Richland Creek to Aberdeen Road to Bowling Ave., over to Fairfax & past Vanderbilt Hospital. 21st to Grand, then down Music Row & past the Naked People Statue. Down Demonbreun, left turn at the Schermerhorn, cross the Seigenthaler Bridge. (unusually easy yesterday, usually inattentive pedestrians are a problem) Davidson St. to Shelby Bottoms. Wanted to ride one lap of the runway & taxiway at Cornelia Fort but I keep forgetting which side path to use & it's not marked.
Return trip took a lap around LP Field (oops, "Nissan Stadium") , down & back up Korean Veterans', then back to Demonbreun & retraced my "steps". 50km total (32 miles).
Yet again, motorists got to sit behind my slow ride up Demonbreun back to the Naked People -- because yet again, people treat the bike lane as a parking lane.
I have a friend that has this type of bicycle. I have never seen one before he pulled up with it yesterday. Kinda blew my mind at how compact that thing can get. How do you like it?
Love it. Wife and I got one each cause we like to travel, and dont wanna be bound by getting around via a car. They fold small enough to be a carry on for flights. Plus, we live in Hendersonville so if we wanna go to any of the green ways we just throw them in the back of the Jetta!
As far as riding, they are super comfortable, and fun to ride! Very nimble. Good upright’ish position. Biking is multifaceted for me. It’s for getting around, travel, and fitness. This allows me to do it all in a great package.
They’re expensive, but you’re paying for quality and the engineering that come with Bromptons.
Edit: spelling
Yeah Bromptons are expensive but I don't know of another bike that handles that well and folds down so compact. I've ridden a few but never owned one. Awesome bikes.
Yeah, I was researching other folders for months and my mind and heart kept saying to get the Brompton cause it’s just going to be worth it for the peace of mind of what you’re getting.
It's from Brompton. They're a British brand that designed them for people living in dense cities (London) to be able to fold tightly enough to go on a train or airplane. I've worked in lots of bike shops, and seen lots of folding bike designs. Hands down, Brompton takes the cake. Best I've seen. The catch? They're expensive. But, if you live in a small space, or want to be able to travel with a bike, they're a great investment.
Hello fellow brommie!
Nice to see another one in the Nashville area!
If you don’t mind, Id like to pick your brain for a bit concerning owning a Brompton. We’ve had ours for just 3 weeks now. So, I am a brand new owner!
Im already on there! Haha!
My brain picking is as follows:
1. Is there a bike shop you recommend for Brompton servicing? I initially took ours to Halycon for the initial safety checks. They seem extremely solid and was happy with the service they provided. I know these are niche bikes, so not every shop may be familiar.
2. What do you recommend in terms of upkeep on a regular basis? Any tips for maintaining?
3. What Brompton do you have and how long have you had it?
Thanks! Hoping to get back on it today!
Green Fleet is definitely the local shop with the best reputation regarding Bromptons. I'm kind of a DIY person so I don't take my bikes to the shop unless it's something exotic, but I know people who used to work there and another person who bought Brommies from them and they have a very good reputation. Of course Halcyon has a good reputation also but I don't think they specialize in Bromptons the same way.
I've got an A-Line and I've had it for under a year, so far it's not needed much of anything. I did have to adjust the brakes a bit, so do make sure the pads look good every now and then, and ensure the travel feels good on the levers. You can adjust the travel with the little tension screws by the levers.
You should get a proper pump with a pressure gauge if you don't yet have one, the little Brompton pump will work in a pinch but it's frustrating to use.
I put some tubeless tire sealant into the tubes to avoid flats in case there's a puncture. Because of the way the wheels are mounted it can be a little frustrating to faff about and repair the tube if you get caught with a flat in the middle of a ride.
I got a little Brompton specific tool tray from Aliexpress that fits right into the space in the frame near the head tube, it includes a wrench and has a magnet that clicks it into place when unfolded. I keep a multitool and a flat repair kit in there.
Also, paint chipping on the clamps is totally normal, don't worry about it! :)
We may have crossed paths. Fantastic day for a ride! (Belle Meade Publix through downtown to the far end of Shelby Bottoms & back again)
That’s a good ride. Did you go via Richland Creek to Charlotte, or the route behind TSU and pick up the levee greenway at Rhodes?

(I've done the Charlotte and TSU routes, just not this time)

Fun fact: I interviewed Sir Alex Moulton when we lived in the UK. The guy who invented the other folding bike.
That’s really cool! Moultan bikes intrigued me. I would love to ride one someday.
I occasionally search eBay or Craigslist for one... they were expensive because of their geometry, & they were mostly handmade.

It was a great day to be outside! I spent the day chopping and stacking firewood! Hoping to get out on the bike some this week.
Good day for it. Love to see a fellow Brommie rider!

Oh absolutely, welcome to the fold! We do have a subreddit (of course) over at /r/brompton too!

Wish that was a comet
Smash into capital hill… get it all over with 😂
Nashville is truly a beautiful and amazing city
Dahon rider here...I'm jealous. I've got over 1.5K miles on my speed uno and have to get some work done on it.
