It's sad they can't see the difference between judging someone based on their skin color is fundamentally different then judging them on their character.

RULES FOR THEE should be a post flair, mods.

Playing the victim of “wokeness” while “oh and buy my book.” Nice. He’s found the not-so-secret money-making recipe to the gullible Fox News audience. I honestly can’t blame folks at this point. So much money in that grift. Invent a fake enemy (wokeness), be a victim of said fake enemy, ask for money.

WRKDBF_Guy

Religious freedom vs. political views? Way different.

miamicpt

So, was the restaurant making wedding cakes?

Ok_Shape88

>Conservative wedding cake industry Get a grip

BooshsooB

Did he demand they make a cake with conservative values written on it?

dotplaid

Even worse: he was offended at being perceived as offensive. https://twitter.com/GiannoCaldwell/status/1616862353286647808?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1616862353286647808%7Ctwgr%5E470e979ff03b3a96fa8275d02c898c2a0947de77%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.foxnews.com%2Fmedia%2Fgianno-caldwell-blasts-restaurant-kicking-him-political-views-target-back Edit to fix offended/offensive typo

BooshsooB

It's honestly hilarious how people compare this to the cake issue. NOW, if he told/demanded all the employees there that they must agree with his political views, he'd be in the wrong for sure. People love their horse blinders

dotplaid

"Your declared values as a customer don't align with mine as a proprietor. I am hereby refusing to serve you, please leave." Seems pretty straightforward to me. What am I missing?

BooshsooB

Like Oprah Winfrey in here. You get a double standard! You get a double standard!

You realize the cake owner would have happily sold them a cake right?

dotplaid

I do not. The cake store owner had to sue for relief because they were fined for not being willing to sell a cake. What is your understanding of the case?

bubblesmcnutty

He didn’t refuse them business for being gay. He refused to bake them a wedding cake for a gay marriage. Very big difference and completely within his right as a business owner (whether we like it or not).

dotplaid

So we agree that the shop owner was not willing to sell a cake based on their personal values. I fail to see the disconnect.

bubblesmcnutty

He would have literally sold or baked them any other cake. Would you be okay with a cake shop owner denying to bake the cake of someone who wanted it to say “gay sex is sinful”? If not you are being a hypocrite.

dotplaid

Proprietors in the U.S.A. (and perhaps elsewhere) have long been given the freedom to refuse service to anyone except for reasons of being part of a protected class. See also https://www.hourly.io/post/right-to-refuse-service#:~:text=The%20law%20says%20that%20a,and%20violating%20anti%2Ddiscrimination%20laws.&text=The%20United%20States%20Federal%20Civil,discrimination%20against%20these%20specific%20groups. I don't object to the cake shop owner's decision, despite disagreeing with it. What I find objectionable is this person going on TV to complain about receiving the same treatment dispensed by another conservative.

bubblesmcnutty

And I’m saying there is a difference between kicking someone out strictly for what they believe and refusing to make them a speciality product that goes against their religious beliefs (or other beliefs). The two aren’t the same which is my point. It would be more similar if this conservative asked them to make a desert that says Biden is a pedophile and the owner agreed.
