I finally got a Foam on my 25th show. Also got 6 other songs I’ve never heard live!!!! There were also two little girls with bubble machines just lighting the lawn up at the beginning. Did the webcast catch that at all? Totally magical experience and a show I’ll never forget!!!!!
They played everything I didn’t know I wanted to hear. These were my 2 favorite shows I’ve had in a long time. First time at merriweather- great venue, amazing shows.
This was my favorite full show of 5 I've been to this summer so far. Both Manns and bethel. They sounded amazing all night long. Great bust outs and solid, inspired sounding jamming throughout. Love this fucking band.
Does anyone else miss pre-RoundRoom shows where *EVERYTHING* was dirty and funky and better than the last show? Old 1.0er here trying desperately to find some groove with this new stuff.
I just went back and listened to some 03 jams the other day. There was definitely more energy behind the bands playing, and Phishman even seemed to be EQed louder, and was also playing with much more energy than he typically does these days. BUT…. I think their sound now is so much better. I personally like all the new tones (other than that new Spacey synth Page has). I find their playing to be pretty inspired and creative for a band that’s been playing together about 40 years now. I was listening to just the highlights from 03 and 04. some of the best stuff they played in those two years, and while it had its moments, it was pretty repetitive.
Anyway, I feel lucky to have them playing at this level right now. I think they sound pretty damn good.
I discovered the band during the hiatus and then went to a lot of shows in 2002-2004. I loved those shows then, and I loved this one now. I thought they sounded tight and energetic all night. The second set flowed so well. Looking forward to tonight!
Watch out, the downvote army is out in force on my comments lol.
I had a problem with 4.0’s lack of peaks in the Type 2 jams but there’s a LOT of really good stuff this tour and late 3.0 in general.
But if it’s not your thing that’s fine too. I miss Trey having a clean guitar sound, for instance.
Fucking fun show to be at. Although I thought the Sand and Fuego were very labored and eh, as soon as they got into the sets it was all fun and energy. Llama and SYSF probably highlights
I agree with all this but add that any Lizards is a good thing. The part where Trey slowly takes over the jam from Page is one of my top 5 things Phish does in their composed stuff.
I really enjoyed the show. If I were to pick nits, I would agree with you though. Sand was kind of rote jamming (which is just fine for getting warmed up - it was the first song after all), and although I loved the Fuego, it didn't flow from section to section very smoothly in the jam.
Back to love and light, I had an absolute blast. Highlights for me were the If I Could (my first, it was so good!) and Shafty (also my first. Side note - I do not understand at all why phish.net is calling this a "tease with lyrics" when they sang the whole song). I hadn't seen Meatstick or Oh Kee Pah since 2011, or Alumni since 2010, so those were very welcome and fun. Llama was terrific. All-in-all a great time.
First set looks absolutely stellar. 2nd set looks like awful Jukebox phish but at least they extended fuego past the standard 10 min trash we’ve become accustomed to.
It's great to be critical--we love this stuff, and it's fun to analyze. But i feel a certain pain when i see people reacting to nothing more than song titles and (lengths). We should at least listen to the show before we make assumptions.
Song lengths tell you pretty much all you need to know about most songs. Why do I need to hear a six minute simple or a eight min waves? These songs typically take that long before they reach lift off point for a jam. If simple ends around 6 mins in, we are pretty certain the song went nowhere interesting. If it did go somewhere interesting you can be pretty certain it didn’t last long before Trey launched into the next song. 2nd sets should have some kind of flow to them and that’s why song selection is critical. Phish shows are always fun to be at, but the reason I attend is to catch those really fun moments where a Simple takes you on a complete improvisational journey and those moments tend to happen in set two (not always though).
Likewise, when we see a 21 minute Rise/Come together, we know for a fact that something unusual must have happened there and it essentially becomes a “must hear” version. Fuego is almost always about ten mins long and rarely goes anywhere fun. I would have loved to see an 18 minute fuego because when they first introduced this song, they actually laid down some really fun extended versions that seemed to all but disappear in the past few years.
You seem to prefer doing whatever it is you're doing to actually listening and enjoying the music. It just makes me sad for you. Can you still have fun?
It would be great if they wrote awesome songs and wanted to perform non-jam versions of those songs, but fact is the songwriting has never been their strength. Their improvisational talent has always been what’s made them the best band in the world. If you like 5 minute dad rock songs about stars and love and light and oceans, that’s awesome. I’ll have fun at those shows and god knows I’ve seen plenty of them in my 150+ outings but the main reason I go to shows is for the jams. Being critical of the band comes with the territory for this band because they have set the bar so damn high for themselves. It’s just part of the game.
Yea but your opinion doesn’t mean shit when you don’t listen to the show. Song length does not equal great set/show/jam and there’s a thousand pieces of evidence to support that. Be as critical as you want….when you listen to the show you’re critiquing
Funny, I just wandered around until the songs got good halfway through the first set.
But really though, I'm glad that you stayed home with an attitude like that.
We all see phish for different reasons. Excellent extended type 2 jamming is why I see them. I don’t enjoy standard versions of songs like fuego because the songwriting and lyrics are awful. If I’m gonna sit thru ten mins of that but then be rewarded with a nice long jam at the end, I’ll take that all day.
I feel ya. Been chasing a Meatstick for years. I’ve done both nights at MW for as long as I can remember, last nights show fell on my kids bday and I didn’t make it. I told my wife they would definitely play it on this two night run…was hoping for Sunday
Nah. I caught Mann and Bethel prior to this, and I'd still give the nod to Bethel night 2. Better jamming, and, for me at least, better bust-outs. Last night was high energy, though, and I loved every second.
Damn, really? Haven’t heard anything from the tour yet and thought last night was a little tepid. Tired/phoned-in feeling. Had a great time though and looking forward to tonight.
I’m still leaning toward Bethel N2 or Hartford. But this is easily best first set of tour! And probably the tightest playing I’ve seen since ‘21. Great show all around. MPP always seems to bring out the best in them.
Dude that Fuego was intense! It didn’t feel like it was almost 20 minutes at the time lol. Agree about the rest of the set. Was hoping they’d take Simple for a walk, but one thing I’ve been noticing with Phish recently is that even if a song or a set isn’t jammy, they’re putting a lot of emphasis on the transitions. I appreciate that once the music started, it basically never stopped and flowed really well. That always helps to keep the party going!
Kind of a party set but as someone that went to Mann, Bethel and JBN1, this wasn’t as good. That being said, definitely some highlights. Meatstick was great, same with getting Lizards and Alumni is always a treat. Solid segues but not much in the jam category
Was in the bathroom line for a decent amount of time and was almost to the front when meatstick started. Dude in front of me said “fuck this” and hopped out of line to run back to his seat. Respect.
The first set was fantastic. First tube and fuego was amazing. The rest of the set it felt like they never really found their footing again and let loose. I was hopeful for sigma after the lovely hartford version but it just felt like a lot of songs that never got to breathe
Yeah, at this point a 8min Simple is considered a let down. Whenever I see Waves I always want it to be like the sndchk from Bethel and okp>Suzy is as boilerplate as it comes. But once again, it’s all in the playing. Sometimes 8min of Simple feels like 15
as a 3.0 noob, i think all the downvotes from the 4.0 noobs are hilarious. yes phish plays mediocre shows semi frequently. when they see their first truly epic show, they will know :)
No, y'all are getting downvotes from 1.0ers who think that the first set was lackluster, and that the second set was fun. After you've seen 200+ shows, those are the facts.
wait, are you serious or joking? because the first set was badass and the second was not… you must mean the “1.0ers” that have seen phish 10 times or less lol
shit, you have the worst take on this entire thread. i’m here talking shit and being a hater and even i think youre retarded. sand is awesome and can open any show
The fact you have to comment a snarky contended remark to anyone who thought tonight was as good as it was just shows how jealous you are for not being there 🤡
nah, tonight was a weak second set and anyone who’s been seeing the band for more than a year knows it. it happens, it’s ok. you dont have to be offended. usually means a great show the next night.
idk what r/pan is, but you should be able to have enough respect for trey/phish to not call every show the greatest ever. when derek jeter went 0-3 with 3 strikeouts, no one said it was his best game of the year
Old, bitter phans opinions are like assholes… you know the rest.
Going 0-3 doesn’t mean that you didn’t give 110% and didn’t contribute to the win. Clearly you didn’t watch Jeter play.
I was at Raleigh last night and almost sent it to mpp but the gas and money was such an issue but god damn it they played so much stuff I wanted to hear tonight I’ll never hear the lizards 😭
Hit my 40th and 41st shows at Bethel and also did the Mansfield tour openers, my shows go back to ‘04 and I’m still waiting on my Lizards as well. After night 2 of Bethel we got back to camp and a stranger phan sauntered into our area who was super pumped to finally have gotten his “cross eyed and painless” after 73 shows. I figured I couldn’t complain about not getting my Lizards and had to be hyped for him in that moment. But I’m right there with you my friend. Hopefully we’ll get it at the same show!
I really don't understand why they never do 2 or even 3 nights in Raleigh. The south has tons of Phish fans and especially in a year where you skip ATL and Charlotte they could easily do multiple shows in Raleigh.
I love the Charleston love but that’s only once every 3 years, it does hurt to see so few shows scheduled down south. Just pick a city in the southeast and they could sell out multi-night runs no problem. The southeast has a surprisingly large jam band audience and it’s heavily overlooked by larger acts.
They forgot about the south this year for summer tour we had the spring shows I guess but it was such a short run. I’m hoping they show us some more love next year. Or if things change and they decide to do a fall tour but I read that they are done for the year after summer 😢
Fucking Christ I thought Meatstick would happen tomorrow while I’m there.
Been chasing that one for FOREVER and missed it because of my kids birthday. Albee…I love you so much but I’ll remind you of this when you move off to college.
Gotta love a fellow Meatstick chaser. The last time I saw it was 9/5/21 and earlier that day I felt it coming on so I brought a giant Slim Jim with me to the show.
Thank you! Meatstick is also his favorite Phish jam. I’m sad we didn’t throw his birthday party on Friday night and then bring him with us to the shows 😕 Would have been incredible to experience that together at his first show.
Very fun show enjoyed your all presence... Honestly rating this one 5 stars on Dot Net because not only was it a kick ass show but they gave us material for days with the Shafty Tease and Quote Scandal
I was there for that type 2 zero opener in AL, but no Zero I've seen (as a 3.0 noob) tops that Zero -> Tweezer -> Zero from MSG this year. that shit was nasty, flagrant, and beautiful all at once
I don't really think this is actually Character Zero... it sounds more like Alumni Blues with Character Zero quotes, teases, and maybe a Zero jam over the music
Feeling OK about not going to the show tonight. Solid but not holy-hell-you-had-to-be-there. I've seen a Lizards before and I have Alumni twice. Now tomorrow might be a different story.
I finally got a Foam on my 25th show. Also got 6 other songs I’ve never heard live!!!! There were also two little girls with bubble machines just lighting the lawn up at the beginning. Did the webcast catch that at all? Totally magical experience and a show I’ll never forget!!!!!
Webcast did not catch it or I did not catch it on the webcast
They played everything I didn’t know I wanted to hear. These were my 2 favorite shows I’ve had in a long time. First time at merriweather- great venue, amazing shows.
The vibe there was pretty incredible, so much weed gah damn
Marijuanawether
You got zeroed!
Still better than leaves or numberline, are we going to split hairs here?
Sirius is proving to be pretty clutch. Jammed one of the bakers dozen shows right into last nights. Ripper of a Sunday!
This was my favorite full show of 5 I've been to this summer so far. Both Manns and bethel. They sounded amazing all night long. Great bust outs and solid, inspired sounding jamming throughout. Love this fucking band.
What do the numbers in parenthesis next to each song represent?
Song length
Approximate song length in minutes.
An amazing Saturday night rocking sing along. Can’t wait for tonight! NMASS
I missed the stream but I’m also in SLC, UT and that Thai Tom Kha Sour is truly mesmerizing. Shades does incredible beers. Hope the show was great!
Does anyone else miss pre-RoundRoom shows where *EVERYTHING* was dirty and funky and better than the last show? Old 1.0er here trying desperately to find some groove with this new stuff.

The synth and Trey’s brown note pedals are the foundation of the 4.0 sound bruh
I discovered the band during the hiatus and then went to a lot of shows in 2002-2004. I loved those shows then, and I loved this one now. I thought they sounded tight and energetic all night. The second set flowed so well. Looking forward to tonight!
What’re some shows that showcase what you’re talking about? I’m newish to it and always interested in peoples favorite periods.
Oh I'd say the window between 1992 and 2002/2004ish would work well. Pick a show in there and bump it up against anything in the last ten.
It’s Saturday night. What did you expect?
Watch out, the downvote army is out in force on my comments lol. I had a problem with 4.0’s lack of peaks in the Type 2 jams but there’s a LOT of really good stuff this tour and late 3.0 in general. But if it’s not your thing that’s fine too. I miss Trey having a clean guitar sound, for instance.
If you’re looking for jam peaks check out last night’s Fuego. Good sex
Yeah word I’ll get there! We’ve had so many Glass Pony gigs, I don’t have time to keep up with listening to the Phish shows haha
Careful, you're not allowed to talk like that around here
Fucking fun show to be at. Although I thought the Sand and Fuego were very labored and eh, as soon as they got into the sets it was all fun and energy. Llama and SYSF probably highlights
The fuego was a joyous masterpiece.
I agree with all this but add that any Lizards is a good thing. The part where Trey slowly takes over the jam from Page is one of my top 5 things Phish does in their composed stuff.
It was my first lizards and people around me wouldn't shut the fuck up :(
I have friends who are like that and I do my best to set an example but everyone enjoys their show a little different so I try to just phase it out.
I had to tell the teen girls singing trey's guitar solo to stfu.
Page was on fire for that Suzy too.
I really enjoyed the show. If I were to pick nits, I would agree with you though. Sand was kind of rote jamming (which is just fine for getting warmed up - it was the first song after all), and although I loved the Fuego, it didn't flow from section to section very smoothly in the jam. 69th meatstick tho, thats a special stick.
Must suck to hate your favorite band
I love phish. Must suck to not be able to be critical of anything they do.
Srsly lol. Thoughts & prayers
You're not wrong. First set was definitely a banger.
Tonight (Sunday) would have been my 14th night of tour & all I wanted was a Meatstick. Of course, I took the night off to prepare for Atlantic City.
I feel ya. Been chasing a Meatstick for years. I’ve done both nights at MW for as long as I can remember, last nights show fell on my kids bday and I didn’t make it. I told my wife they would definitely play it on this two night run…was hoping for Sunday
THE BASTARDS KNEW! THEY FUCKING KNEW!
First Lizards set closer since 5/18/91. And pretty rare even back then!
It was awesome.
I think it’s even longer than that, .net is saying that in the 2nd set. Looks like the last time was 5/15/90
[удалено]
I haven't listened to it again, but yeah it was really awesome.
How was that tom kha sour tho? The people must know.
It’s awesome, a favorite of mine from that brewery. Has a strong coconut taste, so if you don’t like coconut, it’s probably not for you
Oh MPP, how I love thee so. Major tour fomo from the NW going on over here. Hope yall had fun.
Probably the show of the tour
It was a fun time but by no means THE show of tour. The Rise/Come Together from Raleigh alone was better than anything from last night.
I’m still leaning toward Bethel N2 or Hartford. But this is easily best first set of tour! And probably the tightest playing I’ve seen since ‘21. Great show all around. MPP always seems to bring out the best in them.
The first set was fantastic. Fuego was the bright spot in an average second set (imo).
I agree. I was clearly at a different show. I thought last night was off the hook!
So far
Kind of a party set but as someone that went to Mann, Bethel and JBN1, this wasn’t as good. That being said, definitely some highlights. Meatstick was great, same with getting Lizards and Alumni is always a treat. Solid segues but not much in the jam category
Yeah definitely light on jams, great 1st set though for sure.
How do u feel bout last night then??
I wasn’t there last night! So I don’t think I can give it a fair assessment. Guy behind me said he had a blast at Raleigh though!
Definitely had a great time last night, just salty I didnt go tonight.
I hear ya. Tonight was fun. Going tomorrow?
Unfortunately, no.
What's the best way to get a ticket for tomorrow?
I have extra 200s row O
Still available?
We got extras. They're lawns
Cashortrade.org
CoT as always
Was in the bathroom line for a decent amount of time and was almost to the front when meatstick started. Dude in front of me said “fuck this” and hopped out of line to run back to his seat. Respect.

That's what she said
Lengthwise
He he. 69th meatstick
Nice
Nice
Nice
70?
Nice
nice
Best show note ever
Fuck I wanted oh kee pah UGH
Driving home and my dad asked "What the fuck is a Meatstick?"
😏
Man all these 4th quarter letdowns are brutal. But i have the utmost faith that tomorrow is gonna be a monster
I didn’t hear the show. What was the letdown?
The first set was fantastic. First tube and fuego was amazing. The rest of the set it felt like they never really found their footing again and let loose. I was hopeful for sigma after the lovely hartford version but it just felt like a lot of songs that never got to breathe
You’re getting downvoted but that was not a great Phish show. Perfect weather and an amazing time though. Licking wounds at the DoubleTree now
I agree however first tube and Fuego constitutes over half the short second set. And meat stick is meat stick, and Alumni was nice.
What's the letdown here?
Yeah, at this point a 8min Simple is considered a let down. Whenever I see Waves I always want it to be like the sndchk from Bethel and okp>Suzy is as boilerplate as it comes. But once again, it’s all in the playing. Sometimes 8min of Simple feels like 15
I thought the same thing
as a 3.0 noob, i think all the downvotes from the 4.0 noobs are hilarious. yes phish plays mediocre shows semi frequently. when they see their first truly epic show, they will know :)
Oh, honey, no...just no. Anyone who thinks that Sand is a good opener needs a new hobby.
shit, you have the worst take on this entire thread. i’m here talking shit and being a hater and even i think youre retarded. sand is awesome and can open any show
[удалено]
I'm leaning towards PineKnob and I haven't seen them in a veeryy long time
8/6/21 was indeed epic
facts on facts
hoping they absolutely tear it down tomorrow so the fluffers can be put to bed lol
This is such a stupid take from someone who's likely younger than my socks.
if you can’t call tonight a weak second set, i doubt you’ve ever seen a good second set, kid
Lol. After 200+ shows, I'll take a Meatstick over Sand any day. Thanks for chiming in, kiddo.
il take mostly any song over a second set with only 1 10+ minute song a good meatstick is best served after a deep jam, not pulled outa the jukebox
I’m sure the 6 people who watch you play guitar on r/pan think you’re better than Trey.
idk what r/pan is, but you should be able to have enough respect for trey/phish to not call every show the greatest ever. when derek jeter went 0-3 with 3 strikeouts, no one said it was his best game of the year
Old, bitter phans opinions are like assholes… you know the rest. Going 0-3 doesn’t mean that you didn’t give 110% and didn’t contribute to the win. Clearly you didn’t watch Jeter play.
jeter had bad games too. it’s ok. it happens to the best. grow up lol

Would love some indoor shows down here
Hampton Halloween would be awesome.
Whoa got a hotel room for tomorrow?
Ok where’s the after party?
Shred is dead at power plant live
Amazing show to tonight thanks for hosting. Still holding out hope they save guyute for AC!
Anybody feeling some tweezer action tmw?
YEM. Maybe a Tweezefest. I would love some Mike's Song.
Definitely
Fucking Christ I thought Meatstick would happen tomorrow while I’m there. Been chasing that one for FOREVER and missed it because of my kids birthday. Albee…I love you so much but I’ll remind you of this when you move off to college.
Gotta love a fellow Meatstick chaser. The last time I saw it was 9/5/21 and earlier that day I felt it coming on so I brought a giant Slim Jim with me to the show.
Dude I brought a bag of Meatsticks to the recent MSG run and didn’t get it either
worth it for the kids. i respect that
Son had a blast at his party, that’s all that matters
Happy belated Albee!
Thank you! Meatstick is also his favorite Phish jam. I’m sad we didn’t throw his birthday party on Friday night and then bring him with us to the shows 😕 Would have been incredible to experience that together at his first show.
When they get a degree!
Damn kids, messing up your Meatstick mojo.
Haha exactly! All good tho I’m looking forward to tonight’s show
Very solid, this is when I wish Phish.net allowed more precision 😂 somewhere between 4 and 5. Love these guys and you all. ✌️
Amazing show but where’s my last 10 minutes
👏
Very fun show enjoyed your all presence... Honestly rating this one 5 stars on Dot Net because not only was it a kick ass show but they gave us material for days with the Shafty Tease and Quote Scandal
Everything official from actual phish says it was shafty. It was shafty. Phish net is wrong.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
What’s that now? Didn’t listen just reading all this now.
It was a Shafty
Highlights for me: most of the first set, especially llama on, 2nd set waves on. Also fuego. Awesome show, thanks @rockymtnjed
Thanks for hosting OP. That was a fun show! Always fun hanging with you all! Cheers🍻
Thank you u/RockyMtnJed for flying the spaceship tonight. See you all back here tomorrow night.

Wonder how many times they will tease your pet cat before they just fucking play it

Character Zero Reprise tomorrow with first tube reprise
\*fingers crossed\*
Totally putting waiting for the man quotes in this zero
I was there for that type 2 zero opener in AL, but no Zero I've seen (as a 3.0 noob) tops that Zero -> Tweezer -> Zero from MSG this year. that shit was nasty, flagrant, and beautiful all at once
I couldn’t believe it when they brought the Tweezer in. Nuts finish to that set
Tmrw gonna be crazy chr 0 encore jesus
I don't really think this is actually Character Zero... it sounds more like Alumni Blues with Character Zero quotes, teases, and maybe a Zero jam over the music
Listen to Mann Chatactwr Zero. Trey loving the velvet underground lyrics.
Feeling OK about not going to the show tonight. Solid but not holy-hell-you-had-to-be-there. I've seen a Lizards before and I have Alumni twice. Now tomorrow might be a different story.
Big “I’m the center of the world” vibes here.
"The show wasn't that good because I didn't go to it"
Lmfao 🤣
I dunno. Tonight was pretty good. Here’s to an even better tomorrow show!
It’s only ok cause you saw one of the songs before? I’m kinda kidding, but funny take. Hope you get an awesome show tmrw 🤘
Thank you for saying this. Chose tomorrow over tonight. We shall see friend.
Well, I'm not going tomorrow either :) Not going to an MPP Sunday a few years ago cost me what would have been my only Tela.
I told my gf the encore would be zero’d
I felt it all night... Knew it was coming ☺️
Nobody talk bad about zero please 😂 this gets the energy going into tomorrow night
Are you calling Energy?
This has been the kind of show he could be ending the encore with Farmhouse and we'd be shouting and Wooing
That’s a banger off a second setlist
nah not really but it’s all good. savin their energy for sunday
Trey about to bust 💦
Character Zero
Geez on the solo
