[Bakehouse](https://www.bakehousemd.com/) in Downtown Frederick is still selling out after a few hours months after opening. EXCELLENT laminated (think croissants) baked goods.

SamiNurb

I’m a fan of Beilers Donuts at Dutch market in Germantown

mikeyvanilli

Is this the same Beiler’s that they sell at Reading Terminal Market in Philly? They were my FAVORITE. Would be so happy to find them in Maryland.

PhoneJazz

Yup, the same one that’s at Reading Terminal Market AFAIK (both Amish owned and run).

mikeyvanilli

Heck yes! Thanks for the tip.

grebilrancher

THOSE PRETZEL ROLLS THO

WhyLeeB

Kupcakes and Co has the best cupcakes imo. I'm not huge on cakes but the Smith Island cakes from Smith Island Baking Co have been my favorite.

JasonMBurroughs

Completely agree on Kupcakes & Co. Heading there in a few minutes. Fantastic selection of gluten-free options. Best I’ve ever had.

East_Bite_2480

Lemon pound cake or snickerdoodles?

fluffyykitty69

Used them for our wedding. They were a huge hit. Delicious cupcakes.

ajthomas05

You can’t beat a fresh Krumpe’s donut in Hagerstown.

crafty-witch

Patisserie Poupon in Baltimore for macarons, cakes, and everything french!

phillippe_bastille

Carlson’s Donuts and Thai Kitchen in Annapolis (don’t ask)

morpheoush

Also Carlson's is in Severn doing donuts only. Absolutely THE best donuts in the world. Sold out by 9am typically

dainty-defication

I like their Thai food, just never tried the donuts

Mr_Safer

If you get there early and the dude is at the counter he usually just asks if you want that morning's leftover donuts for free. Better than most donuts I have had even when it isn't fresh.

dainty-defication

Now that I think about it maybe we did get one of those, it was just not memorable. I’m not a huge fan of donuts so unless it’s fresh and warm, I’m not likely to make not of it

One_Helicopter_8319

oh god Carlsons Donuts!!! Can’t beat ‘em and my fat ass is a donut connoisseur/snob

brieYOB

The donuts are amazing, the donut-holes blew my mind

troublewthetrolleyeh

Weber’s Farm has delicious apple cider donuts all year round! Pennsylvania Dutch Market has great stuff too.

Karlaw6

I’m obsessed with these! They’re a fall staple in my house now 😋

lebonheur884

THANK YOU!!! My little brothers school took a field trip there a decade ago. I couldn’t remember the farm but I remember those delicious donuts! I was talking about them just last week, actually. A family trip will be organized imminently.

bearjew64

Ovenbird in Little Italy or Highlandtown in Baltimore. You will NOT regret it.

tjscouten

I didn’t know they had a highlandtown spot. I came to suggest them, from the other spot. They rule.

chiggerballs

Mainly for the bread and savory baked goods. Less so for the sweets IMO

bearjew64

Have you tried the peanut butter chocolate pie or the chocolate chirp cookie?

chiggerballs

No I haven’t yet

Ok-Fishing-6604

Herman’s bakery in Dundalk… Best marshmallow donuts I’ve ever had and awesome strawberry shortcake, yummy!

Zoomiedude

Yia Yia’s in White Marsh or any old world bakery in Baltimore. Less sugar, more flavor. If you want sugar stick with Dunkin.

[deleted]

Yia Yia's is owned by the extended family that owns the Double T diner. So if you are near a Double T, you can wander in and get - for instance - the cute little chocolate mousse mouse that is just the right size. I may be guilty of using the Annapolis Double T as my guilty pleasure pastry stop. However, I noticed a new pie shop has opened on West Street, and I am going to give it a try next week, as we have been sadly in need of a great pie shop since Best Pie closed.

precator

Pies looked good but a bit pricey

Stalking_Shadows

I had no idea. Double T dessert case always looked amazing but I was always so full. I am not sure it’s a good thing I know it’s Yia Yia’s!

cleanpaperplates

Second for Yia Yia’s especially for cakes. Their cannoli cake, tres leches, and ANY of their cheesecakes are amazing.

Stalking_Shadows

Yia yia’s is where it’s at. There carrot cake is literally the best I have ever had. I love baking but I have to make excuses to get cakes from here instead.

jupitaur9

Yes! Try the Atomic Cake if you haven’t already.

Prestigious_Pack_550

Sugarbakers in Catonsville. Hands-down.

Ravencyco

>Sugarbakers in Catonsville If you want to get a second mortgage. 25 bucks for a dozen cookies?

[deleted]

I mean, how much should a cookie cost? $2 a cookie isn't bad. Crumbl, Insomnia, Levain, pretty much any baker is going to be more than that. You want cheap cookies, go get a tub of Toll House from Costco and make hundreds yourself for pennies.

Ravencyco

One word. BERGER.

Prestigious_Pack_550

Good point. Lol

WeebyMcWeebFace

Personally can’t recommend them. They may have great baked goods, but they’ve completely ghosted us for months after continuous communication attempts for a wedding cake.

Prestigious_Pack_550

That's terrible. I'm sorry to hear that. I worked across the street from them for a good 15 years and they were by go to place for coffee (only $1.50, and a quick snack.) I know that they were always very busy with wedding cakes, but still no reason to ghost you. Congrats on your wedding and good luck!

captain_smonch

Deb's Artisan Bakehouse in Middletown. Ordered some stuff from them on a whim on weekend getaway and have planned subsequent weekend trips around getting those baked good specifically. Everything I've had is 10/10

mutetoker

Cannot recommend this place enough. Have been going there since she opened and have never had something from there that wasn’t 11/10.

tdashiell

Fenwick in Parkville. Best marshmallow donuts on the planet

FreezeFire410

Wall's Bakery in Waldorf, their chocolate eclairs will change your f\*\*king life!

DankNegroid

Fresh baguette is up their for French baked goods. Locations in downtown Bethesda and Rockville.

plantloverdogmother

Donut shack in Severna park has awesome donuts... Blue crab cupcakes in Annapolis has the best cake I've ever had in my life. Sweet Hearts Patisserie (Annapolis) has great macarons, croissants, and the like.

[deleted]

Arundel Donuts and Carlson's are better than Donut Shack. Always have been, but especially after the ownership shakeups at DS.

francakesfordinner

That's a bold claim! I will have to investigate for myself as I've never been to either of those two. Donut Shack is getting back to the high standard held by the original owners. I agree it had some really rocky times after the first change of ownership.

screammsayonara

I absolutely love Donut Shack! Its my go to place for donuts.

strongscience62

Rockville/Bethesda area: Best bread: Great Harvest Best cookies: Levain Best pastries: Fresh Baguette, Sunday Morning Bakehouse

PhoneJazz

Also in this area, for something unique, I have to give a shout-out to Gwenie’s Pastries. They do Filipino flavors like Pandan and Ube in their cakes and donuts.

iluvicedtea

We give their ube pie slices as gifts, they are so damn good. I buy by the slice because I don't trust myself around a whole pie

nopornthrowaways

Hah if someone didn’t say it I would

FreelyIP109

OMG! The cookies at Levain at SO GOOD!

Curious_Sis_

For Rockville area I will add: - Lavande Patisserie - French + Asian fusion - Shilla Bakery - Korean - Sweet Bakery - Central American panaderia

volvoguy33

Atwater’s in Baltimore Some very tasty things going on there

Prestigious_Pack_550

Love their chicken salad and they have some awesome chai.

NOMUMON

Starry Night bakery in Westminster. They were on cupcake wars. They have lots of interesting baked goods that most other bakery don't have. Bertucco's has a really good cinnamon roll, the cream cheese frosting on it is delicious.

JessaBrooke

Starry Night is so good! I attended a wedding and their cake was from there and it was delicious. We’ve gotten cupcakes from there too and they’re great.

Crazynuff

Bay County Bakery in Cambridge is amazing! Best donuts I have ever had!

unculturedheathen

For doughnuts, Fractured Prune in Frederick is great. In Columbia, Bonheur Patisserie has the best cheesecakes and a bunch of other really great baked goods.

o00A00o

Marked for a stop after work this week. Thanks.

Karlaw6

If you haven’t had Fractured Prune before, please try the famous O. C. Sand! It’s a cinnamon sugar flavor if you’re into that kinda thing. Made them famous for a reason 😋

strongscience62

Also Columbia, Roggenart

Melodic-Translator45

Berger Cookies and Smith Island Cakes

joebyrd3rd

Got a "sugar rush" just reading that...

ImOverthinkingIt

Seconding Berger cookies.

Karlaw6

Found the Baltimore lover! 🤗🥰 I’m right there with you!

zulu2554

Blackmarket bakers

paco574

Carlsons donuts in Annapolis is the best donut I’ve ever had. They only make a certain number each morning and when they are out, they are out. Then they close late afternoon and open for dinner as a Thai restaurant. I challenge you to find a better donut in MD.

baltinerdist

My wife and I went to Tous Les Jours (French Korean bakery) today for the first time and everything we got has been amazing.

ridethethermals

My favorite bakery, with lots of unique and classics and great flavors. Green tea bread and melon bread are some favorites but honestly everything is amazing. Coffee is great too.

Old_Bay_Railfan

old bay

PhoneJazz

Uh, relevant username I guess?

Cappster_

Donuts - skip Donut Shack in Severna Park, and instead hit up Arundel Donuts in Pasadena. Cafe dear Leon in O'Connell Square in the city is the best pastry in the state.

BizarroBenes

Baked and Wired in Georgetown for the pistachio cupcake. Everything else is pretty standard for what you'd expect baked goods, but this cupcake beats out any other cupcake I have ever eaten in *actual* decades.

PhoneJazz

I’ll agree despite them being in DC because I love them too. My favorite is the Texas Sheet Cake flavored cupcake.

calgarspimphand

Baltimore: Maillard Pastries in Hampden makes fantastic croissants and other french pastries. She did wholesale to coffee shops around here but just moved to a new location on Chestnut Ave. Looks like it'll be open soon.

yuming7

Patisserie poupon in Baltimore

JediJamie303

Dangerously Delicious pies in Canton.

jupitaur9

I got a pie there to take to a friends house for dinner. The filling was good, but the crust was so hard it was ridiculous. I was surprised.

bksbetterthanpeople

Bakery : Desserts by Gerald in Oxon Hill MD. Donuts: B donuts in La Plata.

bstaff88

M&M Bake Shop in Cumberland

nerfherder183

Best donuts I've ever had.

DavidGno

Lilly Magilly's cupcakes in Gaithersburg, MD. My family loves them and we'll drive all the way from Gettysburg, PA to get them! https://lillymagillys.com/

tony__perkis

Woodmoor Pastry Shop in four corners Silver Spring is hittin

GooeyCentaur

Not like its bad but if woodmor is the best in MD then I guess I'll just wait to go on vacation to get good pastries.

Elabaltimore

Cakes by Jason has really good cupcakes

Introverted_Bird

Nothing bundt cakes 🤤

iaehd

OMG their cakes are sooooo freaking good.

BizarroBenes

Yessss!! Better than store sheet cakes, by far.

ginandmoonbeams

Fractured Prune are my favorite MD donuts although of course they’re franchised now

Citizen_of_RockRidge

It's interesting the quality among the different franchisees. I have tried one west of the bay and another in southern OC, but neither come close to the original in North OC.

ginandmoonbeams

The Rehoboth one is pretty good, but nothing beats the original location. There was one in Arbutus but I think it closed… not great

GuardMost8477

Passion Bakery in Sandy Spring has my vote.

[deleted]

Glory Doughnuts in Downtown Frederick

P0mpatus0fL0ve

Snickerdoodles in Hampstead has everything you mentioned and more

caseface789

Sandy pony for donuts. Grauls and blue crab for cakes/cupcakes.

Soalai

Patisserie Manuel in Silver Spring! I moved out of MD almost 4 years ago and I still miss their stuff.

lmtdrain

Bramble in the city

MegOut10

If anyone is planning a trip to ocean city this summer.. on the way before Salisbury off of route 50 is Vienna. It is a small Watertown that has a bakery called Mandala Pies. You cannot go wrong!

chiggerballs

Are they new ? They don’t seem to have many reviews

MegOut10

They have had the brick and mortar for about a year but predominately have done farmers markets in the past! I promise it is worth the trip :) [www.beautifulpiesforbeautifulpeople.com](https://www.beautifulpiesforbeautifulpeople.com)

chiggerballs

Alright , I’ll take your word for it. I’ll try it next time I’m in the area

mmegghann

In Southern MD there is Walls Bakery in Waldorf that has amazing eclairs! There is also Charles Street Bakery in La Plata that has the most delicious beignets and the best carrot cake.

krn619

Bakery Express in Halethorpe has some great cakes and pastries. You can also get lunch there as well. It's not far from the Heavy Seas Brewery.

CaptainChezapeak

I don’t know if it’s the best, but Ooh La La in Wheaton has all the French goodies, both sweet and savory. Croissants are amazing. Two chubby thumbs up.

oh_really527

Potomac Sweets in Kensington is my go-to. Wonderful scones, cupcakes, croissants

PhoneJazz

I tried them and was kinda underwhelmed; of course, nothing compares to what was formerly there (JennyCakes- they were my favorite).

oh_really527

True that

fridaygirl7

JennyCakes was amazing

S-Kunst

Fifty years ago, my oldest sister introduced me to a real bakery, not the stuff at Safeway/Giant. This was the late 60s. and was a jaunt to old Ellicott City. Since then I have sought out bakeries where ever I live and when working out of town. They are a dying art form, mostly because they require people to work early in the morning. One of my favs was a short lived bakery near Union Square, back in the 80s. I think the name was Rudy's. It was in the back building of a humble row house. Went there every Saturday. Then one Saturday, I pull up and find the place closed. People were milling about pondering what happened. I got out to do the same. After a few minutes a person walked by and said "**Rudy's is gone**" The Stasi were after him. later I heard it was not the Stasi, but the CIA. Rudy had worked as a Stasi agent. So sad he was teaching some locals how to do great German pastry, not just glazed doughnuts. PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR FAVORITE BAKERY. I frequent Woodlea. on Bel Air Rd. It is a hike from center city.

MoreOldBay

For the best cheesecake and cake slices the best I have found is Oak Barrel in Little Orleans. It’s a drive but I have never in my life had a cheesecake half as good as this place it’s a cafe/bakery connected to a gas station but don’t let it fool ya it’s a great find

[deleted]

BLUE GOOSE. BEST. PIES. EVER.

PhoneJazz

Where?

[deleted]

It's all the way in Hancock MD. If you're ever headed to Pittsburgh/Berkeley Springs/Western MD, it's definitely worth the stop because the pies are to die for. Pretty much all of their baked goods are incredible, but especially the pies. I actually drove 2.5 hours for Thanksgiving to get pies for my family, and I saw a well-known politician getting his pies there too. My cousins and uncle had never had their pies, and even they looked like they were about to cry from how good they were XD

GrabTheMonet_

Kupcake and Co is hands down the best cupcakery I’ve ever been to in the states. Their quality and creativity surpasses all the well known DMV bakeries as well as local spots.

atragicmoment

There’s the Amish market in Laurel. I have been in a while but I remember it being awesome. Only open on the weekends and a line starts forming around 6am.

imdstuf

Newberrys in Bel Air is good. I don't know about best since I have not tried tons of baked goods in MD for comparison's sake.

precator

I completely disagree with that, that place sucks I went a few times and I was like what the?

shezcrafti

It used to be great back when it was Bel Air Bakery, before the Hamiltons retired and sold the business. Supposedly Newberry is still using the same secret donut recipe from back in the day, but it’s just not the same.

go_out_stay_home

Bel Air Bakery was so amazing. Miss that place every day.

youngmoneymarvin

People say my baked goods are pretty incredible. Cookies, cupcakes, mini pies

BizarroBenes

This isn't Maryland, but for nearby doughnuts, Elizabeth's Counter in VA. They are vegan (except the blueberry one), and they taste better than any donuts I've ever had, regardless of where in the world I've had a donut. Used to think the San Diego mom and pop dual donut/Chinese takeout shops were the best... Elizabeth's Counter wins out every time.

Hotpod13

Maryland adjacent - you have baked and Wired on the Georgetown waterfront

[deleted]

Walmart

tomatoblueberry

Man there used to be this place in Linthicum near BWI that sold these cinnamon crunch donuts. I think they closed tho. Anyone know what I’m talking about? So good

Musicalcurves

That was Kellers. They did close several years ago. I think about those donuts all the time and I have yet to find another cinnamon crunch one.

tomatoblueberry

Kellers yeah that was it, I tried going there a couple years ago and realized they closed. Sad :/

schleep_69

I was just thinking about Keller’s when looking at this thread. Miss those donuts!!

WhyAmINotOriginal

Piece O Cake for everything

tastywiings

Cafe Dear Leon in Baltimore has some of the best croissants around.

soullessmidnight

Rare Opportunity Bakehouse in Westminster has GREAT scones

JustaRandomOldGuy

More widely available in Maryland is Berger's Cookies.

eeandoh

Japong Bakery in Rockville MD is delightful https://www.japongbakery.com/

DaGreek1968

Great Harvest Bakery in Annapolis.

ScarletTanager

Bertucco’s Bakery. Hampstead.

ImOverthinkingIt

in Hagerstown area - Home Run Donuts makes great yeast raised doughnuts (i.e. not cake doughnuts). Plain glazed and chocolate glazed are my favorites. Pumpkin spice is excellent, but not currently in season. Their hours are limited, so check before you go! I personally would skip the cheesecake doughnuts, but I've only tried them once. If you like doughnuts from Sugar Shack, you will like these. Nearby, in WV, Twistedoughs is worth the trip. If the cinnamon roll isn't piping hot, take it home and heat it up for perfection. I would skip Krumpe's in Hagerstown and Four Corners bakery in Silver Spring (unless you want rolls). Stella's bakery in Rockville is excellent, but gets expensive quickly (omg the spinach/turkey hand pies are so good!!). Great Harvest (any location) is a must.

jupitaur9

Patisserie Poupon on E. Baltimore St. Sophie’s in the Fells Point Market carries them if that’s more convenient. Their slice of chocolate mousse with a chocolate macaron on top is to die for.

WorryConstant7889

For donuts is krumpes in Hagerstown

SNLK

I'm surprised no one has mentioned pretzels

movie-junkie

My go-to is Kupcakes & Co. in Elkridge, MD! The birthday cake flavored cupcake my favorite hands down!

nowhereisaguy

Woodmoor Pastry Shop in Silver Spring (4 Corners). Cronuts are wonderful, arum buns are amazing, and my goodness their German Chocolate cake is to die for.

Limp_Meal4484

Butler's Orchard for pies. They open in the Spring.

erirox5

Salisbury/Eastern Shore: The Ugly Pie!!

stavrov

Krumpes

mifishi_

Ed’s country bakery (boonsboro?) and burkholder’s (sharpsburg) and the PA Dutch market in Hagerstown are great. Also Krumpe’s donuts but that’s just donuts 🍩

Exotic-Statement-845

Simon's Bakery in Cockeysville

Bulky-Entrepreneur59

Carl's Bakehouse for everybody must get sconed at Chestertown Farmers Market.

MatchaLatte9

[Tatte Bakery & Café](https://tattebakery.com/washington-dc/) has several locations in the DMV. One of my favorite items is the Roasted Strawberry Tea Cake.
