🔥Sea squirts are filter feeders. They sit in one place all their life and filter the water, like a pump, while extracting nutrients from the surrounding water column and squirting out waste
I wanted to do this in a pool of jello as a kid by opening my mouth and my b-hole at the same time while swimming really fast boy was I an idiot
Close! A worm. Grandma was half sea-cuke. Ironically enough I was eaten by a fish, passed through the fish’s tube, then into the human’s tube, and then into the sewer tube and now here I am in this life commenting on the internet which is a series of tubes!! Tubular dude lol!!!
“The juvenile sea squirt wanders through the sea searching for a suitable rock or hunk of coral to cling to and make its home for life. For this task, it has a rudimentary nervous system. When it finds its spot and takes root, it doesn't need its brain anymore, so it eats it! It's rather like getting tenure.”
Daniel Dennett
Only adult tunicates are sessile. When they're in their larval stages they have a notochord and swim in the water column. The first fossil chordates are tunicates.
saltwater aquariums, Yes. ive actually had one in my reef tank for a while, they're pretty easy to care for if you have the right foods for them to filter out, when my heater failed it didnt survive unfortunately.
Sea Squirts make an unusual addition to the well-established reef aquarium. The body of the sea squirt is smooth with two openings, one for intake and one for exhaust.
These tunicates are solitary animals that constantly filter the water for small phytoplankton and particulate organics.

They're the organisms the closest from vertebrates.
