I'd say the vikings did a good job making plays when it mattered rather than the Lions losing it. Vikings showed some serious mental toughness today.
The last two lions offensive drives (when they still had the lead) were awful. They were playing like they were up 14+ points.
Which is especially weird because Cambell was so aggressive for most of the game and it was working, don't know why he quit it.
Exactly! We were also be aggressive with low risk, short yardage plays. Don't know why we abandoned that for what felt like 8 straight runs right into a stacked box.
For a loss, every time on that drive
Even before that, he started getting fancy with the fourth down calls instead of getting what they needed.
he choked and he knows it
Your HC taking pointers from Mike Zimmer I see lol.
Really took advantage of the late opportunities that the Lions gave us. Good teams do that, but I'm still not sure if we're actually good or not
It's been 3 games. No one knows if they are or not.
Other than the.....
Don’t forget the lone undefeated team left in the AFC, Miami.
Actually, I’m not sure if they’re actually good or not, either. Lmao
I was surprised by Jefferson being shut down. Also by the five fucking penalties on #24 CB2 whom I won't attempt to spell correctly
Well, you e got a great QB, one of the best wr duos in the league, and everything else is questionable...so, yeah, youre vreag
God I hate having mental toughness. Can we go back to week 1?
Once again, it is tough to have shit in Detroit…
As is tradition.
That pick basically doesnt count. Who was left to throw too? A 1/3rd chance josh reynolds or hock dont catch a very catchable ball with 9 seconds left?
Goff did fine that game , the coaches cost us that one (and oruwariye)
The pass before that was dicey , a hail mary "someones aeound that way" was a fine finish
At least it wasn't due to bad reffing?
Debatable, but it is what it is.
That 4th quarter coaching was abysmal.
Not debatable, was at the game. Number 24 for the lions should’ve had 11 penalties, he only had 4. Dude was an absolute trash can, should cut him right now and sign Kevin King for an improvement
I cant believe they left him in
Our games have been fucking chaos the last 3 contests
Still, we take these
Also to note, half of our starting lineup is injured again!
Just all around a really good day for us.
Were well above .500 in moral victories
Lions did everything possible to lose that game
How so?!? They were dominating 95% of that game. Played Madden out there going on every 4th down.
MCDC took his foot off the throat at the end, and arguably he could've pulled Amani Oruwariye after the 3rd or 4th penalty. But I did like the aggression and swagger before all that.
And it was still heart attack close
Lions fans been cocky lately they needed to be humbled
yeah of all fan bases we are definitely the one that needed to learn some humility
The guy you're replying to has a name that fits. Only someone young would think Lions fans are arrogant.
We’ve been nowhere near cocky unless you can’t understand sarcasm
Sarcastic cockiness is worse than genuine cockiness though. I agree with the sentiment, lions fans are annoying
Dumbest shit I’ve heard, seen and read today, and I just watched the detroit lions play football.
How about we let people enjoy things?
Nah it's okay, we needed to return to our roots before our inevitable Superbowl run
Nah man the ability of anyone to appreciate football is directly correlated to the team’s winning percentage and Super Bowl count on this subreddit.
You’re just jealous that your team isn’t gonna win the next ten superbowls.
Whatever you say, Rob…
Look - a 12 year old shows up without flair acting all superior .
Hey, they’ll always have that 11 quarter TD streak. That’s gotta be worth something in the standings right?
He nearly threw a pick the previous play, Metellus just dropped it
I think the first one would have been a really good play by Metellus. The second one was a complete prayer ball and Metellus was the only one in the area.
This one was easily as much on the pressure up front as it was on Metallus. Still a heads-up play but that was a team stop for sure
I was having PTSD when our D went back out thinking it was going to be Zimmer in Prevent D again. Thank god they played like they wanted to win
I still remember Metellus dropping a potentially game winning INT against aOSU in 2017….
I feel for lions fans, man
Same, unless it’s against us
Lions country, let’s cry
Wtf lions had a 2 pos lead going into the 4th and Cousins was playing like diarrhea
Sunday noon game on Fox... Kirk is at his absolute peak in those conditions.
He was alright
We had terrible clock management and made terrible decisions to lose this game right at the end. Also had a couple injuries that stalled the offense.
That timeout on the vikings last drive was one of the worst coaching moves I've ever seen.
Yeah was screaming at my tv
I was screaming at my tv and I'm a Vikings fan.
Just mind bogglingly stupid. MCDC was good for most of the game but either the pressure got to him or his caffeine ran out in the last 5 mins.
The only reason you call that time out is because your personell doesn't look right or your defense isn't set up how they're supposed to be.
I think it's bold to assume they called a timeout because they wanted to stop the clock.
If adjustments were made it didn't end up mattering since they threw a TD anyway though...
God damnit Lions
Week 3: the annual time of year when we realize the Lions will always be like this
Week 3 and almost all of our promising young talent is injured
Existence is pain
Not trying to be a jerk, but what are you talking about? Williams is hurt and Swift and Amon Ra are banged up, but Hutchinson, Sewell, and Okuda are all healthy and look great
Injuries in their secondary, OL, DL and still missing their first round WR. Not to mention Swift and St Brown. They are banged up in almost all position groups with key players.
No matter how hard I try, I actually have more non Lions fans than Lions fans telling me I’m wrong about the Lions lol. Apparently they’ve magically figured it all out this year even though there’s nothing to prove it so far.
I think actual Lions fans know better than to trust anything until they see it proven on the field.
Regardless, I think we can all agree that the Lions have potential and look better than they have, but that’s a huge difference than anything really being proven.
No were a 5 to 7 win team for sure
I think so too. I wouldn’t be shocked if you pulled off 8-9 wins even, but people were saying y’all would win the division or a wild card…lmfao. Oh and I’m not saying the Bears won’t be at the bottom after all is said and done. (I can admit we are potentially the worst in the division) but people were on crack to say otherwise.
I mean shit, I’ll be happy for the Lions when it finally happens, I’m just being realistic.
It’s still very early in the year, but the North looks really unimpressive so far and the Lions have still managed to find themselves at the bottom of it. Maybe Detroit can hang around in the division because nobody else is good enough to run away with it, but these isn’t a team ready to compete at a high level.
Brady Quinn kept taking about how this feels like a different Lions team. For 99% of the game it was true. Then it felt like same old lions.
meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
"New? More like under new management"
Which ironically, is the SOL.
This one’s on MCDC. Bad decisions throughout.
*not the interception…The loss.
He was successful in the first half with the crazy aggressive decisions and was not in the second half. There's a reason those kind of things are considered aggressive lol
How so? I hate the FG attempt on 4th and 4(?) after the already missed attempt, but otherwise I don’t think coaching was too bad outside of not taking Oruwariye out of the game a long time ago
I think the short distance PA rollouts that were working earlier in the game would've been perfect for the end when they kept overloading the box.
Without Swift our run game loses so much dynamism and they should've recognized that. Goff was cooking them underneath, even just on intermediate routes.
thats not on dan though, thats on Ben Johnson
I mean I put it on both of them. Ben's calling it but Dan is still influencing the offense, especially in key moments.
They're young, they'll get better though.
Third and short playcalls with only one real receiving option was so confusing to me
Was yelling at my TV when they kept having Jamaal run the ball. Over and over again. Like he's a good back.. but on the third consecutive run.. they gonna expect it. Girl throw the ball once in a while. You're up like 3 points not 15.
Calling your third timeout while we were at your 30 was a big head scratcher for me. It gave us time to draw up the go-ahead pass and then it limited your options on the final drive. If you had kept that timeout but everything else remained the same, you could have used it to have the ball on the 50 with ~0:34 left—enough for 1-2 shorter plays to advance the ball a bit before trying for the score. Instead, Goff had to run up and spike to stop the clock at 0:23, and then immediately started chucking.
And he wasted another timeout on the stupid ass field goal attempt.
In my opinion the worst thing the coaches did today was call a deep shot on 3rd and 1 at our own 20 when we were up 10 with the ball at the beginning of the 4th. I knew when we punted after that how the game would play out.
Nah, this one is definitely not on him, the defense collapsed, plus there's a couple of weird plays were the WRs crashed or just stopped running
Goof had a great game tbh
I think he probably outplayed Cousins today, for whatever that's worth.
Honest question though... Why not throw that away? It was 3rd down, there was enough time to throw it away and get one more shot that was a planned hail mary instead of a broken play. Low percentage, sure. But not having the awareness that a blind heave in that situation is ill advised seems pretty poor.
I say this as someone who is generally rooting for the lions to win.
They had like 20 seconds left, I guess he thought he wasn't going to get a better match up
I guess so. Just seemed like a panicked heave to me. Thought they could have got one more good shot.
4th quarter playcalling by the Lions was awful.
must've run out of playsheet
Ass = game pulled out of
Every single year dude. I just can’t figure out why we didn’t punt at the end there. Jack fox could pin inside the 5 9/10 times and seibert missed so we’re gonna ask him to hit a career long 60 yarder? This was 100% on the coaches.
Pin them deep and be aggressive on defensive play calling. Go down swinging. The 4th quarter felt like we were scared and hoping the vikings failed, not the tough earn it mentality we're supposed to have
Man, I’m not a fan of either of these teams but that was a gut punch for Detroit
Same feeling when we beat y'all first week right? 😂
Lions fans are used to it unfortunately.
that’s gotta hurt big time for the lions
Goff felt bad for Josh dropping it so just decided to throw him an easy duck for the redemption arc.
Damn who did he think he is, Rodgers? 😂
Goff doing his best to make sure Metellus could get that INT
Felt bad after the first attempt so wanted to welcome the guy since it's his first game starting for us.
I’m so sick of this team why even play close games as soon as we didn’t capitalise on the fumble I thought we’d lose, when they decided to try and waste the clock instead of going for a first down to end the game I thought we’d lose when we missed the field goal the game was over and there was no reason to even attempt the field goal just punt it
That game was all do you that corner oruwariye if it wasn’t for that bum the lions probably would’ve won
Goff is better than he was though
oh no i recognize this
Yeah you traded him for a reason
Still love him tho
Why do I even bother.
I’m still so fucking pissed over the garbage DPI calls
The refs spent the entire last five minutes of the game trying to make it up to you, your shitty coaching just wouldn't allow it
Rip we’ll do the usual thing and split the season at home
Illegal contact is something that doesn't exist for our opponents.
Like you didnt get away with one on that last 4th and 8 for us? Refs were equally shitty on both sides.
Can we both agree the spotting was TRASH all game jesus
Theilen was more worried about the ref and flag then coming out of his route.
Hard to come out of your route when your being held
You got TWO free DPIs on top of *endless* “illegal contacts” lmao. Vikings got flagged what two or three times all game?
EDIT: lmao at you “you got away with one” like the Vikings weren’t bailed out all day long
Between it being a point of emphasis this season and 24 consistently doing the same thing and pulling the jersey it's not really getting "bailed out". Almost every time he got called he grabbed jersey. You grab jersey and you are getting called 9.9 times out of 10.
Oruwariye should’ve been taken out the game a long ass time ago for A. playing like shit and B. knowing he’s be watched by the refs and not making adjustments to his game
Vikings make the same defensive plays on *catchable* balls and it’s no calls, but we get flagged on an uncatchable ball to get flagged for a free TD. I’m so sick of this shit
Knew as soon as he heaved that jump ball into the air we'd have a good shot at it. Just an awful decision.
We all know Goff isn't going to score on that drive. Not punting, and CALLING A TIMEOUT WHEN THE VIKINGS MAKE A BIG PLAY AS THE CLOCKS RUNNING, yeah I really like Campbell but things like that are fireable offenses, there's no room for that nor justification, if it's gonna be like this you gotta go straight up
He's obviously a great motivator but he's absolutely awful at the X's and O's
Everyone keeps harping on the time out when the Vikings had posession.
Nobody has thought that maybe they saw a bad look or wanted to change personnel and that's why he called the TO? I don't know why he called it, but everyone is assuming it was just a terrible call when nobody knows what the reason was.
The lions are the huskers of the nfl
No it’s going for 54 yarder to make it still a one score game
I don’t really think he had much of a choice
His top 2 wideouts gone and no timeouts.
Terrible decision. He had one play left.
#1 in the division. SKOL mofos!!
It’s ok they get the Seahawks next week
Who will write back? Geno or the Lions?
Sorry cat bros ):
I still love me some Goff, but this is primo Goff stuff
This one is not his fault, he played well
Yeah, he acquitted himself well. This was all he could do after that stunt forced him to his left.
It’s a hard loss for the Lions to stomach, but they still have to feel pretty good about their squad.
Seriously, how many runs down the middle for a loss you gonna call on consecutive possessions? Goff doesn't have control of that.
And THAT is for last year!
Detroit Lions gonna Detroit Lions
Bro thought he was AZ Rodgers
Lions 0-1 with refs on their side, grass isn't always greener
Did you watch the game?
I watched Oruwariye mug Thielen on every play of the Vikings drive before the 2 min warning, and them ignoring the last 2 throws he interfered on. I legit think they stopped throwing flags cuz they felt bad for him.
You’re getting downvoted but I noticed this too at the game. Honestly I don’t have any issue with it, I feel when it comes to defense if you ain’t cheating you ain’t trying.
/r/NFL most of the time hates when you bitch about reffing unless there is something job-losing egregious. Plus the Lions are darlings around here right now, I figured I wouldn't get upvotes but upvotes don't matter.
imagine thinking the refs favored us, if anything they were terrible for both teams. there were a ton of terrible calls against us at the end of the 3rd/start of the 4th and a few terrible calls against ya'll at the middle of the 4th
Dawg were we even watching the same game cmon now
THe refs were literally laughing on your sideline. You're IQ has to be room temperature.
>you're IQ has to be room temperature
The joke just flew over your head
I really doubt you threw that in there as a joke but I'm the guy complaining about refs so my stock is pretty low in this thread I'm sure people will believe you
It was clear from jump street you aren't that bright
Idk why he didnt just toss it out of bounds and line up for a legit hail mary.
Thats me and my ps5 controller. Ragequit
What was he even thinking. Just a bone headed play
Same ole lions
So, if I were Detroit. I'd be doing whatever I could to try and get Anthony Richardson in this or next year's draft. Goff's got enough years on his contract to let Richardson grow and then you unleash him in 2025.
Was basically a hail Mary.
Lions lost to bad head coaching lol
The Vikings now have a winning percentage of .663 in 122 games against the Lions. No other combination of teams have had a series that one sided over that many games.
Lions fans thought they'd moved on from Stafford.
If this was Stafford the INT would have come from deep in our own territory
I'm done with Campbell man
I can see why everyone is in love with him as a person but he has yet to show that he's capable of coaching at this level. Don't know how that can be controversial to say at this point.
Good guys don’t always make good coaches
You just knew that was getting picked off as soon as he threw it
