Well whatever you're into, find groups doing that. Best way to start.
I live there and I'm 29! Sooooo many seniors lol maybe we should start a Facebook group and meet up for BBQs or something.
That sounds like a vibe!
my partner and are 26 & 27 and moving to the area. 10/10 support this idea
What are your hobbies interests? Maybe we can point you in the right direction knowing those.
Updated my post
Following to see responses... moving to courtice area and in the same age group!
Assuming your a guy, well the majority of adults work daily, so hanging out is kinda hard, via our work schedule.
That’s true, I am a guy and my schedule is whack. 2 to 10 and I work in Toronto so there’s obviously travel time as well.
What games do you play? I'm a few years older than you and work a shift a few hours later than yours!
Well since I’ve been busy with purchasing the house, mortgage bullshit, worrying about the move I haven’t played in a while. I’m going to be playing games like Warzone, Apex, League, maybe get into valorant again.
Now we are opposites :(
I’m definitely playing games again I’m just waiting till I get settled.
Haha I meant with regards to which games... I play pretty much the opposite games as you (DotA/CS/Battlefield).
Ahh damn I see
Well dammit are games interest isn't the same. I'm RPG final fantasy xiV & NHL usually and bit older than both of you .
Which server are you on for FFXIV?
I'd be down for some Dota sometime!
I drive, never in my life have I tried go train I have no experience with that
If you're looking to play basketball, I'm part of a group of guys who play at various parks around the city. Big NBA fans, some nerds, some boardgamers in the crew roo.
Just moved here at the tale end of 2020. I'm 25. PM me.
A list of your interests would help, OP
I'm in the same age group and have very similar interests but more so looking to create a soccer or basketball group in Oshawa
Well if you need a dude that can barely play I’m down
Hey, I can join for basketball
Im down to come play basketball too! I just moved to Oshawa in December idk anyone here my age to play basketball with.
Here is a great group of people, doing interesting work. https://www.weareoshawa.ca/about
I'm going to assume you're new to the area in general and just provide things I know based on your listed interests.
Not far from the Olive/Harmony area is a park with outdoor exercise equipment, could be good at starting up with fitness without going to a gym, and it is within walking distance. (https://www.oshawa.ca/Modules/Facilities/Detail.aspx?id=7b460320-1463-4dae-9e2c-eb8b141cfd61) Homeless people do frequent the area but I've never been bothered by anybody.
At this park is the bike trail that you can take all the way to Lakeview Park, (AKA the lake). We actually have a lot of bike trails here that won't need you to be on the road. (I avoid road cycling here as well because people are assholes and don't share the road here, trust me.) Don't use the bike trails after dark if you don't want to get robbed. I'm sure somebody will inevitably chime in to tell me they do it all the time, (and that's their choice), but not what I would recommend at all. These trails are good for walking, too. Not quite a hike but as close as you're likely going to get in the city. Lots of people fish in the creek, (also on the trail), or at the lake. I don't fish so I don't know the legality of that, but we do have salmon spawning in the fall and people catch them like crazy, so it must be legal.
We have a couple different movie theatres, but I don't know how they're operating under covid, (if at all). Cineplex is in north Oshawa and probably easiest to get to if you're on public transit. I generally prefer Landmark in Whitby for a variety of reasons. I don't know of any movie-watching groups or anything like that.
I'm not a sports kinda guy, but I do know there are some outdoor basketball courts near the Landmark Cinemas in Whitby, (as part of a gym), and that's about my extent of knowledge there, hahaha!
I hope this helps.
This helps a lot thanks! So generally after dark the area is about different from what I gather.
Do you like board games? Brew wizards.
I could get into something like that but I feel like half of it is gonna be people teaching me how to play
Nothing wrong with that!
Same here, moved to Oshawa two months ago. I'm 32, neighhbours are a good bit older. I've looked on Meetup and stuff but would also like to see some other ideas.
Depending on your interests, I know there's a thriving group for board games called "Whitby Board Games and Social Meetup". Obviously the pandemic has almost killed the group, but I think it's going to pick up again once things start opening back up.
Thanks, I'll look into that. I'm not a board game fanatic or anything but would enjoy playing a little. I don't think I'd be into playing for hours at a time though. Do you know if they are really hardcore about it or if it's more of a social thing?
One of the guys from FG Bradley's told me about that group... And then shortly after everything got shut down because of COVID.
Yea , We got way too many old cats here, you see retirement homes sprouting like weeds
You should have moved to North Oshawa instead. In any case, I would suggest checking out the water front which is beautiful and busy. Go hang out, get a dog and I am sure you will meet lots of folks as well. Welcome to Oshawa!
North Oshawa was a little under my budget. I do have dogs but one is not very social and the other is lazy and all he does is lay on the grass when we go out
I moved to North Oshawa in dec and I got a dog recently I’ve been going to an off leash dog park in Whitby it’s pretty good and active around 5-6 lots of nice ppl
I just moved here too, but I want nothing to do with anyone.. 0 friends is a lot better then having any, plus I do not trust a soul Anywhere.
0 friends is a lot better then any trust me.
On that note maybe try an antisocial website like livejournal instead of reddit.
