This wonderfully fun, well-recorded and absolutely hilarious collection from a session in 1968 after the making of their first album is a delight. It is especially interesting if you have a penchant for the very earliest beginnings of progressive rock and it was during this period lyricist Peter Sinfield and multi-instrumentalist Ian McDonald began working with the boys, later transforming into the legenary King Crimson. Some tracks such as 'Why Don't You Just Drop In' and 'Digging My Lawn' are shameless 1960s pop but others are sweet-sounding and carefully constructed like 'Under the Sky' with Judy Dyble's lovely soprano and McDonald's jazzy flute, the psycho- symphonic 'Murder', and the gorgeous arrangements and Beach Boys harmonies of 'Wonderland'.

Giles Wemmbley-Hogg Goes Off - Series 1


This is the excellent first series of Marcus Brigstocke's spoof travelogue presented by a dim but endearing upper middle class toff, hailing from Budleigh Salterton and on a sabbatical from his degree in 'Canadian Studies'. Giles manages to cause offence and chaos wherever he goes, all the time remaining blissfully ignorant as to the consequences of his actions.


Anyone who has downloaded my original (now deleted) torrent of this series may wish to get this one instead. That torrent contained an error, episode 1-05 was actually the 'Russia' episode from series 3. This has been corrected in this upload and the overall quality of the other files is considerably improved. My suspicion is that these are CD rips but I didn't encode them myself so have marked them as coming from an unknown source.

The show follows the travel adventures of title character Giles Wemmbley-Hogg ("Two Ms, two Gs"), a nice but somewhat dim upper-class ex-public school boy (Charterhouse School) played by co-writer Brigstocke. Giles is on a gap year before university, and he records his (mis)adventures with his portable digital recorder, in places such as Bolivia, India, and Egypt. Throughout the series he does somehow graduate, albeit with a 2:2 in Canadian Studies.
