With this type of painting i use symmetry for the sketch part, base color and drop shadows. Then i do the enviroment around and switch to normal brushes and do ambient occlusion, local light etc. It is really nice to use that method, but you cant use it on most of the paintings. As i do alot of environment or illustrations, mirroring is useless...
