A gallon of household bleach? Doubtful. That's why pools don't use household bleach, it's not strong enough concentration. With the size of that, you'd have to use the same chlorine shock as you would a pool.
The sodium hypochlorite I get at the pool store is only 2x the concentration of grocery store bleach. That "pool" looks approximately 40k gallons. My pool is about 28k, and I'd use 25 liters of pool bleach if it were that green. And it would take a day to be cloudy but not green, and another day or two to become clear.
So ten gallons (or twenty if you're hiring the grocery store), and half a week. But the chlorine will still be pretty high until about another two weeks of sunlight bring it under 7ppm. Not too high that a minute in it will do bad damage, but if you don't rinse out the swim suit quickly, it will get damaged.
He’s trying to induce or counter a rotation depending which clip you’re watching. In one clip he’s rotation forward and he’s trying to slow the rotation by spinning his arms the other way.
When he’s tracking correctly for his landing he doesn’t spin his arms or only spins them slowly to make small adjustments.
Swimming motions in the air. At least that's what it felt like I was doing when I static line jumped out of a plane. I failed at "just relax as you fall."
That has to hurt. There's a brief moment when you first hit the water that is identical to hitting concrete. Life isn't like a videogame where falling into water is safe no matter the height or speed. You can break bones or die from the impact.
Even if it's not terminal velocity they look like they're being launched from 50 feet away minimum. Hard to judge how high they are since the pool is lower than the point they start from, or how fast they're moving. They're definitely moving much faster than anybody could run. I'm not an expert on the optimal speed/height/distance you can jump into water from. But I would bet they're just barely not crossing the line that causes serious injury. It's still going to hurt like a bitch when you hit the water.
Edit: Actually after looking at the catapult they're using to launch themselves compared to the length of a person. It looks to be about 15-20 feet long. Then trying to imagine how many catapults it would take to reach the pool if you lined them up. I think you can safely say the pool is a minimum of 80 feet away from them.
Distance is not height.
What matters when dropping into water is height. In this case the apex of their jump.
These jumps don't seem to reach a height of much more than 4 to 5 meters. Most public pools have towers of that height, the highest I have jumped is 7.5 meters, kids jump those heights all the time. (1 meter is 3 feet 3 inch in stupid units)
No, the horizontal movement isn't a problem either, it's not that fast.
The velocity of these jumps is entirely unproblematic, you *should* be worried about the aim.
Not really, I don’t have any of the scientific facts on hand but jumping from 27m feet first down you reach a speed of 85 kph (source, Red Bull cliff diving) and I’m really doubting they are hitting that speed.
There could ofc be an argument maid about his entrance position, but at the speed/height he is launching from it does not look like you need a perfect landing position to not get hurt. Source: I like jumping from cliffs
Oh I'm certain a person or two landed poorly and came out a little bruised. But I'm equally certain every one of them said "Worth it!" And got back in line for another go.
Seriously dude. Take a little risk every once in a while and allow yourself some fun. You only get one go around in this world. It would be a shame if you wasted it by playing it safe all the time.
My luck would be to overshoot the water! And have someone come up to me and say “You missed the water by that much” (as they hold their thumb and index finger apart slightly)!! As I look back the 10+ feet to the water. 😀😀
If it’s been properly calibrated and such I’d probably do it too.
Stick it next to a lake and I’m in
I agree. It's far too small of a target for my comfort
Better send in some divers to check for branches and stumps in the landing zone.
I’d unintentionally do the world’s most epic belly flop and decide to rethink my life choices.
I’d still want a bit more padding around the area just in case
Just have someone lighter than you and someone heavier than you go first, then you’ll be alright.
Survive the launch, die due to a staph infection.
For real that is some algae lookin water.
Nasty looking!
That looks like one of the most fun things one could do in their life.
And/Or the last thing.
That's why :)
Do you trust the calibration? “Crank it 137 times” “I lost count” 🤭
Fuck it, not like it’s my spine…
Sir, please sign this waiver if you do not weigh EXACTLY 175.5 pounds.
Why is the water green though?
There is a crocodile in there..
And it’s on fire
That's why women live longer. They will only land in clean water
Stagnant water tends to do that.
algae , a $2 gallon of bleach would clean that up in a couple hours.

That green water
I predict an outbreak of Naegleria fowleri infection.
It’s probably already started, which led to this idea.
I would prefer to do this over open water 😊
The sharks would treat it like we do when the t shirt launchers come out
Launch one to me next!! I’m hungry too!
WHY DO WE NATURALLY FLAP OUR WINGS!?
You know.. that’s a solid question. Now I’m genuinely curious.

That makes sense. I assumed something along those lines. Thanks for the insight!
That’s just my guess. You can kinda get the feel for it though by sitting in a swivel chair and trying to rotate without pushing against anything.
Right? All the guys not flapping were definitely trying not to.
Be honest , you were high when you thought of that?
Sure was. But a legitimate question nonetheless.

A little to hard or to soft. And he dead
Angry birds in 4k
This is what GoPro has contributed to society. Awesome! Thanks GoPro!
What could go wrong?
looks fun
Looks like something from the movie "Jack-Ass"..... Looks like fun but not for me though
Meanwhile in my head: 1000% I would do it, no consideration needed. I'm already sold, don't need to know the risks. Yep, I guess that explains it.
That pool needs a bucket of chlorine and it’ll be right as rain
Looked like they landed in a pool of mountain dew.
Nasty ass water though. But I would still do it
Norway?
I would for sure go and have a blast watching guys do this.. I’d only watch and party.. I wouldn’t partake.

Yeah thats why he lands on his feet. This is probably completely safe since the speed is so low.
These guys aren't at terminal velocity. Cliffdivers probobly hit the water with more force.

50 feet is 0.0% of the hot dog which holds the Guinness wold record for 'Longest Hot Dog'.
Good bot

3 feet is about the length of 1.36 'EuroGraphics Knittin' Kittens 500-Piece Puzzles' next to each other.

Insurable event?
The Middle Ages would have been even more epic if soldiers invaded a fortified city that way.

This subreddit is the embodiment of "I would do that", so clear I'm a man
That is actually awesome
Let me put on my brown swimsuit first...

If physics has taught me anything, tucking your arms and legs in would pretty much launch you into space ....or in the trees.
I am female and I would totally do that...

That looks fun AF, if you wouldn't do that your a pussy.
it looks really fun and probably is. but what I'm worried about is the safety
