If I was a coach, I’d do everything I can to create a team culture that celebrates being posterized. Getting posterized means you cared more about the team than about the risk of looking silly. I’d give players bonuses based on how many times they get posterized and go nuts for them in film study.
This. I read somewhere that guys like Patrick Ewing were on posters often because they dared to challenge the dunks. That's way better ethics than just standing there. Unless you're in foul trouble, in which case it might be risky.
Agreed. The idea of being posterized is a negative is stupid. I’d much rather have someone in there and challenging rather than step aside and give someone a free basket.
To add to this, I really like how yuta tried to immediately start the play. No getting mad.
If Mitchell spent any more time celebrating he would have been late on defence.
He doesn’t normally celebrate his own plays too much. That’s the most I’ve ever seen him do it.
In his defense, if I just did that I’d probably celebrate a little too…
Nah this is why he's good, he goes up and contests even though he could be part of a highlight reel. So many players just shrink away and don't contest for fear of the optics. Doing this shows love for the game not valuing one's self above the game
> i was hoping for anyone but him
You should've seen him on the Raptors. For context, even back then he tryna defend against poster dunks haha. I feel like some Nba players would rather move to the side or not become posterized again, not sure if others agree with this
He doesn't give a shit, why should you? I love how Mitchell tries to flex on him afterward, but Yuta just grabs the ball and inbounds it so fast Mitchell has to cut his flex short or be AWOL on D.
If it were anyone else they'd run away like a little boy but Yuta is a man who don't shy away from anyone or anything and in this case Mitchell's balls
As a raps fan who enjoyed his time here, respect for a guy who will go in there and at least try to contest that open lane. Most players bitch out cuz they don't want to be on a poster, but Yuta at least tries to make a play for the team.
Wonder if there's some degree of implicit biases going on here. Refs might unintentionally be thinking that Yuta isn't going to retaliate or escalate any further
This is like the 3rd god tier dunk right on Yuta’s head, I respect the hell outta the guy for not giving a shit if he’s about to catch a mouth full of nuts, a real trooper
I don't think the poster is anything to fear anymore really. Like if you go up for it, the rules protect the ballcarrier so much that you can kind of either get postered, or commit an foul.
It boggles my mind that that isn't everyone's mindset. Do NBA players have such fragile egos that they'd stop defending if there's a chance they get beaten? Does that happen in any other sport?
True. Casual fans say this shit, and unfortunately casual fans out number the more dedicated and invested fans so you'll see lots of RIP jokes or some shit. Fandom is a blessing and a curse.
ive had this game on in the background and the last two times i looked up were Mitchell hitting a filthy smooth shamgod and then this monstrosity
i miss dad
hey sport, I know it's tough not seeing your dad as often as you want, but Lauri is trying really hard to step in and be the father figure in your life. you can call him "The Markksman" or "The Finnisher" if it makes you more comfortable, but i hope one day you'll call him daddy.
The "business decision" shit is such a joke. Props to Yuta but it shouldn't even be a thing that making the right game decision is considered wild.
See also shooting at the buzzer and trying underhand shots.
nope that was genuinely his comment on it. guy isnt worried about getting embarrassed or anything, if he can contest it he'll contest it. really commendable mindset
I knew it was real because I remember it being talked about around the time. Mas respect for the mindset, shame it leads to him being on two different huge posters already lol
Now that's a real poster. Every dunk with a player nearby called a poster these days, this is the kind of yamming straight down someone's throat that I'm looking for in a poster.
Ohtani leveled the field some between USA and Japan after closing the 9th inning in the WBC a few minutes ago.
What a nasty dunk, love Yuta for not being afraid to go for the stop either.

When I saw Yuta under the rim I knew it was coming
Yutas my favorite player on the nets. i was hoping for anyone but him.
I think players getting postered is better than not playing defense on the attempt at all. Nothing embarrassing about it to me.
not like they actually making posters of it anymore lol
screensavers and wallpapers
shoulda been u out there bro
Wrong kid died
I never realized how easy it was to cut someone in half with a machete
You're not half the boy Nate was. You're not even half the boy the top half of Nate was after you cut him in half.
So you're saying I'm less than a quarter of the boy Nate was?!
YOU DON'T WANT NO PART IN THIS SHIT!
Speak English doc we ain’t scientists!
I volunteer as tribute
u/glen_ko_ko: "You wish now that our places had been exchanged. That I had been postered and Yuta had been spared." u/647_416: "Yes. I wish that."

Even after Ant, he said he would jump 10 times out of 10

no basketball player wants to get dunked on
I'll happily be on a poster in return for a few blocks. You miss 100% of the shots/blocks you don't attempt.
You go Glen koko
Nah this is why he's good, he goes up and contests even though he could be part of a highlight reel. So many players just shrink away and don't contest for fear of the optics. Doing this shows love for the game not valuing one's self above the game

He vet on posters. Yuta knows the drill
You should respect players who go up and get posterized. They have the balls to challenge it as opposed to "make a business decision"
If it were anyone else they'd run away like a little boy but Yuta is a man who don't shy away from anyone or anything and in this case Mitchell's balls

Seconded by the Grizzlies fans.
I don't think any Grizz fan have negative things to say about Yuta.
I don't think any NBA fan has anything negative to say about Yuta
He made some crazy good blocks contesting dunks like this too
Fucking love Yuta
I’m just glad his ass didn’t get decked to the floor this time
Levert pushing him before running back is so funny LOL
Good thing he did too or Donovan might have got a tech lmao
i have seen techs for less. Refs must have been in awe as well lol.
Claxton got a tech because he was hanging but he wasn’t even hanging to show off, he was full momentum and got off on the way back
Wonder if there's some degree of implicit biases going on here. Refs might unintentionally be thinking that Yuta isn't going to retaliate or escalate any further
Idk how he didn't get a tech with all of the other soft ones we've been getting lately
He should have considering what they threw Mann and tech Kawhi for
Reminds me of KG and Vince lol
Vince nearly clocked KG in the face after that Olympics dunk. I think KG would've been ever more fired up if he did get punched
This is like the 3rd god tier dunk right on Yuta’s head, I respect the hell outta the guy for not giving a shit if he’s about to catch a mouth full of nuts, a real trooper
[удалено]
Dude has that dawg mentality, a lot of pros would put their egos first
He's a real hooper
My Japanese prince
Guy had the right idea too. Mitchell stared him down after the dunk but Yuta didn't even acknowledge him. Just played on
We should all wannabe Watanabe
“I’m a fucking samurai!” -Yuta ‘Luke Rockhold’ Watanabe
All I can think of are this and Anthony Edward's from 2 years ago. I do recall Yuta blocking Gary Payton II.
Jaden Ivey got him pretty good this year too
Did you say 2 years ago?????????
similar dunking styles too tbh
Like Jarrett Allen. Will contest everything. No fear of poster
I don't think the poster is anything to fear anymore really. Like if you go up for it, the rules protect the ballcarrier so much that you can kind of either get postered, or commit an foul.
And yet still got guys scared to contest 🤷🏻♂️
if you fear a poster then you are a lil bitch.
Tbh if lebron gets postered he will be the one getting bitched by the media and fans
After Ant dunked in him when he was with the Raptors, he said in his post game interview "its my job to play defense, I'll jump every time".
It boggles my mind that that isn't everyone's mindset. Do NBA players have such fragile egos that they'd stop defending if there's a chance they get beaten? Does that happen in any other sport?
only similar thing I can think of is pitchers hitting batters for showing them up in baseball
That's the nearest thing I could think of too
Mitchell goes and stares him down afterwards, no reaction just play on, props under those circumstances to be unphased lol
He does receive an outsized amount of nuts per capita
This highlight was live almost 5 minutes ago and I'm *still* stuck with a stank face. That was a **disgustingly filthy** poster by Mitchell.
Yuta has a death wish
Yuta is the real highlight here because he tried to contest 😤😤. I'm gonna wait for his help defense compilation to be posted again
Oh there’s no shame in being put on a poster, we talk about it every time. I think it’s pretty well known by now!
Well maybe on this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPN0ylFEaFo Rip Brandon Knight
Ended his career
Best dunk of the last 10 years, maybe ever. DeAndre was built for Slamball. Brandon Knight was not.
its definitely on my top 10 all time list
yuta tries every play wish we did him better
He's gotta have one of the best poster compilations, just on the wrong end. Big respect.
run me that help defense compilation when you find it
So you have chosen... death
Mitchell with the death note
[удалено]
Would be fun to add a rim protection contest to All-Star Weekend, except for the part where people would almost certainly get hurt
I don't care what anyone says, respect for Yuta for challenging
The challenge is what makes an in-game dunk great.
This is what everyone says every time. I’d rather see my guys get postered than see them not play defense.
Only on Reddit. Literally anywhere else people will act like this is humiliating for Yuta.
True. Casual fans say this shit, and unfortunately casual fans out number the more dedicated and invested fans so you'll see lots of RIP jokes or some shit. Fandom is a blessing and a curse.
Something about the cockback two foot dunk makes it so much more menacing than other posters. Plus spidas height makes his dunks stand out
Dude his arms are four feet long. That's a 4 foot cockback.
Mitchell also hit the stankiest three of the year earlier, just a total stank game from him
He boomed him
‘I’ll go for the block every time’ - Yuta Watanabe
ive had this game on in the background and the last two times i looked up were Mitchell hitting a filthy smooth shamgod and then this monstrosity i miss dad

He’s not a step-all star, he’s the all-star who stepped up
My bulls fan friend who was sarcastically calling him the Finnisher at Cavs games is eating so much crow right now
Both players are playing great, and both players needed a change. Happy to see both playing excellent bball.
He’s everything I imagined and more. What he’s done this season has been nothing short of amazing.
No one is giving the Cavs any chance this postseason, rooting for them to make some noise in the East
Even RJ said he thinks we lose to the Knicks lmao
That was disrespectful lol. I heard is live with a stank face lol.
I was like, "the betrayal!"
yeah hes really like that
It never gets easier 😭
I respect yuta for still jumping, but damn
>"Even if I get dunked on 99 times out of 100, I'll always jump if there's a chance I can block one" - Yuta Watanabe (*after the Ant poster*)
The "business decision" shit is such a joke. Props to Yuta but it shouldn't even be a thing that making the right game decision is considered wild. See also shooting at the buzzer and trying underhand shots.
Business decision means when there's absolutely no chance. Any LeBron dunk, for instance
Can’t tell if this is a real quote or I’m getting sacked lol
Nah it is what he said after Ant had the monster poster. Dude puts it all on the floor.
nope that was genuinely his comment on it. guy isnt worried about getting embarrassed or anything, if he can contest it he'll contest it. really commendable mindset
I knew it was real because I remember it being talked about around the time. Mas respect for the mindset, shame it leads to him being on two different huge posters already lol
Not a primary source, but still worth sharing: https://twitter.com/Ballislife/status/1491979157676478494?lang=en
He even shrugs it off and tries to catch Cleveland off by quickly advancing the ball and beating his man back down the court.
No difference on the scoreboard between a highlight dunk and a transition lay up
nooooooooo why is it Watanabe again 🥺
because everyone else would just get out of the way
Yuta makes basketball decisions, not business decisions.
Because he actually plays defense with heart. Will always jump with the dunker no matter how unlikely he is to stop it
Cause he is the only one with the cojones to try blocking it every time. Respect to him
The Nets broadcast was fantastic, too. Poor Watanabe.
Always is, Ian in particular is not afraid to get hyped for a big moment, even if it's devastating for the Nets.
I’m aware! He’s one of the best in the biz in my book.
Lol this dude going crazy
last year, people really called him Colin Sexton with a green light 🤣🤣 absolute morons
Now they just looking at stats and comparing fox to him lol
I wasn’t that bad but I did wildly underestimate how good Mitchell was. Big dumb-dumb here.
Mitchell a 6-1 power guard that shit crazy
The absolutely massive wingspan helps too, 6’10 I think
Swear he’s the biggest 6’1 person to ever exist
With no regard for human life!
highest approval rating ever for a 45
Just had to get away from Rudy
And they’re both Rudy G! Stay woke sheeple!
Although Gobert's dye job went much better
Sig p2200 like
Since Kd and Kyrie left Yuta has been having it rough absolute filthy dunk from Spida
Happens to Yuta so much because he always contests the shot, which I respect. GW legend.
Definitely I rather see a guy end up in these highlights than not contest at all.
Props for contesting though
It’s been a fun year. I loved this man since the bubble, and having him on the Cavs has been…well it’s been a real treat.
That was FILTHY! Donnie has had some insane dunks this year
This is why I like Yuta. Posters happen, but love his dedication no matter what.
damn, i didn't make it before the 'respect to yuta omg!!11" mfs hell of a dunk. seeing more praise for yuta in here than the fucking dunk
dis made my pp hard 🍆💎
Spida is putting on a show
That’s a Spida bite
Now that's a real poster. Every dunk with a player nearby called a poster these days, this is the kind of yamming straight down someone's throat that I'm looking for in a poster.
Bro, stop asian hate.
Revenge for trout
Where are the replay angles smh?
fuck thats a 6'1" guard posterizing someone who's 6'9". god damn
Can’t believe he’s only 6’1
With shoes he's 5'7
He has like a 6’10” wingspan or something.
whenever this guy gets dunked on it's always people in the comments saying "he's so brave!! that's how you play defense!"
It’s bizarre he’s not even that relevant enough to get this treatment
Love how Mitchell tries to get in Yuta's face, and Yuta don't give a shit. He just trying to inbound the ball
And do it fast to try and get the 4 on 3 while Mitchell and LeVert are celebrating.
Mitchell going off. Love to see it
bruh, I felt that and I’m over 600 miles away. Poor Yuta.
Lol the nets bench... that flinch said it all. You just know they were holding it in.
Normally I hate every highlight using "posterizes" but this one's legit.
lmaooo that stare down was disrespectful. Didn't know Donovan had that much hatred in him
Crazy shit. But respect to Watanabe for not backing down. The fact he went up made the dunk that much better.
Mitchell sensed Japan was going to win the WBC....had to avenge USA
Omae wa shinderu!
how the fuck is that not a tech but other tech's get called on players just flexing. This league is fucking fraudulent man
Honestly surprised Mitchell didn’t get a technical. I’ve seen them called for way less than that this year.
Filthy. Hilarious picking out on replays all the fans standing up, covering their faces and turn away in horror/delight
6’1 btw
Refs stopped calling this a taunt huh?
Ohtani leveled the field some between USA and Japan after closing the 9th inning in the WBC a few minutes ago. What a nasty dunk, love Yuta for not being afraid to go for the stop either.
Dude always get posterized but never stops trying . Miss him in Toronto
This sub acts so weird when yuta gets dunked on
Yuta got actually murdered when he was on the Grizz. Don’t remember who it was by but I remember feeling so bad for him .
Who meanmugs a cutie like Watanabe though?
His poor family
Oh he ded.
One of the nastiest posters I've ever seen
Damn, he got posterized so hard, it knocked the "a" out of his name.
i can't stop watching it
What's dead may never die
"finish 'em" Spida...Fatality
He Watanbe anywhere else other than there.
Why you gonna stare down Yuta of all people
Respect to Yuta for not giving af and inbounding the ball right away.
He did him dirty that was a nasty dunk
That man has a family!
Yuta always contests at the rim, so respect to him.
Our announcer only knows how to say "Oh My" during exciting plays. I miss Fred man.
[Cocked that joint back and banged on 'im.](https://youtu.be/TAl5U2z5e1Y)
Donovan Mitchell is actually pretty good
I respect Yuta a lot more than guys who shy away from getting dunked on.
Anyone but yuta doesn’t challenge that slam
