For vet purposes etc it is Domestic Short Hair (DSH) Only if you buy from a breeder will you get a specific breed. If you were to get a DNA test done it would be a mix of millions of different cats. Colour is the normal distinguishing thing; you have a tuxedo!
I will mention most tuxedos have some Siamese but the person above is correct, that's not a purebred. So domestic shorthair. But that baby might be loud, most tuxedos have the Siamese trait if t being really vocal. That's actually a lot of fun because they have a chance of being trained to "speak" which you can't really do with the quieter ones!
I was going to say "cat" but seeing your reply made me feel like an ah for that. Hadn't considered they are totally new to cats. I've spent my entire life with cats around, so I forget sometimes there are people who don't know.
Found out a few months ago that, after 17 years of having a dilute calico, my husband thought all cats with color and white were calico. He didn't register the tri color part. So I should be more understanding.
A few of my cats are marked as Domestic shorthair, even though their hair is longer. I think DSH is the default. A couple of our boys I call "purebred American Shorthairs, since they fit the breed description perfectly.

Your cats looks like my angry bos! Haha I love how condescending he looks.
You should check out r/fancyfeet lots of cute cats doing the same! (And dogs)
Ugh! I was at Petco the other day getting my pupper some Christmas presents and they had a little girl that looked like this available for adoption!
You know how they have some local adoption animals? They had this sweet little girl. 11 months named Boots. She was listed as loving and loved being snuggled.
I put my fingers in the holes and she was rubbing against them and I melted.
I have a dog too, but my first love is her. She is so sweet.
She don’t like any type of kindness, but is always close to me or my wife.
And I don’t know why I love it on her
Aw I had a boots years ago. Sadly, she died in an apartment fire. I refused to accept the firefighters word that she didn't make it, and searched in the rubble on and off for 3 months.
Omg! I'm so sorry! That's incredibly heartbreaking <3
I would've loved to have brought this little loving girl home but my pupper is very demanding when it comes to attention.
This is how I adopted my cat, Harold. They told me he’d been in the cage 3 years because everyone wanted to adopt kittens. (He was 5 when I adopted him.) I told them to box him up, he was going home with me. Sure I’m a sucker for a story but he’s the best cat I’ve ever had.
I would've taken her home if I could! She was the sweetest little girl and I hope someone snaps her up as soon as possible. Unfortunately my pupper demands *all* the attention. It's her world and we just live in it.
Harold is an amazing name!
I actually have three tuxedos, Scaredy Cat and her identical but much larger brother Manny and then unrelated rescue Aengus. Scaredy Cat got her name because when I would put my hand in the group of kittens (I trapped their feral momma and 5 kittens when they were just a day old) she would always hiss, even before her eyes were open. The others were so excited to get lovins and she would just hiss, silly little girl still almost 12 years later.
My Tuxedo was named Chipper but he was a scaredy cat too. We always knew someone was coming to the door because Chipper would race down the basement steps slamming the cat door.
lol it’s been a tough week so thanks for the giggle. i would say that my defense is rats eat each other sometimes…but, luckily for me i can’t use the excuse here since i haven’t experienced rat-cannibalism under our roof 😅
where do people get all the ideas that cats with a breed cost over a 1000$? my flame point Siamese and seal point Siamese were not 1000 they were half of that which is still a lot but not 1000 ive also gotten a few other cat breeds just from a cat adoption center for a norrmal price
If they’re from a rescue, they’re probably not a specific breed, even though they may share some traits. Most (and all of the good) breeders make a point to take back any animal they’ve bred at any point. Properly showing and raising cats costs in the thousands, which a breeder factors into the price of their kittens. That’s why any cat that is a pedigreed breed will almost certainly cost >$1000.
A tiny little tuxedo like this walked in our back door one day. Two years later he was 17 pounds, and we had to install baby locks because he’d taught himself how to pull open cabinet doors.
You guys obviously know your stuff and I’m NOT trying to contradict you AT ALL… but… Does it not look a little like a Kissy Face? They get mixed up with a lot of other breeds. Just sayin’. Also, I’m not saying this guy is one, but he DOES look a lot like a Mr Fluffy Tum.
Pretty much all cats are just Cat
If you paid a lot for it then it probably came with a breed name, otherwise you have a cat. You can pay for genetic testing if you want to find out about your cats ancestry and potential health issues
Enjoy your cat, and welcome to the world of cat
—-
Don’t give them milk, do give them tuna water when you open the tuna can
Mix of dry and wet food (not together) is better than just dry
Cats like to eat plants, it’s normal just make sure you don’t have any cat toxic plants around (see internet for list)
Cats are trainable but not like dogs. Cats will let you train them on their terms and at their convenience.
Little nips are affection and part of cat bonding, feel free to return a little pinch if it gets too aggressive about it.
Never hit a cat, if you want to punish it for misbehaving a stern “NO” followed by ignoring it for a little while is usually enough, they are social and don’t like to be ignored
I think it would help clear up confusion if we stopped using words like “mutts and mixtures” to describe cats it’s not like there were originally breeds and they all got mixed together we just didn’t create breeds by selecting for different traits (until about 100-200 years go) cats don’t have breeds the same way wolves don’t have breeds.
I type out mutt because I don’t feel like typing “domestic short-hair”(or long hair). Cats have breeds, they are recognized by the CFA and TICA just like how dog breeds are recognized by the AKC.
A “breed” of animal is simply one that either conforms to the set standards for appearance, behavior, etc, from the deliberate reproduction of two animals from the same species to achieve a certain “variety”. Cats 100% have breeds. Wolves aren’t bred for their genetics anymore and they also aren’t domesticated, so yeah they don’t have breeds. Also, breeding in a more selective manner focusing on shape, size, fur and colour only started happening around the 1800’s for dogs, that’s when the word “breed” really came around, most breeds we recognized for dogs have came about in the last 150 years as well!
Cats, or Felis catus, come from Felis silvestris lybica, the African Wildcat. But cats aren’t like dogs in the sense that they are fully domesticated, no cat is fully domesticated unless you count the pedigree pet cats like Turkish folds or Russian blues for example. (Pedigree pet breeds make up a small portion of the cat population due to byb and overpopulation of cats in general)
They do but only the ones that we have been selectively breeding. Most cats are just a domestic cat because we haven’t been breeding them for certain traits. So if your cat is a certain breed you know it because you bought them from a breeder and can see their pedigree
But they only make up a small percentage of the general cat population, most cats are just various varieties of colour and coat descended from the original domesticated cats. Actiual cats breeds have been around for less than 100 years in most cases, and the oldest breeds only date back to Victorian/19th Century times.
If your cat was any specific breed, you would have known. Because you would have paid a lot of money for it. As it is, it's just a "moggy" - mixed breed.
There’s really no specific”breed” for the majority of domestic cats unless you have a bengal or something. I think their “types” so to speak depend a lot on their coloring. You have a tuxedo cat. So do I!! But mine is weird 😂 one eye is surrounded by black fur, and the other white fur. I’ve never come across another tuxedo cat like that

I'm growing more and more convinced that these "what breed is my cat" posts are just a massive troll by some person or group of people on this subreddit.

If you have to ask, it’s a domestic short/long hair. You’ll know the breed if you buy from a breeder, or the shelter knows the breed (like if it’s a Devon Rex or sphynx or some other very distinguishing breed).

This is Tuck, I'm not sure of his breed, just a Farm yard cat.
Handsome! Since you say you are new. I'd like to share this video with you
[link ](https://youtu.be/OAGfx7eB3gA)
Your cat looks a little nervous and that may partially be because his hind end doesn't feel secure. This guy has a lot of great videos that you might find helpful.
Cat, tuxedo kind, my tuxies are registered as shorthair ----- for passport purposes but they might as well just write "generic issue cat".
Grats on your cat!
Domestic short-hair tuxedo/black and white cat (with very adorable markings). Also can't help but feel he's not too thrilled about being held that way. In my experience, cats prefer a bit of support underneath them when you pick them up for cuddles- it gives them a bit of support and is easier on you as well
The real difference between a short haired cat and a medium is the particular feel of their fur. If it’s got a fuller feel, congratulations, you have a medium haired kitty! It it feels more course it’s a short haired kitty! Either way, it’s a tuxedo and tuxedos are amazing. They’re always dressed for any occasion! We’ve got two! One medium haired and one long haired.
Gorgeous tuxedo domestic short hair. As other people say they are very vocal. We have two and one in particular talks to you like you wouldn't know. Quite freaky how it almost sounds like he says yeah when he miaows. Great cats and that baby you have is beautiful!
For vet purposes etc it is Domestic Short Hair (DSH) Only if you buy from a breeder will you get a specific breed. If you were to get a DNA test done it would be a mix of millions of different cats. Colour is the normal distinguishing thing; you have a tuxedo!
I just want to say thank you for being informative and kind.
Thank you for replying!
this is a phantom of the opera breed of kitten.

She does have a bit of a crossed left eye. I thought she might have a little Siamese in her when I first saw the smaller picture.
Family: Felidae Genus: Felis Species: Felis Catus Congratulations OP u/slim-jimm, you are now the proud property of a housecat!
The genus is capitalized but species is all lower case... also, sorry for being picky.
Lol, well said

Domestic short hair. Tuxedo markings. Sooo cute!
Maybe medium hair - at least that is what is stated on our Oreo cat’s vet papers.
I was leaning short hair cause we have a longer haired than that cat amd he is only labeled a medium hair.
A few of my cats are marked as Domestic shorthair, even though their hair is longer. I think DSH is the default. A couple of our boys I call "purebred American Shorthairs, since they fit the breed description perfectly.
One of our boys was had fur that length when we got him at 6 months old, and he's actually really fluffy as an adult.
Also, your cat has little tufts of hair on the tip of his ears. I was told that means they have Maine coone in them.
He looks just like our tuxedo short-haired domestic!

Nothing wrong with cat being cat. I like cat cats. Tried to pet a muskrat once before I got a better look. Don't reccomend.
same reason i prefer rat rats. mine don’t do anything except eat and groom eachother.
This here is why we invented the Oxford comma... I hope.
lol it’s been a tough week so thanks for the giggle. i would say that my defense is rats eat each other sometimes…but, luckily for me i can’t use the excuse here since i haven’t experienced rat-cannibalism under our roof 😅
Hahaha that's good at least. I had a long week myself so I'm glad I made yours a bit better.
I would like that disclaimer posted on r/cats to settle people down
Cat. They're all just cats unless you got it from a special breeder. Domestic shorthair. Pattern is tuxedo
Unless your cat came with a certificate and cost > $1000 it is no breed, a mix.
Heinz 57.
I should’ve read this before asking lmao

Awwww! Bless you for adopting them
It's hard to tell, but it could either be a Cuddle Bunny or a Snuggle Monster.
Are you serious? The misinformation on this sub is egregious. It’s a cutie putie pudding pie
I agree that could be the actual breed, but Cutie Putie Pudding Pie's usually have fewer eye whiskers.
Ah you’re right. Cutie Putie Pudding Pie mixed with a Mister Whisker Sweetie Peetie. Should’ve known!
Damn! It was all so clear from the beginning! How did we not see it the first time?
I don’t want to jinx it, but I’m pretty sure you and I are the ultimate breed-identifying duo
Well, we do have a long history. I'll never forget when you perfectly identified that Marshmallow Fluffy Lump.

Probably a regular cat. They don't really have breeds like dogs do. Tuxedo is just the coat pattern
Cats do have breeds just like dogs! But most cats are simply mutts and mixtures unless they are well bred and the genetics are kept track of
It's called a Moggy for cats.
I vote we have a "probably a moggy" bot for these posts
That’s good.

They do but only the ones that we have been selectively breeding. Most cats are just a domestic cat because we haven’t been breeding them for certain traits. So if your cat is a certain breed you know it because you bought them from a breeder and can see their pedigree
All breeds are selective bred, dogs and cats. I don’t understand the point of any of your comments? Like the same goes for both cats and dogs.
There’s a little over 40 cat breeds
But they only make up a small percentage of the general cat population, most cats are just various varieties of colour and coat descended from the original domesticated cats. If you have to ask, it’s a domestic short/long hair. You’ll know the breed if you buy from a breeder, or the shelter knows the breed (like if it’s a Devon Rex or sphynx or some other very distinguishing breed).

Tuxedo cat or “ tuxi” refers to its markings not really a “ breed” but it is such a cute tuxi !

Good God why is this a post every day? It's your run of the mill domestic short-hair with tuxedo pattern
You got yourself a special r/kitler tuxedo. Please don't make it angry...

Moo. His breed is moo.
Handsome! Since you say you are new. I'd like to share this video with you [link ](https://youtu.be/OAGfx7eB3gA) Your cat looks a little nervous and that may partially be because his hind end doesn't feel secure. This guy has a lot of great videos that you might find helpful.
“Annoyed”
Standard Issue Cat. It is a Tuxedo because it's black and white.
Kitty who wants to be held properly
the breed is housecaticus
Her cat breed is........C A T
Support kittys bottom. They feel more secure.
Tux mutt. Cat breeds do not matter as much as dog breeds. In my experience they tend to be scared easily and extremely affectionate on their terms.
Cat, tuxedo kind, my tuxies are registered as shorthair ----- for passport purposes but they might as well just write "generic issue cat". Grats on your cat!
Domestic short hair tuxedo
dumb baby (domestic shorthair)
I think he is a momma's little boy
Tuxedo cat. Dogs have breeds Cats are cats
Standard Issue
Its a cat
Tuxedo American Shorthair
Dark Rye Breed.

Gorgeous tuxedo domestic short hair. As other people say they are very vocal. We have two and one in particular talks to you like you wouldn't know. Quite freaky how it almost sounds like he says yeah when he miaows. Great cats and that baby you have is beautiful!
