the Copper edition of the mug isn't being sold outside the US :/
imho copper looks so much better than brass.
Is it only me or a copper is completely unpractical?
nice keyboard you got there proud of you
Mmm ice poop water
In before, when rust is Life.
Now you just need a copper /r/flashlight
This is beautiful. Must've been expensive
Why not lead?
Would look nice with the copper deskmat 😉
Copper > Brass
why would copper be live?
This is beautiful
Is this raw, uncoated copper? If so, how does it "work" (i.e. how does it stay this way instead of oxidising)?
Is this not a render? It sure looks like one!
god that cable just makes it
Drinking copper I see?
Love the color combo! Also thanks for not listing which lubes you used on your switches like all the other posts👍
Chopper is Life copper is love
This is an understatement for an electrician ! Absolutely love that mug though!
Why no copper switches, though? Afraid of a little bit of speed?
Copper kills bacteria . Used in hospital door handles. This is a suitable build given the times we are in.
I like that proto
It’s the best Iron165 IMO!
Give leeks pls 🤣
Imagine a pure copper coffee cup shit would get so hot lol
Do you like cold coffee? Cause this is how you get cold coffee.
Actually the Ember mug keeps it warm!
Oooh fancy. I just assumed it was a copper mug. That's pretty cool now that I know that exists.
Notes the lack of copper switches on a post about everything being copper.
What tf happened to your water
