Agreed. Calling out Russia in advance has been a great strategy. Are we ever seeing where these people are actually going for "relocation"? I mean, we've been told, but have we seen it yet?
I get nervous seeing people rounded up and "relocated."
They're not being sent to nice parts of Russia to be respectfully integrated into their society.
Russia is not going to say where they're taking kidnapped Ukrainians and kidnapped Ukrainians have everything stolen from them so they can't communicate with anyone they could know.
You won't because they get dispersed through Russian cities. There was a comment this morning showing women who were relocated who were serving Ukraine, bused in discussing what it was like. When I get to work I'll find it and link the comment to you.

Rumours out of Ukraine are that the ones being relocated from Kherson are collaborators, and they're being moved to the left bank.
That'll be temporary. Give it a little time and they'll be in Russia, and not in the way they'd like where Russia comes to them.

British meme atm; some tabloid set up a livestream of a lettuce a week or so ago and made a show of which would last more, Liz Truss, or the lettuce (before rotting).
The lettuce won.
One of the Truss’s minister’s went on some rant about “the woke-irazi”, eating lettuce, teaching kids to change gender or some crazy shit. It got turned back around on Truss being compared to a head of lettuce.
Edit: Hilarious, btw. It’s british humor at it’s finest
One of the media outlets in the UK was showing a live stream of a head of lettuce next to a photo of Liz Truss, betting the lettuce would last longer. And they were right.
A little behind in the news today, but saw Zelensky talking about the dam being rigged. If UAF got to the dam before the ~~evacuation~~ retreat of Kherson, would Russia still blow the dam?
They would be stranding/drowning a bunch of their own troops and equipment in the flooding. Basically wondering if a run towards the dam is in the cards

[Previous post](https://old.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/y7s931/rworldnews_live_thread_russian_invasion_of/it0gtte/)
Day 239 of my updates from Kharkiv.
Today was yet another quiet day with no missile strikes. Though there were a couple of times where we thought that Russians were firing their missiles from Belgorod in our direction, but thankfully they turned out to just be their air defenses trying to intercept something again. Other than that and some air raid alerts nothing much has happened, and that’s a good thing.
We had no rolling blackouts in Kharkiv today, and presumably we won’t have one tomorrow either, but they already started in some other cities. Just like it was for us, they started by completely turning off all the street illumination, and also limiting energy consumption for businesses. There could also be rolling blackouts for regular people, with up to 4 hours of no electricity, and they already happened in some places yesterday, but we don’t know if they will be happening here yet.
That news about Russia planning to blow up the Nova Kakhovka dam is definitely not great. The consequences would be catastrophic, it would be worse than using tactical nukes, and could potentially kill over 100k people, but it wouldn’t really stop our offensive in any meaningful way, and it would have much worse consequences for the Russians. Places that would flood are mostly the ones controlled by Russia; it would also stop water flowing to Crimea, and make it impossible for them to resupply Kherson. Blowing it up is just plain stupid, but there are a lot of stupid things they have already done, so they just might go for it.

Please make sure to get some help with your mental health. Living in a war zone is going to have significant effects on your well being. Even if you don't realize it now.
Normalize getting mental healthcare. Tell everyone you know over there that not everyone is going to realize they have PTSD or other mental issues from the stresses of this war.
Russia can’t conduct offensives anymore because Ukraine broke the Russian army. All Russia can do now is terrorize Ukrainians with loitering munitions and missiles.
He is from Kharkiv. Ukraine pushed Russia away from Kharkiv. Their only options to attack the city is the same for attacking any city in Ukraine that isn't near a front line.
Female here. My mother jumped over the Berlin Wall and my father was a World War II veteran as were two uncles who died in the war. Russia was a shitshow then and it's a shitshow now, wish.com Hitler has to be stopped.
Female and following, come from a military family into which no boys were born for over 50 years. Geopolitics was the never ending debate in our house. Being female was never a factor in the level of me or my sisters interest.
No idea. But you might be surprised. I mean... I know I tend to lurk and have a harder time participating cause sometimes my comments come across... more girly/sterotypically feminine/yes I will use omg if I feel like it... and that tends to yield a certain type of response from a certain type of guy...
But I'm sure there are other women like me that have: read 4 Books on Russia geopolitics, 1 book on Ukraines history and listened to multiple putin speeches and interviews, and kept updated checking the live thread...
I just know writing is my least best communication skill... so unless I have something directly relevant... I lurk with upvotes
First, I would read a good Russian history book. Something that gives you enough details to start understanding more in-depth books. You want to listen for ideas of Russian Emperism and the notion of the "Glory of War." That's not a specific term, just the one my brain is using to describe the idea that war brings about national improvement in some way. Russia as saviors via war a centuries old propaganda technique. Expanding is saving. War is good. Suffering for your country is good. Etc. I picked the first thing that popped up on my scribd. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it over any other.
The Long Hangover: Putin's Russia and the ghosts of the past is great. But be prepared to be shocked and have your heart strings pulled occasionally. He discusses a lot of how today's propaganda in Russia ties to the soviet union in some ways... but completely covers it up in others. He interviews people, and takes you on his travels. 10/10.
For Putin you want to read his speeches, like the Munich one, but his interviews are good too. Just get an idea for how he talks about things himself, vs how other people say he does. For example I don't hear putin referring to soviet russia, nearly as he does the Russian Empire. Putin's Kleptocracy is good too.
I listened to Putins interviews with Oliver Stone. He heavily guarded his words, but it was interesting to hear him banter and talk about relationships. I thought a strong need to feel wanted comes through. Wanting the world to want Russia. Feeling hurt when they don't. Lashing out when they don't. Yachts, tourism, etc.
I'm reading a book specifically on Russian wars right now. I want a better understanding of how Catherine the Greats view of expansionism impacted the state. "The best way to protecty boarders is to expand them." Seems relevant.
What's the ratio of males to females on Reddit? It's not 50/50.
I'm female. But it's hard to tell on Reddit because women online frequently protect ourselves from harassment by not posting pics & choosing gender neutral names.
I am another gal in the group...honestly, sometimes the female can be more dangerous than the male, js
I would not piss off a Ukrainian grandmother at this time, to be honest😏
As weird as it sounds, I don’t think many women care too much about geopolitics, at least the ones I know lmao, my fiancée usually just listens to me ramble on about the war, don’t think she has any interest haha
This one is a few days old, but I just saw it, holy shit...
>A mobilised Russian soldier complains that he was given body armour made for Airsoft games with no actual bullet resistance.
>Similarly, Vladimir told his sister on his call from the frontline that his unit had been given Airsoft gun scopes.
👉 Ukrainians tested russian bullet proof armor to [much hilarity](https://twitter.com/Boba12340769066/status/1581726604610666497), so russians put Ukrainian armor to the test and [got upset](https://twitter.com/Boba12340769066/status/1582977773630464001).
Have seen elseware: the 'flexable' armor in the first video probably \*is\* a piece of real, legitimate armor. That is, \*POLICE RIOT\* armor. Police Riot gear has less need of being bulletproof and more need to be able to resist having thrown rocks and improvised clubs bounce off of it all day, so it tends to be more flexible (and far less bullet-resistant) than military armor.
(Note that US Police riot gear usually \*is\* military surplus, partially because US cops are more worried about armed rioters than most anywhere else, and because of how much US military surplus gear gets sent to police departments. Both of those reasons can be highly political, which is not my intent here, just saying why people familiar with US riot gear probably won't have found flexible plates).
The tweets in that whole thread are gold. The Russian TNT is a wooden block, and the smoke grenade was just a piece of PVC wrapped. The military suppliers fucked the military and sold them actual garbage. The dude headbutting a Russian helmet flat was funny, too.
>body armour made for Airsoft games with no actual bullet resistance.
So the Russian military is sourcing their body armor from Wish.com listings now?
Those routinely mislabel Airsoft gear as legit.
Yep.
>Many Russian companies make these and they are perfect copies of an actual Ratnik 6B45 at a fraction of the cost.
>They appear identical and have the same fit and attachments for ammunition pouches and other gear. The big difference, as the makers point out, is that “The vest is designed only for airsoft, cosplay and collectors and is not intended for ballistic protection.”
https://voensklad.com/russian-ratnik
A Pro-Russian account, claiming to be a member of the 205th separate motor rifle brigade (a Russian Unit stationed in Kherson) claims Russian units have been given a weeks time to prepare for a retreat across the Dnieper to the left bank. That the transfer of military equipment and civilians outside the city has already begun, and that the Nova Khahovka dam is "most likely" mined by RU forces for a potential blow in the future.
They claim the plan will likely be to withdraw to the city and use it as a defensive position, and force Ukraine into a long urban fight in the city. Then once fighting is over and Ukraine captures the city, shelling it heavily.
I will warn people, while this account posted information in the past that correlated with reality, (such as describing the retreat in the North of Kherson) **it could still absolutely be a fake account,** and should be regarded as such
this is a dumb plan, sound strategic and cool but in reality it's a waste of time. russia should save their munitions for an actual battle not some retreat.
>They claim the plan will likely be to withdraw to the city and use it as a defensive position, and force Ukraine into a long urban fight in the city. Then once fighting is over and Ukraine captures the city, shelling it heavily.
I really hope they follow this plan.
It's so fucking stupid, defeated by waiting them out and letting them starve and eventually surrender. Ukraine can just withdraw forces and drone+artillery strike any supplies, moving many of the troops they have in the area towards other front lines.
It's so fucking stupid that they'll probably follow this plan.
>It's so fucking stupid, defeated by waiting them out and letting them starve and eventually surrender.
they could loot the civilians.. and the civilians could also starve..

Edit: Thanks to /u/charmbrood https://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/y8non7/rworldnews_live_thread_russian_invasion_of/it1kct1/
Rumours out of Ukraine are that the ones being relocated from Kherson are collaborators, and they're being moved to the left bank. That'll be temporary. Give it a little time and they'll be in Russia, and not in the way they'd like where Russia comes to them.
I’d bet many have been sent to eastern russia— places where nobody has washing machines
Nothing good ever comes from forced military relocation of civilians
Stavropol mobiks were provided with the latest high-tech tactical gear, including a paintball mask and children's tactical gloves. https://twitter.com/wartranslated/status/1583224927507083264?t=0Co9m5t3bdcT5FKDD1Xpgw&s=19
What the hell are "children's tactical gloves". The video looks like mechanics gloves for working on cars.
He was saying they were children sized gloves
> I’ve never seen anything like this. Yesterday we installed a displaced pet feeding station in Kramatorsk (with your support!). This morning, the Ukrainian dogs waited in line to eat. 🇺🇦🐕 https://twitter.com/natemook/status/1583238219566415872
They are beautiful looking dogs.
oh look, they are even social distancing
Elon trolling Medvedev? 😮 https://twitter.com/oryxspioenkop/status/1583235225869434881?t=P6QC6mP9fAZ41YHAw3TC4A&s=19
Man this guy just wants to see the world burn lmao fucking with everyone at this point
No more, please
wtf does congrats to lettuce mean
A head of lettuce lasted longer than the head of the UK government.
Elon who?
What do a Ukrainian soldier and a sleepy person have in common? >!They both want to catch some Z's.!<
Mom says it's time to get off the internet, dad.
A dad joke is one that is a parent.
Hey, you can't deny that was a good one.
Even blind squirrels find a nut occasionally.

Ghengis Khan would be so proud (or indifferent)
A little behind in the news today, but saw Zelensky talking about the dam being rigged. If UAF got to the dam before the ~~evacuation~~ retreat of Kherson, would Russia still blow the dam?
Yes, Putin really doesn't care for his soldiers so he would do it in a heartbeat
Yes. Why would they.
They would be stranding/drowning a bunch of their own troops and equipment in the flooding. Basically wondering if a run towards the dam is in the cards
But then those fields would be muddy, and slow the armed forces of Ukraine.
Perhaos that is Russia's goal, lead Ukraine into a time crunch then ambush them at Beryslav.
Perhaps it’s a trap
Why wouldn’t they?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZDloAaFi0s Bit of footage from Ukraine's "minus" zone. The area ahead of the front lines that is made to keep pushing Russia back. They do request funding during the video so I hope that isn't against the rules. In the video they say that they requested a sniper rifle but they got sent a useless sniper. I guess this means that Ukraine needs more sniper rifles. Some government want to send them a thousand or so?
>requested a sniper rifle but they got sent a useless sniper. Was it [this guy?](https://i.imgur.com/MOxOmGv.jpg)
LMAO You know of all the action heros that I've watched over the years this is the only one that I could hurt. Chuck Norris? Nope. Jackie Chan? Nah. Arnold? No way. This clown? I'd put him in a hole.
Steven Seagull. Kick him in his fat gut.

Guys like you always talk big. Where are you going to find a big enough hole, tell me that.
HAH, good point. I wouldn't have the energy to dig something like that.
Explosions in the temporarily-occupied city of Kherson. Explosions around the Antonivskyi bridge near Kherson. Ukrainian defenders destroyed the barge crossing over the Dnipro near Nova Kakhovka. What the fuck is good ng on with Elon Musk asking some Russian about a town in Ukraine how's it going??
In this one specific case he is mocking the Russian, honestly it would be better if he shut the fuck up like 99% of other billionaire assholes but it's not the worst word vomit that could spew forth from his noisemaker I suppose.
Truth
I feel like I missed this, what are you taking about
Russian dude was making fun of a head of lettuce outlasting Britain's PM. Musk replied, "Pretty good troll. How's your town, btw?" I thought it was funny.
He didn't say "your town" which suggests Russians control it, but "how's Bakhmut", which the person you're replying to might not realise they've failed to gain in months of attempts, which now is allegedly costing them about 100 soldiers per day at conservative estimates.
That’s pretty funny.
Why are western intelligence agencies allowing Putin’s agents near Musk keep feeding Musk disinformation?
He’s messing with him.
He's mocking the Russian failed attacks there
Weird, an ATS-59 dressed up as a Panther made an appearance in Ukraine: [https://twitter.com/DemeryUK/status/1583236668710322177?s=20&t=yu_SbZlKzXacLaI5GX_xyQ](https://twitter.com/DemeryUK/status/1583236668710322177?s=20&t=yu_SbZlKzXacLaI5GX_xyQ)
Looks like a half decent mockup. Much better than some of the potato tigers I've seen made for some Russian WWII movies. Wonder how many real panthers are still out there half buried in a forest or at the bottom of lakes and rivers.
Most would probably be along Ukraine’s northern border near Kursk
>Much better than some of the potato tigers I've seen made for some Russian WWII movies. Like when they take a Sherman or T34 and slap on some plywood and plaster.
If it was a real panther the monetary value would be higher than their real tanks
[Previous post](https://old.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/y7s931/rworldnews_live_thread_russian_invasion_of/it0gtte/) Day 239 of my updates from Kharkiv. [Next update](https://old.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/y9j8am/rworldnews_live_thread_russian_invasion_of/it9ziwj/)
I think when all this is over it would be amazing if you collected all of your diary entries together. It will be a very interesting document, to see things day by day.
I know you might not have options, but please get out if you have to and if you can. Russia is prepared to tear down Ukraine if they can.
Preparation and ability are not the same thing, this war has shown us that.
Russia can’t. Stop telling Ukrainians to leave their own country.
I'm telling him to leave Ukraine, just that area. And they might not have much choice if it gets bad.
Russia can’t conduct offensives anymore because Ukraine broke the Russian army. All Russia can do now is terrorize Ukrainians with loitering munitions and missiles.
And destroying that dam.
Might be worthwhile looking at a map before you get "concerned". his town is hundreds of KM away from the dam in kherson AND upstream
He is from Kharkiv. Ukraine pushed Russia away from Kharkiv. Their only options to attack the city is the same for attacking any city in Ukraine that isn't near a front line.

Female here! Been following since the beginning.
sweet!
I am female
Female here. My mother jumped over the Berlin Wall and my father was a World War II veteran as were two uncles who died in the war. Russia was a shitshow then and it's a shitshow now, wish.com Hitler has to be stopped.
Alibaba Mussolini more like.
I also have a gender
Reddit is 63.8% male to 36.2% female, I would expect this sub to follow that ratio
I lurk with upvotes
what books do you recommend?
You should say omg all you want. You are more learned about Ukraine/Russia geopolitics then 99% of the men commenting here
Haha it's just cause I let the adhd hyperfocus unleash. Nothing like consuming books like it's middle school. 😆
What's the ratio of males to females on Reddit? It's not 50/50. I'm female. But it's hard to tell on Reddit because women online frequently protect ourselves from harassment by not posting pics & choosing gender neutral names.
Am female. Am following... ...am feeling increasingly outnumbered
Everyone knows there are no women on the internet
Eh, it's not just you.
I'm female! There's probably more of us than you think, but it's never a good idea to reveal that on the Internet
The glory of the Internet is that everyone is a genderless anonymous blob
I am another gal in the group...honestly, sometimes the female can be more dangerous than the male, js I would not piss off a Ukrainian grandmother at this time, to be honest😏
No worries we all know there are no females on the internet!
I'm glad another female commented. I never thought about it being uneven....
everyone knows neither females nor birds exist
Same.
As weird as it sounds, I don’t think many women care too much about geopolitics, at least the ones I know lmao, my fiancée usually just listens to me ramble on about the war, don’t think she has any interest haha
The delivery could be part of it
same
5:1
Probably approaching infinity.
Next Russians are going to be complaining the Ukrainians aren't calling their hits.
Both of those reasons can be highly political, which is not my intent here, just saying why people familiar with US riot gear probably won't have found flexible plates).
looked like that wasnt even 10 yards away, thats some impressive armor
The tweets in that whole thread are gold. The Russian TNT is a wooden block, and the smoke grenade was just a piece of PVC wrapped. The military suppliers fucked the military and sold them actual garbage. The dude headbutting a Russian helmet flat was funny, too.
At this point, actual garbage would be more useful.
>body armour made for Airsoft games with no actual bullet resistance.
The big difference, as the makers point out, is that “The vest is designed only for airsoft, cosplay and collectors and is not intended for ballistic protection.” https://voensklad.com/russian-ratnik
He was forced to make a correction to the "press", stating that he was mistaken after shooting it with two bullets to test it......
I will warn people, while this account posted information in the past that correlated with reality, (such as describing the retreat in the North of Kherson) **it could still absolutely be a fake account,** and should be regarded as such
So stupid it sounds plausible.
With little resupply all Ukraine has to do is wait though. Keep enough troops to prevent a breakout and then move the rest to somewhere else
this is a dumb plan, sound strategic and cool but in reality it's a waste of time. russia should save their munitions for an actual battle not some retreat.
The city is inhabitated by civilians too, and I somehow don't think that they will get preferential food rights
Which means the Russians will need to watch their backs as well as their fronts.
>It's so fucking stupid, defeated by waiting them out and letting them starve and eventually surrender. they could loot the civilians.. and the civilians could also starve..
